Thank you for joining me, Mohul Bhowmick for this exciting game in the Women’s Big Bash League. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did bringing it to you. Until next time, goodbye!
Darcie Brown | Player of the Match: They have got some pretty big hitters and it's always good to have support from the other hand. I have been working on the back of the hand slower ball for the last 3-4 years, still a lot of work to do, just wait and see. We have a lot of fun, we are pretty relaxed and we don't rely on one bowler. Someone steps up always. Bit of an airhead, don't take myself seriously, don't know what Katey Martin is on about me. Yeah used to do that travelling to training from Adelaide on my phone and love it [on her obsession with Rubik's Cubes].
Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by 31 runs. Laura Wolvaardt 46 (40) | Megan Schutt 4/11 Katie Mack 35 (26) | Darcie Brown 4/16
The Strikers played out a one-sided game here. The Heat could not compete at all, and this will hurt them tremendously. The fact that they shied away from the challenges thrown at them will rankle deep within their camp. Coach Ashley Noffke, who was brought on to speak midway through the game, will be deeply unhappy with his wards.
Their batters will have to question themselves and look in the mirror to see where they can improve their performance. Skipper Jess Jonassen, who shone with the ball, could not really guide her side to victory. Amelia Kerr and Charli Knott’s innings gave the Heat some hope but in the end, it was not enough.
The Australian internationals of the Strikers, led by Megan Schutt and captain Tahlia McGrath, showed the way and gave their junior players the faith that this game was there to be won. They will take a lot of confidence from this all-round performance of theirs. The likes of Georgia Redmayne, Grace Harris and Laura Harris of the Brisbane Heat will be hoping to do better in their next dig.
16.3 Megan Schutt to Jess Jonassen, OUT! The fight from the Heat is over. It's a low full-toss on the stumps, swung straight to deep mid-wicket who hangs on and brings the game to a close. Schutt finishes with four and the Strikers end the Heat's unbeaten four game run
Jess Jonassen c Katie Mack b Megan Schutt 5 (7b 0*4 0*6)
16.3 Megan Schutt to Lucy Hamilton, this time it's drilled straight to long-off
16.2 Megan Schutt to Lucy Hamilton, good shot. Past a packed off-side field, the fielder from cover runs back to save a run
16.1 Megan Schutt to Jess Jonassen, full and just outside off, Jonassen misses the carve, the keeper does not take it and a bye taken
Megan Schutt (3-0-7-3) is back.
Well, Hamilton and Jonassen are batting for time here. This game isn't ending as early as the Strikers thought it would.
