Heather Knight, the Player of the Match and England's Captain: We spoke about how to approach batting on slower, harder wickets, but we came up short. Brunt was fantastic at building momentum, and her top-of-the-order bowling was outstanding. We had to really stretch our partnerships, bury the ego as a batter, and be disciplined in what you attacked if we wanted 20 more. A lot of learning, and it was a little closer than it seemed in the end. We aim to discover ways to strengthen and expand the team, as well as have a larger squad. In that innings, I was quite irritated at moments, and it was irritating not to achieve three figures. We've agreed to keep track of players throughout the series.

Sophie Devine, New Zealand's Captain: In the end, we came extremely near; the further we go, the closer we were. We believed 250 was a reasonable score on this track, and we were confident in our ability, but we didn't keep wickets in hand. We've seen the harm the lower order can cause; it's one that got away, which is a plus. We know the game will ebb and flow, so we'll have to be patient at times.

Well, well what an end to that contest! England have taken a 1-0 lead in this series after winning the opening fixture by 30 runs. An outstanding bowling performance from the hosts has helped them defend a slightly below par total on this wicket.

After putting up 241 on the board, England felt that they are 20 odd runs short of a par total. They needed early wickets in the second innings if they were to defend this total and the hosts could not have asked for a better start. New Zealand's openers struggled to get bat on ball against Katherine Brunt and Nat Sciver as they were restricted to 17/2 after the powerplay. Maddy Green departed soon after the close of field restrictions and then skipper Sophie Devine joined Amy Satterthwaite in the regrouping phase.

The duo added 60 odd runs for the fourth wicket and brought their side back in the game only till the scoreboard pressure got the better of skipper Sophie Devine as she departed for 34. The visitors started to collapse from there with Satterthwaite running out of partners at a quick rate.

Lea Tahuhu and Leigh Kasperek took the game deep and managed to rattle the English bowlers. The number 10 and 11 combined to add 40 runs and support Satterthwaite from the other end. The game was pretty much alive till the end with 31 being required off the final four overs. After a couple of dot balls, Kasperek found herself run out while trying to sneak a quick single. This left Satterthwaite stranded at 79 and England rejoice in victory.
