Sunil Narine Man of the Match:
"I'll stick to my bowling (when asked if he was a batting all-rounder or bowling all-rounder). That made me the cricketer I am today. Nice to come out with a win. Getting the freedom to play my shots, being free. That's the key. They back me whatever happens. He relies highly on spin. It's a total team effort. Seamers did the job early and we finished it off. Everyone takes their success differently. For me, it's to be as humble as possible,. I am enjoying my game with good performances."
"Credit to the franchisee. They picked lot of under-19 players. They are really skilled players. It's little harsh on him (Gill). The number of times, he's been able to hit boundary off the first ball. That boy is special. I don't want to hype it up and put extra pressure on him. I can see a lot of years of India Blues in him.
"I picked it up early, that we can bowl a lot of spin on this wicket. Our bowlers are so confident. They wanted to bowl. You need to be pushing boundaries. He (Narine) is a thorough all-rounder. Provides impetus at the top and also bowled the pressure overs. He's a great player to have in the team."
"If the wicket remained the same the total was decent, I felt this wicket was on the slower side but you have to hit the seam hard. When you are bowling the slower ball, if you can hit the seam then you can generate variable bounce. In the second half wicket became much better under the lights.
"The easy way is to compare the two balls after 20 overs. Second ball will be in the better shape. Ball was coming nicely under the lights. Overall disappointed with the loss, we need to do better than this in the bowling department. A few more runs would have helped. We knew the kind of fielding we will do after the team was picked. But what is more disappointing is guys are not aware on the field. Your speed might not be too much but you have to be attentive in the field.
"Classic example is Hussey, when he was playing for CSK he was not the quickest but he used to anticipate really well and that used to give him extra second. That is the kind of commitment needed in the field. If no one is bowling well, keep shuffling bowlers around. If no one does well, game will be over soon. We are slightly on and off in the field. Keeping it simple helps, I think bowlers need to vary their pace and you need to be aware of the strengths of the batsmen and accordingly you need to bowl. You can tell bowler a lot but when they have ball in the hand they are on their own."
"Obviously I am pleased to have been promoted to number 4 today. We were just talking (Himself and DK) that we need to rotate the strike in the middle overs, it was crucial to see off the spinners. It was not really to target him (Asif), we played according to the merit - if the balls were there, we just went for it. KKR crowd is the best crowd, they always support us. It has been a really great experience so far and when you are coached by Kallis and Katich, you have so much to learn from them."
Shubman Gill and Dinesh Karthik, 14 years apart in age, combined flair and fluency to take KKR home at a canter (at least, at the end). With Uthappa gone early, it felt like the middle-order will feel too strained, especially with veterans like Bravo and Harbhajan stuffing the innings with their crafty bowling. Gill, an enterprising kid with no sense of nerves, motored along in merriment, and was guided along by Karthik, ever-so-calma and dependable.
Lots of pondering to do for Chennai. Lots of holes to plug.
17.4 Bravo to Karthik, FOUR, slower ball from Bravo and Karthik just places that wide of backward point and KKR beat CSK by six wickets.
17.3 Bravo to Karthik, FOUR, DK wants to finish in a hurry. That was another ill-timed yorker that races to the boundary. Full toss to a man batting with a strike rate of over 200 is just criminal. That was the only thing left to bowl. A low full-toss that sits up with a 'hit-me-now' tag on them.
17.3 Bravo to Karthik, WIDE down the leg side. Bravo decides he wants to do his bit to help KKR get home early. KKR now one hit away.
17.2 Bravo to Karthik, 2 runs, that was wide from Bravo and Karthik wants this done in this over. Calls Gill for two and gets there comfortably.
17.1 Bravo to Karthik, FOUR, that was garbage from Bravo. Full ball on the pads and Karthik takes an easy boundary. Attempted yorker, but there aren't many things that have gone right for CSK. How would this.
KKR: 165/4(RR 9.71)
4 1 1 1 wd 1 1
16.6 Ngidi to Karthik, 1 run, yorker on the pads and Karthik just clips that nonchalantly to fine leg to retain strike. Harbhajan is stationed, gets down on one of his two 37-year-old knees to keep the score to one.
16.5 Ngidi to Gill, 1 run, slower ball again from Ngidi and he must on the same diet as Bravo. Another one with a smorgasbord of slower balls CSK have got in their ranks?
16.5 Ngidi to Gill, WIDE down the leg side. His GPS has come off, needs to put it back in place.
16.4 Ngidi to Karthik, 1 run, slower ball from Ngidi and Karthik read that like his favorite book. But he doesn't want any unfair advantage as he just guides that to third man for a single.
16.3 Ngidi to Gill, 1 run, again Ngidi goes short but Gill sees that coming and guides that to backward point to bring his captain back on strike. Out comes the slower one to the rescue, albeit, only for the time being. Need to send some men back to the hut.
16.2 Ngidi to Karthik, 1 run, Ngidi goes slightly short and Karthik decides to tap that off his back foot and sneak a single.
16.1 Ngidi to Karthik, FOUR, that was a freebie for Karthik and it looks like CSK are in a hurry to get home. That was a hit-me ball and Karthik takes it and says thank you. Back of a length is bread and butter for Ngidi, but if it's sliding down leg like that, he's serving it on a platter.
As there is a slight break for the time-out, the game is all but over. DK, the finisher has come up trumps just when KKR needed it. 23 needed off 24 balls. Dhoni's strategy has been questionable so far, especially with regards to his choice to bowlers at crucial times. That might yet be the reason for their defeat.
15.6 Jadeja to Karthik, 1 run, waits in his crease and clips the ball to midwicket to saunter across.
15.5 Jadeja to Karthik, FOUR! Unleashes the cheeky reverse sweep, somehow gets enough meat to beat short third man
15.4 Jadeja to Karthik, 2 runs, Asif comes running at long leg and dives to cut off the two, Karthik's sweep shot not reaching the fence.
15.3 Jadeja to Gill, 1 run, on the off stump, tapped to backward point to change ends. There was a bit of turn and bounce for Jadeja.
15.2 Jadeja to Gill, FOUR! If he wasn't a cricketer, he would have been a famed surgeon. Delectable cover drive, past the range of three fielders. All of whom were motionless in time as the ball raced past them.
15.1 Jadeja to Gill, 2 runs, eases the ball down to widish long off, returns to complete his 50. What a talent.
KKR: 141/4(RR 9.40)
6 . 2 6 1 6
14.6 Asif to Karthik, SIX! The Asif gamble doesn't work. Another short one follows, Karthik climbs into that one and smacks it into the fine leg cheers. That's an expensive set of six balls and one that might have just given KKR the game.
14.5 Asif to Gill, 1 run, stays put and gently places the ball down to third man to change ends. Sensible.
14.4 Asif to Gill, SIX! Rocks back and slashes the ball, cutting it uppishly over deep point. Rayudu makes a valiant effort, getting a hand as well, but tips it over the fence. This is turning into a massive over for KKR, potentially a game-changing one.
