Jaffna Kings won by 23 runs.
Player of the match: Avishka Fernando
And that will be all. The curtains come down on yet another successful edition of the Lanka Premier League, a tournament that has just gone from strength to strength. It has provided an excellent platform for a number of players from Sri Lanka and as the country takes giant strides in the midst of a transition, do keep your eyes out for them. These players will form an exciting team to watch out for. It's been a pleasure bringing the coverage of this tournament to you here on Sportskeeda - thank you so much for tuning in as we hope you enjoyed it just the same. Keep yourselves up to date with all the other cricketing action from across the globe though on this very platform as loads more cricketing action lies ahead in whatever little is left of the calendar year. For now though, on behalf of my good friend and co-commentator Pradeep Somashekar, this is Sooryanarayanan Sesha once again reminding you to mask up and get vaccinated in case you haven't already. Goodnight, take care and see you soon!
Thisara Perera collects a cheque of USD 100,000 as well as the LPL trophy. It's twice in two years that he collects it and gets to hold it aloft and as huge cheers go off in the background, Perera hands over the trophy to his teammates. The fireworks go off and the Kings break into a huge roar. They will celebrate long into the night - they've had a sensational tournament and have come up deserving winners on the big night!
Thisara Perera, the winning captain of Jaffna Kings says, first of all, I want to thank the team, specially talking about the owners, they gave me the opportunity to pick my team and which is why we've won the game today. Gunathilaka batted well, I was a littler worried but we had runs on the road, 200 runs in a final it is always difficult. Much better that last year, talking about LPL, we can expect it to improve the next season and special mentions to, doctors, army and everyone!
Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Galle Gladiators Captain): First of all, all praises to God for having come this far. We haven't won the title but the boys have been amazing. It's like playing a series against Jaffna since we played them three times. After they put up 201, the way Danushka batted, he showed his class. I think we lost a lot of wickets after that. Not putting the blame on anyone but if you misfield like that in a final you won't win. Special credit to the team, the doctors, the franchise and the Sports Ministry as well. I want to take this opportunity to thank them.
Janith Liyanage of Dambulla Giants has been declared the Emerging Player of the Season.
Avishka Fernando has been adjudged the Player of the Match and Player of the Season for his blistering knock in the Finals and then match winning performances throughout the season!

says, he's done his best this season and extremely pleased about it. Talking about the batting position, he likes opening the batting and hopefully continues to do well!
Stick around with us as the presentation is coming up shortly...
Handshakes exchanged, embraces given to one another and post that, the Jaffna Kings team takes a lap of honor to thank what has been a magnificent crowd. In the times we're living in, it has been nothing short of a delight to the eye to see a massive crowd in and the Kings are rightfully expressing their gratitude to them.
The stage of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium was set for some drama. And drama of all kinds was what we witnessed out there. The protagonist was Danushka Gunathilaka but once his role was cut down to that of a first-half cameo, the Galle Gladiators never saw the happy ending they would have wanted.

While he was there, Gunathilaka batted like a man possessed though. A target of 202 didn't faze him one bit as he took the mickey out of the bowlers. Even Maheesh Theekshana was demystified as Gunathilaka blazed his way to a half-century off just 19 deliveries to pile a lot of agony on the Jaffna Kings. The pitch continued to remain true to its nature and it seemed as though Gunathilaka would pull off something spectacular.

However, Wanindu Hasaranga (let's just rename him Wow-indu already, shall we?) entered the contest to quash all hopes of the Gladiators. Having prized out Gunathilaka, he then got rid of Ben Dunk who really gifted his wicket to be fair and a period of consolidation was to follow.

The pressure of the big stage got to the Gladiators though - even the experienced Mohammad Hafeez succumbed to it as a mix-up saw him run-out. That wasn't the first run-out of the night though with Kusal Mendis too following suit, courtesy a direct hit from Thisara Perera. In between these events, skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa holed out and the writing was on the wall.

Samit Patel hung about and took it deep but with the asking rate mounting, it was a downward spiral that the Gladiators could never recover from. Hasaranga was brilliant in the field as well while his elder brother Chaturanga de Silva sent down a fantastic spell of his own. The two brothers orchestrated a classic middle-overs choke before the seamers completed the final rites and in a short while from now, Thisara Perera will lift the LPL trophy yet again.

Spare a moment for Galle Gladiators though - they've had a truly magnificent campaign and were worthy finalists. The pressure of the big occasion has got to them for the second time in as many seasons though and when they look back, they will realize that they were outbowled and more importantly, out-fielded by a top class Jaffna Kings outfit. They were always going to pay the price for a sloppy effort on the park and alas, that is exactly what transpired.
They lost their previous three encounters to the Galle Gladiators but on the big night, when it mattered the most, the defending champions have brought their A-game to the fore across dimensions and they will taste glory yet again. Jaffna Kings win by 23 runs and are crowned champions of the Lanka Premier League 2021!

19.6 Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Amir, THAT'S IT! IT'S ALL OVER! JAFFNA KINGS, CHAMPIONS OF LPL 2021! Full delivery on the outside off, Amir creams that one away but goes straight to extra-cover on the bounce, it doesn't matter. Jaffna Kings pull of a win when it mattered even though they lost all the games to Gladiators this season but they kept their best for the last!
Everyone in the Jaffna Kings dugout is getting ready to charge out to the middle.
19.5 Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Amir, nails a yorker on the stumps, Amir on the backfoot jams his bat to it and digs it straight back to Lakmal!
19.4 Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Amir, FOUR! Low full toss on the fourth stump line, Amir sits inside the crease and then slices it powerfully over extra-cover and gets another boundary!
19.3 Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Amir, OH! Going for the yorker this time, tails a low full toss into Amir on the middle and off as he makes room and taps it straight to extra-cover for no run.
No extras will do it now for the Kings. Realistically though, they're already there.
19.2 Suranga Lakmal to Nuwan Thushara, length delivery on the off-stump, Thushara making room again and caresses it past the point fielder and they pick up a single, once again timed sweetly by Thushara!
19.1 Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Amir, back of a length from around the wicket on the off-stump as Amir on the backfoot has a big swing but swats it past the covers for just a single.
Around the wicket comes Lakmal.
