That's all from today! Do join us tomorrow as well for another round of exciting matches. Till then I have been Ankit Sharma along with Dwijesh Reddy, as we call it a night!
It's just the first match in the tournament for both the teams, so they will be looking to improve and get better as time goes on. Kerala who have a well balanced team will look to improve further and improve their flaws, facing stronger teams in their group. Meanwhile, Pondicherry will have to go back to the drawing board to improve things for them before it gets too late.
Kerala were on top of things since ball one, got quick wickets in intervals to hold off the opposition from scoring a big total. Restricted Pondicherry to 138, which at the Wankhede was never going to be enough. Jalaj was outstanding, picking up 3 wickets, but was supported well by all bowlers overall. It was absolutely great to see a World Cup Winner return to competitive cricket after serving a ban. His emotions could be seen out in the middle, coming back from what must have been a difficult period of time for the veteran Sreesanth. Both the Kerala openers got them off to a quick start before falling in succession. But the combination of Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson steered their team close to victory with some sensible batting. Ashith and Sagar troubled the batsmen but did not get support from the other bowlers, and hence 139 was an easy chase even with 4 wickets down.
Just two balls needed of the 19th over to finish the formalities. Vinod with the winning runs off his bat, as Kerala rise as winners of the first match of this year's tournament.
18.2 Fabid Ahmed to Vishnu Vinod, a full-toss on off-stump, Vinod punches it down the ground for a single as Kerala beats Puducherry by six wickets!
18.1 Fabid Ahmed to Salman Nizar, a full ball bowled on middle and leg, Nizar drives it past the cover region for a single as scores are now level!
Fabid Ahmed, back into the attack.
Economical from Rohit, but doesn't matter really, because only 2 runs are needed now for Kerala.
Over: 18 | Summary: 0 1 1 0 1 1 Bowler: Damodaran Rohit Score: 137/4
17.6 Rohit Damodaran to Salman Nizar, a full ball bowled on the pads, Nizar turns it towards the deep square leg region for a single!
17.5 Rohit Damodaran to Vishnu Vinod, a low full-toss outside off, Vinod plays it to the sweeper cover region and collects a single
17.4 Rohit Damodaran to Vishnu Vinod, a full ball bowled outside off, Vinod digs it out but for no runs!
17.3 Rohit Damodaran to Salman Nizar, a low full-toss on middle stumps, Nizar presents a straight bat and drives it to the man at long-on for a single
17.2 Rohit Damodaran to Vishnu Vinod, a full ball bowled on middle and leg, Vinod pushes it down the ground for a single
17.1 Rohit Damodaran to Vishnu Vinod, a length ball bowled outside off, Vinod cuts it straight to the man at point for no runs
Sloppy bit of fielding in the deep cover region, ruining what has otherwise been a very impressive spell from Ashith. He did his level best to damage the oppositions chances but the target was never a big challenge to begin with. 6 runs needed off 18 deliveries.

Rohit Damodaran, into the attack.
Over: 17 | Summary: 1 1 0 4 2 0 Bowler: Score: 0/0
16.6 Ashith S to Salman Nizar, a length ball bowled in the corridor of uncertainty but Nizar lets it go and wants nothing to do with it!
16.5 Ashith S to Salman Nizar, a length ball bowled outside off, Nizar dabs it into the gap between backward point and short third-man for a double!
16.4 Ashith S to Salman Nizar, FOUR! A short ball bowled outside off, Nizar pulls it to deep square leg, where Marimuthu fails to stop it and allows a boundary to go through!
