Rajasthan Royals, after the first five overs, were nowhere in the game. This loss makes their final league game against Royal Challengers Bangalore a do-or-die for both the teams. For that, they should also hope that KXIP and KKR lose at least one game.
This win takes KKR to 14 points and a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad will put them into the playoffs irrespective of the other results.
This is a quite convincing win for Kolkata. They could have improved their NRR by finishing things off much earlier. But, why will NRR come into the equation when you have 16 points? Chasing 143 was never going to be tough for a batting unit like KKR. The first over bowled by K Gowtham went for 20 runs and in spite of losing two early wickets, KKR always stayed in the game, thanks to Chris Lynn's 42-ball 45 and Dinesh Karthik's unbeaten 31-ball 41. Ben Stokes' 3-15 couldn't help his team as he didn't get any support from the likes of Jofra Archer.
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS BEAT RAJASTHAN ROYALS BY SIX WICKETS.
Over 18 KKR: 145/4(RR 8.06) Bowler: J Archer Sum..: 1 4 1 . 4 6
17.6 Archer to Karthik, SIX... game set... match, steps back to a short ball and hoicked it over deep mid-wicket, Karthik stamps the finishing touch again, KKR are back in this!
17.5 Archer to Karthik, FOUR, length ball on off, Karthik looks to drive, genuine outside edge, the ball flies to third man, who touches the ball while in contact with the ropes, good effort though from Gowtham
17.4 Archer to Karthik, no run, full ball angled in, Karthik flicked it away to short mid-wicket
17.3 Archer to Russell, no run, tries to angle in a yorker, bowls it full, creamed away to long on
17.2 Archer to Russell, FOUR, BOOM, makes room, Archer bowls it full, and then belts a drive a through covers
17.1 Archer to Karthik, 1 run, short ball, Karthik pulls, not in control, it goes across to Sodhi at fine leg
Over 17 KKR: 129/4(RR 7.59) Bowler: J Unadkat Sum..: 4 1 4 . . 1
16.6 Unadkat to Karthik, 1 run, waits for the ball and then plays it squarer to point to retain strike
16.5 Unadkat to Karthik, no run, slowish ball on off, Karthik once again looks to stab it down to third man, he misses out again and then yells at himself
16.4 Unadkat to Karthik, no run, he looks to run the ball to third man again, but this time he is beaten
16.3 Unadkat to Karthik, FOUR, dexterity from Dinesh, he steps out, Unadkat bowls a length ball tight at the stumps, he then waits, opens the face of the bat and gets it past Buttler. DEFT!
16.2 Unadkat to Russell, 1 run, slow length ball, Russell goes for the almighty slog over mid-wicket, hits the bat and then the pads, Karthik takes a run
16.1 Unadkat to Russell, FOUR, goes short on off, Russell backs away and slams the cut over point, one bounce and over the ropes
Just three runs off Stokes' last over in the IPL. He finishes his spell with figures 4-1-15-3, the same amount of wickets he hasken in his previous 12 matches.
Over 16 KKR: 119/4(RR 7.44) Bowler: B Stokes Sum..: 1 W lb 1 . .
15.6 Stokes to Karthik, no run, length ball on the stumps, Karthik defends it with caution. Brilliant spell from Ben!
15.5 Stokes to Karthik, no run, fires a full ball again, Karthik jams it out past Stokes, but not enough for any run
15.4 Stokes to Russell, 1 run, fires a full and straight ball, Russell on the backfoot clips it away to mid-wicket
15.3 Stokes to Karthik, LEG BYE, length ball angled in, Karthik looks to flick it away, hit on the pads, REFERRED. No problem with the no-ball, pitching on line, no contact with the bat, hits him in in line and clips the top of leg-stump. Umpire's call it is. DK survives while RR will have their review in their bag.
Strategic time-out: In spite of Chris Lynn's wicket, this is still KKR's match to lose as they need just 27 runs off 28 balls with skipper Dinesh Karthik and big-hitting Jamaican Andre Russell at the crease.
15.2 Stokes to Lynn, OUT, is there a twist in the tale, it was short, it was wide, it was also slow, Lynn looks to cut it up and over point, does not time it and the ball flies across to sweeper point. Stokes returns and strikes immediately.
15.1 Stokes to Karthik, 1 run, full ball angled in, dabbed away to long on
Ish Sodhi just finished his over and the umpire thought that the Kiwi has to bowl one more delivery. When he is ready to bowl one more, he gets a signal from the leg umpire or the third umpire on the completion of the 15th over. No prizes for guessing who the umpire is.
Over 15 KKR: 116/3(RR 7.73) Bowler: I Sodhi Sum..: . 4 1 . 2 .
