So that's that for this weekend. It's getting a lot clearer now as far as the top four is concerned but hey, this is the IPL and we know things can turn around within the blink of an eye alright! Tomorrow's contest shouldn't have a direct bearing on that though, with Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders locking horns at this very venue in Navi Mumbai. A clinical performance by the Super Kings, led by that man Devon Conway again. He's here to stay with this franchise, you'd think. A number of positives for the team tonight and speaking of positive, their net run-rate has entered that territory as well. But as their skipper said, it's about taking it one game at a time and enjoying the game. That nothing to lose approach might just make them a dangerous outfit in these remaining three games and the next of those is one we're all looking forward to with bated breath - Round 2 of the El Clasico against Mumbai Indians on Thursday (May 12) at the Wankhede Stadium. As for DC, this loss is sure to put a massive dent into their confidence. Their playoff hopes aren't done by any stretch but for a side that has failed to win two on the bounce, they now have to win all three of their remaining fixtures to make it. And the first of those is against the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday (May 11) at this very venue.

Devon Conway is the Player of the Match for his sublime 49-ball 87.

Hear from the man himself: The whole process was just about keeping it simple like I've done over the last three games. It was about communicating the same to Rutu and executing the same game plan. (On his chat with Mike Hussey prior to the game) It was just routine, looking at how the surface was. It was just getting that final clarity and taking it forward. I was just glad to get that partnership with Rutu at the top. Chuffed with the way he's batting too and it makes my job a lot easier. That's my brand - I've just got to be true to myself. The way I approach it is to try and be positive upfront and then assess the situation. (On playing the sweep and stepping out to spin) I've got to give credit to MS tonight actually because in the last game I got out playing the sweep. He told me that they'll look to bowl straight and so I could look to step down the track. That's what I tried to do.

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): I think it (the margin) really helps. We should have done better - we should have got something like this slightly early. But it's still never too late. I think we had a perfect game today. The batters did really well. This was a toss where you wanted to field first but the heart says you don't mind losing the toss. In the last game as well it got slower. The batters gave us the extra few runs after the way the openers batted and the others contributed. Overall very happy since we made sure the big hitters didn't go after us. I personally feel both Simarjeet and Mukesh have taken time to mature but it's different with every individual. What is good to see is that they have the capability. The more they play, the batter they'll get at game sense. And I feel game sense is very important. Ultimately it's about what is a good delivery to bowl and what is not good to bowl. I feel in T20s it's important to know what not to bowl. (On his cameo) The first ball was to see what the wicket was like. It's something I don't like, going after it from the first ball. If it's the 13th or 14th over you can push it down the ground but if it's towards the end you have to go for it. That's something we haven't done really well this season. If you get a 2-ball 6 or 8, accumulating all of that really gives you runs on the board. One at a time is good enough. I'm not a big fan of maths - I wasn't good at it in school either (grins). Just turn up for your game well, execute your plan and enjoy the game. You don't want to turn up and feel the pressure. What's important is to make the most of the remaining three games and see what works out for next year. If you qualify for the playoffs, fair enough, if not it's not the end of the world.

Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals Captain): I think they outplayed us in all the departments. It (a big defeat) was supposed to happen because we have already played a lot of close matches. Against one of the other teams there had to be a big difference (in margin) when you lose. It didn't come for a long time. We still have 3 games and if we win those we should qualify. There is a bit going on due to COVID and some stomach infection as well. But we're not making any excuses - we want to give our 100 percent and win. The only thing we can do now is to be more positive. That's the only thing we will talk to the boys to be more positive and make good decisions in the next few matches.

Moeen Ali: Any win is great for us. To win against a very good side, the confidence goes up. I think it was a good score. At one point, it looked like 210-215, but we knew it is a good score with the spin coming into play. The guys played really well. Sometimes after 10-15 overs you try to get too many and you fall short. The boys played well today. I hurt my ankles and had to change my action. It worked well I guess. We have an amazing fanbase. The CSK fanbase is unbelievable.

How does the time machine feel like, CSK fans? This was vintage Chennai Super Kings. From start to finish, it was domination all the way through by MS Dhoni and Co. 208 was a big score the bowlers had to play with of course and with the pitch turning, it played into their hands.

That said, early wickets were still the need of the hour, given that they had no Ravindra Jadeja to fall back on either. And Simarjeet Singh stepped up to rush the batters in the Powerplay. Hitting that hard length on a consistent basis, he got the better of KS Bharat before Maheesh Theekshana ensured David Warner's blitz was a short-lived one.

Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant kept the chase on track though with a flurry of boundaries but thereafter, the track just went missing. Simply put, it was an implosion of epic proportions by the Capitals. Marsh slogged Moeen Ali down the throat of long on before Pant dragged one onto his stumps attempting a cut.

And thereafter, they came and went. One after another. It was a procession alright! The Capitals were blown out of the water and even the mounting asking rate didn't spark a revival from either of their batters. Due credit must be given to the CSK attack though, with Moeen nailing his lengths to perfection while Mukesh Choudhary did his bit as well.

In the end, but for a couple of flamboyant shots from Shardul Thakur, it was just a case of the inevitable being delayed. A thumping victory for the defending champions sees them keep their campaign alive. Only just though, with a number of results needing to go their way but the kind of season they've had, they'll take this rather gleefully.
