It was a terrific chase at the Kotla. The Delhi bowlers had no answers to the questions posed by Dhawan and Williamson, and as a result, have learnt of their fate in the tournament three matches in advance. A record partnership pipped a memorable century tonight. May be more such surprises are in store for tomorrow's clash between Rajsthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Do catch us tomorrow for the match at Jaipur. Goodbye and good night for today.
The Man of the Match, Shikhar Dhawan: "Gabbar was always there [laughs]! Yep, he's back. Rishabh played an amazing knock, the way he started against the turning ball, just took the game away form us. But we had belief that if we went in with a positive mindset, we could do it and things went our way. I've played lots of cricket here, know the pitch well and that was the advantage today. Glad I scored 91, looking forward to scoring more runs for the team. When Kane came in, there wasn't much of a chat. We were just doing our job, I was in my flow and he had been doing well all tournament."
Kane Williamson, after leading his side to the play-offs: "We wanted to go out and play as a team, we've been scrapping away on tough surfaces. It was nice to execute our plans well tonight with the bat. We restricted them to a par total, but it's always tough chasing. After the first half of the first innings, we thought it was a tough surface, it was keeping low but Pant played a special knock. Then the wicket maybe got a little better. There was a little bit of dew, not a huge amount. It was nice to be batting on this surface, good to get some momentum. I suppose we were just trying to bat with intent. When you chase 180, there's always scoreboard pressure, we were just trying to relieve that. There were some tough periods, we needed to soak that up but Shikhar was outstanding, he showed intent from ball one, it was a terrific knock."
Shreyas Iyer, the naturally disappointed captain: "187 was a brilliant total on this wicket after the start of losing two wickets in the Powerplay. It was disheartening but the way Pant batted was commendable. The wicket played really well later on and it played a big role. We didn't get that many opportunities to get them out and the way we bowled, we didn't deserve to win this match. It's going to be important for us to win the remaining matches and get along well. It can boost our morale for next year. These are nail-biting games for us and the experience will help us in the future for the India A and other games."
Rishabh Pant has the Orange Cup courtesy of his bludgeoning 128* today
Who would have thought that Rishabh Pant would end on the losing side tonight? Who could have imagined that SRH would canter to a run chase of 188 with 9 wickets and 7 deliveries in the bank? While we must spare a thought for Pant, let us not forget how calmly and cleverly Dhawan and Williamson carried SRH to a win. While Dhawan was always the attacking of the two, his captain Williamson ensured stability from the other end.

From losing Alex Hales at 15, the left-right combination added 176 and that was that for Delhi. They are eliminated while SRH have entered the play-offs.
