That's it from this game then. Hope you enjoyed our live coverage. CSK have reached their eight final! The only years they missed out were 2009 and 2014 (2016, 2017 - they were not a part of the IPL). It's the fourth time they will face MI in the final! That should be a cracker as both teams eye their fourth IPL title. Join us for that big final on Sunday! Until then, it's goodbye and good night!
Faf du Plessis [Man of the Match]: We didn't have the best run in the last 5 or 6 games. But we do have a lot of confidence who have won a lot of big games. We played our best cricket in a bigger game. The previous game which was two nights ago the wicket was really good. We were expecting the wicket to be nice upfront. But it was not the same wicket. In a small chase, you don't want to be too slow. You are trying to make sure you are trying to get ahead of the rate. Watson did thank me and said, 'thank you for looking after me'. Hopefully, in the next game, we can find the rhythm right from ball one.
MS Dhoni: It's a usual route, last year was an exception. Overall, it was a very good effort. I think that's what the 7:30 start does. It is always a bit tacky at the start and I feel, our spinners got more turn. We kept getting wickets at the right time. It's important to get the openers out but I feel all wickets are important and their timing is important. The crucial part was getting wickets consistently. Credit needs to go to them [Harbhajan and Tahir]. Experience counts but they have to put in the hard yards to be fit for 45-50 days of the season. I would've preferred the openers to score a bit more runs.
Shreyas Iyer: We didn't get as many runs as expected. We had a disappointing start as we lost two wickets in the powerplay. We expected the same especially coming from Delhi as the wicket played quite similar. But none of the batsmen took initiative to take the team through. Really disappointed with the efforts. It's a good learning for us. It's something to think about but you can't really complain about the wickets. The wickets in Delhi has uneven bounce but yeah, I have nothing to say. Really proud of the way the boys played. It's been a dream season for us and it's just the start. It's time to grow now from here.
After scoring just 147, Delhi needed to be right on the money from the first ball. However, they fluffed a big and an easy chance [yes, that runout chance] in the very first over. The new-ball bowlers bowled well but once Faf got his eye in, he switched gears to pull the momentum back in CSK's favour. Faf's energy rubbed off on Watson as well who finally got some runs and struck his second fifty of the season. The openers had set up the chase and not a lot was required to be done and the middle-order polished off the chase. The Delhi bowlers didn't look at their best and they also paid the price for being sloppy in the field.
Bravo finishes it off with a boundary and Delhi's dream has come to a screeching halt. CSK book their place in the final for the 8th time in the history of the IPL.
Over 19 CSK: 151/4(RR 7.95) Bowler: I Sharma Summary: . 2 . W 1 4 |
18.6 FOUR! Ishant Sharma to Dwayne Bravo. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot glancing, well timed past fine leg for 4 runs.
Oh dear, everyone was waiting for a Dhoni finish but that's an anti-climatic end to Dhoni's innings. He hits the pull shot well but picks the man out in the deep to perfection.
18.5 Ishant Sharma to Ambati Rayudu. Short, outside off stump moves in front pulling, to mid wicket for 1 run, shy attempt by Shaw.
18.4 OUT! Caught. Ishant Sharma to MS Dhoni. Back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Paul.
18.3 Ishant Sharma to MS Dhoni. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to extra cover for no runs, fielded by Iyer.
18.2 Ishant Sharma to MS Dhoni. Full toss, to leg down the track driving, in the air under control to long on for 2 runs, run save by Munro, fielded by Boult.
18.1 Ishant Sharma to MS Dhoni. Length ball, outside off stump on the back foot driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Pant.
4 needed now. A typical MSD six to finish things here?
Over 18 CSK: 144/3(RR 8.00) Bowler: K Paul Summary: 1lb 4 . . 4 . |
17.6 Keemo Paul to Ambati Rayudu. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot Steer, to point for no runs, fielded by Shaw.
Short and wide and Rayudu thumps it for four. Just 4 needed now.
17.5 FOUR! Keemo Paul to Ambati Rayudu. Short, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, well timed past deep backward point for 4 runs.
It's just too easy for CSK at the moment.
17.4 Keemo Paul to Ambati Rayudu. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump moves in front pulling, hit body to silly point for no runs, fielded by Paul.
17.3 Keemo Paul to Ambati Rayudu. Short, outside off stump moves in front Leave, Left to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Pant.
17.2 FOUR! Keemo Paul to Ambati Rayudu. Length ball, off stump on the front foot working, well timed past fine leg for 4 runs.
17.1 Keemo Paul to MS Dhoni. Length ball, middle stump on the front foot working, hit pad to fine leg for 1 run, fielded by Boult.
CSK are doing it quite easily here. The DC players are just going through the motions.
Over 17 CSK: 135/3(RR 7.94) Bowler: T Boult Summary: 1 . 4 2 1 . |
16.6 Trent Boult to Ambati Rayudu. Length ball, down leg side on the front foot defending, back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Boult.
16.5 Trent Boult to MS Dhoni. Short, down leg side on the back foot pulling, to fine leg for 1 run, fielded by Sharma.
16.4 Trent Boult to MS Dhoni. Half volley, down leg side on the back foot flick, to fine leg for 2 runs, fielded by Sharma.
And the CSK skipper is away with a boundary.
