That is all that was written for this contest. We could not have asked for a better spectacle and so we leave you to catch your breaths before the second semifinal clash tomorrow - Pakistan play Australia in Dubai for a spot in the final to take on New Zealand. Will it be a Trans-Tasman final or will Pakistan make it six on the trot to book their spot in the summit clash? There's a bit of rivalry and context between them and the Kiwis too, mind you, so whoever makes it, it should be a cracking matchup come the final. We are hoping for a cracker of a semifinal prior to that of course so do join us for our coverage of the same tomorrow. The rivalry between New Zealand and England in limited-overs cricket has yet another epilogue added to it. For Gros Islet 2010 and Mumbai 2016, we have witnessed yet another astonishing contest in the semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with Abu Dhabi 2021 joining the list. Kane Williamson and his men find themselves in another final and they will wait until Sunday. They have won the World Test Championship and are one step away from adding another piece of silverware all the space of five months.

Spare a thought for England though. Injuries to Tymal Mills and Jason Roy dented their roster heading into this clash and looking back at the contest in hindsight, it is safe to say that both were missed. Upfront against the new ball, England weren't quick to get off the blocks. And when they had to defend a hefty cushion of runs at the death, they weren't able to do so. It wasn't to be for Eoin Morgan and Co. but take nothing away from a fine campaign and the brand of cricket they continue to play. They are the standards that teams looks to emulate and they will have another shot at redemption next year in Australia.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): We play each other on a number of occasions. We knew it was going to be a great game of cricket and it certainly was the same. Really chuffed with the heart that we showed throughout the whole performance. Outstanding knock from Daryl Mitchell but just staying in there and playing small matchups was a great effort. (On Mitchell opening) Not an experiment in terms of his character but that's something that stood out today and pretty much every game he has played. He brings real quality there and he stood up under pressure. I suppose we were a little bit behind but T20 is a game of small margins. We've seen it all tournament - depending on the surface and what is the short side, the chances come and Jimmy maximized it. We did have wickets in hand and that made the difference. He (Neesham) came out and hit the ball hard. That's what he does and it was a really, really valuable knock. He changed the momentum of the game for us. It was a game of really small pieces and you are always trying to win those small moments. Fantastic knock from Daryl who stood up and hit the big ones when it mattered. The guys have been watching most of the games. It will be a fantastic match (tomorrow). This is a very strong English side and we know we have a big challenge coming up again and we will get ready for that.

Eoin Morgan (England Captain): Coming into the game, we knew both sides were very close in skill and play a great brand of cricket. Full credit to Kane and his team - they outplayed us today. I cant fault anything we've done tonight. We've fought unbelievably hard all tournament. Tonight we did the same thing but we fell short. The guys have given absolutely everything in the tournament. (Where did it possibly go wrong?) Hard to identify at the moment - I thought we were right in the game until the 17th or 18th over. They built until the moment they had to push and it came off. It was two-paced - we are a six-hitting side and we struggled to hit sixes. I think that showed that it was tough to bat. We felt it was par right at the end of the halfway stage. To have a batter come out and hit sixes like that from ball one is something not a lot of teams have. Full credit to him (Neesham). (Will he turn up in Australia next year?) I'm still offering enough within the side. I absolutely love playing cricket at the moment. The guys give everything in the change room. I'm incredibly proud to be their leader.

Daryl Mitchell (Player of the Match): Obviously a bit of a whirlwind. Nice to get the job done and move on to the next dance. It was quite challenging at the start. It was two-paced. Conway batted beautifully and set the platform. Neesham coming in at the end and striking it that way helped. We knew one or two big overs would bring the match our way. Luckily, we got a few away. It was amazing how well Neesham struck the ball. Lucky enough to get across the line. With what's going around in the world, it is pretty cool for him (my dad) to come around and watch.

Grant Elliott of 2015, meet Daryl Mitchell of 2021. This was some spectacle we've witnessed at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. And Ian Smith's words from 2019 will have to be paraphrased now - absolute ecstasy for New Zealand, agony for England! Unbelievable run chase from the Blackcaps!

Early wickets are always going to throw a spanner into the works of a chase. And if those two wickets read Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson then it's more than a solitary spanner that has been thrown into the chase alright. That is exactly what happened inside the first three overs with Chris Woakes wreaking havoc.

With the England bowlers then tightening the screws on Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway, the asking rate continued to rise with each passing over. Both batters struggled for timing even as Conway put the odd one away. Mitchell though, clearly struggled to get a move on (how wrong we were to be proven later on...)

They needed 109 off the last 10 overs and that's when both batters decided to press the accelerator. It wasn't fluent by any means with the odd one still mistimed and with not much dew on offer, England sensed their opportunities. When Liam Livingstone prized out Conway and Glenn Phillips, the writing seemed to be on the wall.

But what is a game of T20 cricket without the ebbs and flows? What is a semifinal clash without it going down to the wire? And what is an England-New Zealand contest without the thrills? Enter James Neesham - a four and three sixes saw him infuse a lot of momentum into the innings. That Chris Jordan failed to get his radar right definitely aided his cause but to be able to pull off something of that kind was truly a sight to behold.

There was an eerie similarity to the 50-over World Cup final at Lord's in 2019 when Bairstow nearly pulled off a stunning relay catch, only for his knee to make contact with the ropes. Memories of Trent Boult nearly getting rid of Ben Stokes that evening came racing back - it seemed as though destiny was writing a script in favor of New Zealand for a change.

And that is exactly what happened - despite the departure of Neesham with two overs to go. Who needs two overs to score 20 when you can do it in one? Daryl Mitchell did exactly that and ransacked Woakes to wrap up an incredible win. If you think it was done easy given that there was an over to spare fancy this - New Zealand needed 57 off four overs but they did in just three! They have pulled off some outrageously brilliant tonight!
