Player of the match:
That's it then from the opening game of the 2019 World Cup. Hope you enjoyed our live coverage. Do join in tomorrow as well as Pakistan take on the West Indies. Until then, it's a good bye from us!
: Delighted to be up and running. It's more satisfying than normal. We were very good today. We fought ourselves individually and as a batting unit throughout the first innings. The wicket didn't allow us to score quite a considerable total. But the maturity and smart cricket we played shows the improvement in the last two years and the experience as well. The score was about par. Extremely impressed [woth Ben Stokes]. That catch as well was absolutely outstanding and to have a match-winner like that lifts everybody. I thought the bowling unit really did get off to a great start and learnt from the first innings the way South Africa bowled. Archer bowled fast and accurate. He's improving every day and that's very exciting. We're looking for match-winning contributions in the field.
Faf du Plessis
: I think we were outplayed in all three departments. We brought it back really well at the end there. But Jofra got two wickets upfront and obviously losing Hash [Amla] as well which meant three down in the first 12 overs. I thought 300 was a par score. We were looking at 330-340 but when pace off the ball was working we thought 300 was about par. I thought the bowling was good but England is a good batting side. But to start with 3 wickets upfront got us behind the eight-ball. Amla is okay now. When he came off the field, he was all over the place and we were worried. But they did the tests and he did everything right which is a good sign.
Ben Stokes [Man of the Match]
: I took a step and panicked a bit. Didn't really know how to react (talking about the freak catch). The message from the batsmen out in the middle was it's a tricky wicket and try and get to 300-310. Towards the end, it was hard to get away and the boundaries were hard to come by. Psychologically getting over the 300-mark is a big thing for chasing. We obviously knew what was best for bowlers to do.
South Africa never really threatened in this chase. They lost Amla to a concussion early as Archer hit him on the helmet before picking up a couple of quick wickets. Quinton de Kock batted well and South Africa's hopes were pinned on him and things looked good when he was out in the middle. But once he holed out, the procession started as they lost their last 8 wickets for 78 runs. All the England bowlers contributed but Jofra Archer was the star with figures of 3/20!
There you go! It's all over, Stokes gets the final wicket and England have romped home a fantastic 104-run win in the opening game of this World Cup.
