Commentary

That is that as far as this game is concerned. It was a day marred by inclement weather at Dresden but the last game ensured the end was one worth riding home about! WOW! Take a moment to gather your breath folks! This is as tantalizing a contest as it could have got! And to think that we nearly didn't see the run chase commence owing to bad weather but I guess even the weather Gods were keen on witnessing this humdinger of a contest!

With the second innings reduced to a 5-over chase and a 63-run target ahead of them, Britannia CC decided to promote Vishal Panjwani up the order. While he took a while to get himself in, the fall of skipper Rohit Singh seemed to spell doom over the side's possibility of chasing down the target. However, Faisal Qasim took matters into his hands as he and Panjwani plundered 22 off a Nagapratap Mahanandhi over to restore parity in the contest.

That was when Berlin's star performer Nick Kraiger got into the act and delivered what was, in hindsight, the most decisive over of the contest. Apart from conceding a miserly 5 runs, the wicket of Faisal Qasim which Kraiger accounted for clearly went a long way in tilting the scales back in favor of Britannia CC, even as Panjwani cut loose with a couple of powerful strokes to bring the equation down to 15 needed off the last over.

A six and a missed stumping chance seemed to indicate a transfer of pressure towards the bowling team. However, that extra big hit which Britannia so desperately needed to seal the game in their contest never came as Karan Singh held his nerve to pull off a stunning victory for Berlin, consolidating their position atop the points table.

The bowling display from Berlin CC was mighty impressive for a good part of it, with Rohit Singh, Nick Kraiger and Karan Singh each sending down an impressive over. It wasn't to be for Nagapratap Mahanandhi and Imran Bukhari who were lackadaisical with their radar but luckily for Berlin, it did not come back to bite them hard. The contest though, was set up by a whirlwind 23-ball 64 from Rohit Grover in the game's first essay and how crucial was that in laying the foundation for Berlin to pull off an astonishing victory!

Take a bow Karan Singh! He has held his nerve admirably well in that final over to ensure that Berlin CC get over the line. Heartbreak for Vishal Panjwani who fails to get bat on ball off that final delivery and he chucks his bat in despair. In the end, Berlin CC prevail by 5 runs via the DLS method!

4.6 Karan Singh to Vishal Panjwani, HUGE APPEAL FOR LBW AND GIVEN!! OHH MY WORD!! Tossed on the full and straight in line of the stumps. Vishal decides to have this away across the line, swings hard nad misses. The ball thuds onto his front pad plumb in front of the stumps and the umpire raises the dreaded finger!!

4.4 Karan Singh to Vishal Panjwani, DRAMA!! Tossed on the full and outside off, Vishal gets down and tries to slog sweep this but gets the inside half of the bat as the ball rolls back towards the keeper. The ball defects off the keeper towards off-side and the batters take off for a single. The keeper collects the ball and does take a shy at the stumps but the batters had made it home. Down to 7 runs needed in 2 now!!

Dear oh dear! The keeper has made a meal out of what was an easy stumping chance. Despite no runs coming off that delivery, will that missed chance come back to bite Berlin CC?

4.3 Karan Singh to Vishal Panjwani, OHH!! MY MY!! GOLD DUST!! Tossed on the full and outside off, Vishal comes down the track and tries to slog this away but misses. The keeper can't gather the ball and misses the stumping chance. Still 8 runs needed in 3!!

WOAH! That is an outrageously long hit and Panjwani has applied the pressure back on the bowling side. The six also brings up 50 for Britannia CC and the equation now reads 8 runs needed off 4 deliveries!

4.2 Karan Singh to Vishal Panjwani, IN THE AIR....AND GONE OVER THE ROPES!! Tossed on the short, Vishal waits and decides to pull this away but gets the top edge which flies away over fine leg for a maximum. Down to 8 needed in 4 now!!
