Commentary

Odean Smith (Player of the Match): Firstly, I'd like to thank god. It was a good performance with both bat and ball. The pitch was a bit difficult to bat on. My mission was to see the ball, hit the ball if it was in my arc. All I had to do was bowl according to the pitch. It is a good opportunity for us to move forward. We have got the start now.

Kieron Pollard (Losing Captain): We gave a few too many runs at the end. Dropped few catches. We lost wickets too quickly. 140 was under par. Despite the way the wicket played, 9 out of 10 times we would have backed ourselves to chase this down. In T20s you look for momentum, that winning streak.

Nicholas Pooran (Winning Captain): Yeah, I don't win tosses (smiles). The toss doesn't matter much. We thought he (Odean) batted low at no. 8 so we pushed him. Really happy with his performance. Really pleased with the bowler's performance especially the way spinners performed. A little disappointed on how our last over went

Guyana Amazon Warriors won by 9 runs

Right then, Trinbago Knight Riders and their winning juggernaut finally comes to a screeching halt, courtesy an all-round performance from Guyana Amazon Warriors who continued to come back into the contest and never once threw the towel in.

A target of 142 was always going to pose tricky as the surface was slow and tacky. However, the defending champions didn't reaccess their plans and continued to play slam-bang cricket from the word go. Lendl Simmons hit few lusty blows before falling in the second over to the change in pace from Romario Shepherd who finished with enviable figures of 3-1-15-3.

However, it was the South African maestro Imran Tahir that set the platform for Guyana Warriors to trap the TKR batsmen. The leggie bowled with incredible composure and laser-sharp accuracy as he accounted for the dismissal of two TKR batsmen that included the big-ticket wickets of Sunil Narine and Darren Bravo.

Tim Seifert tried to dig in but could never really read the spinners and their variations. Youngster Ashmead Nedd was an ideal foil to Imran Tahir. Despite getting a little tap in his final over, he bowled an encouraging spell which would give more confidence to skipper Pooran to include him more often in the playing XI.

While the wickets kept tumbling, all hopes were on Captain Kieron Pollard to steer the ship and once again pull off one of his Houdini acts, as he has done numerous times across his illustrious T20 career. However, Shepherd got the ball to bounce a little, which took Pollard by surprise and he ended up gloving it back to the keeper, thus bringing an end to TKR's hopes. Ramdin did try to salvage something out of the wreckage but couldn't last long.

Akeal Hosein pumped 22 runs in the final over but the target was always going to be a bit out of their reach. In the end, GWA comfortably cantered to a victory and have become the first team to inflict the taste of defeat to TKR since the 2020 season.

They needed these lusty blows couple of overs back but Hosein tried his best to shorten the margin of loss as Knight Riders go down and the Guyana Amazon Warriors notch up their two points of the very first game. Full toss on the off-stump and Hosein hangs back to SMOKE that one over the long-on fence for a maximum!

19.5 Naveen-ul-Haq to Akeal Hosein, SIX! BAM! Full toss again, yorker goes horribly wrong as Hosein shuffles across and then DISPATCHES it over the deep square leg region for another maximum, too little too late for the Knight Riders this!

Final rites being performed with utmost finesse. Ravi Rampaul departs after contributing a solitary run to the total. Jaden Seales, RHB, walks out to the middle as the last batsman and he will be at the non-striker's end

19.4 Naveen-ul-Haq to Ravi Rampaul, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Change of pace does the trick for Naveen, short delivery on the outside off as Rampaul looking to hoick but skies it straight up and Pooran behind the stumps positions and takes an easy catch. Just the finishing touches remain for the Warriors!

19.3 Naveen-ul-Haq to Akeal Hosein, takes the pace of the ball completely, short on the wide of off-stump and Hosein shuffles long way across the off-stump and then looks to power it away but miscues it to the long-on region for a single.

Would you believe it? Romario Shepherd bowls a wicket maiden over! He bowls according to the field plan, reaps the reward for it as Ramdin holes out to Malik at the long-on fence wher e he just had to hop a little to complete the catch. GWA were 125/6 at the end of the penultimate over while TKR have fallen well behind at 111/8. 32 runs required in 6 deliveries and only a miracle can save them
