That brings us to the end of our coverage on this double-header Sunday in the IPL. Do join us tomorrow at 8 pm as the Kings XI Punjab take on Royal Challengers Bangalore. Until then, it is goodbye from us at
Nitish Rana is the Man of the Match. For some reason, there is no interview with him at the presentation.
"Winning the game is the most important thing. We like to keep everybody on their toes till the last ball. But in the end, it was important to get that first win"
"At Wankhede, we back ourselves to go out and get anything. Nitish and Hardik have been batting really well."
"Losing few wickets in the middle never really helped."
"We won't take anything for granted. When we enter the field, we want to be 100%"
As Gambhir said, KKR have only themselves to blame. This is a game that they should have closed out with no problems at all.
Also, with that chase, one
shouldn't forget Manish Pandey's knock
for KKR. It was a stunning knock that took KKR to 178 and made a match out of this, Without that, KKR would have fallen well short of anything competitive.
"179 was a very good score on the board. But we lost our nerve in the last few overs. But Hardik played a brilliant knock and obviously Nitish too."
"We back our bowlers to do the job. The way they have bowled throughout the last two games has been encouraging. But we panicked in the last few overs"
"It is a good chasing ground, everyone knows that. There was dew, but if we had kept our nerves in the last few overs, we should have won that."
"No update on Lynn yet."
Mumbai Indians win by 4 wickets.
It was a match in which they seemed down and out, but came back with a stunning assault at the death. Absolutely awesome batting from two precociously talented youngsters.
This was Kolkata's game to win, but they lost their calm and succumbed to the pressure at the death. Buttler and Parthiv got Mumbai off to a good start, but KKR came back strongly and picked wickets at regular intervals to thwart Mumbai.
It was 60 to win off the last four overs and that was where Rana and Pandya took over. KKR were shoddy on the field, especially in the last over, when Suryakumar Yadav misfielded to allow a boundary and Rishi Dhawan dropped a regulation chance.
But that should take nothing away from a sensational chase from Mumbai, particularly Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya.
WHAT A CHASE FROM MUMBAI! TAKE A BOW, NITISH RANA AND HARDIK PANDYA!
19.5 Boult to Hardik,
FOUR. Hardik Pandya you beauty, full ball on the pads, Hardik keeps his head and swings it away to fine leg to win it for Mumbai
19.4 Boult to Hardik, 2 runs, another bumper, Hardik skies the pull, the ball goes up miles in the air, Rishi Dhawan shells the chance at deep square leg. This has gone awry for Kolkata. Terribly awry.
19.3 Boult to Hardik, no run, brilliant ball, a short ball, nasty bumper, Hardik avoids it
Pressure. Pressure. Pressure. Mumbai need 5 off 4.
19.2 Boult to Hardik,
FOUR, Hardik swings it down the ground, Surya makes a meal of it at long on
19.1 Boult to Hardik, 2 runs, full ball on the pads, ball kisses the pads, and they scamper across for a brace. Hardik remains on strike.
168/6 in 19 overs. Another 19-run over means Mumbai need 11 off the last over. Importantly for them, Hardik is on strike. What a stunning recovery this has been from Mumbai.
18.6 Rajpoot to Hardik, 1 run, slower length ball on the stumps, bunted down to long on
18.5 Rajpoot to Hardik,
SIX, low full toss on the stumps, Hardik scoops it well over mid-wicket. You feel it is Mumbai's game to lose now. Stunning onslaught from Hardik
18.4 Rajpoot to Harbhajan, 1 run, nailed a yorker on of stump, Harbhajan squeezes it out to point
What a good knock from young Nitish Rana. The more fancied names around him failed with the bat. But he has put Mumbai in with a fighting chance here with 50 off 29 balls. Mumbai need 19 off 9 balls. Bhajji walks in.
18.3 Rajpoot to Rana,
OUT, low full toss, Rana backs away and this time creams it but straight to Narine at point.
Ends a fabulous inning from an immensely talented young cricketer. More twists and turns in this game.
18.3 Rajpoot to Rana, WIDE, oh dear! This is slipped down the leg side. Pressure!
18.2 Rajpoot to Rana,
FOUR, another sloppy full toss, he backs away and carves it over covers. 50 up for Rana, brilliant innings. He has kept Mumbai in the hunt, and now they are in with a big chance of pulling this one off.
18.1 Rajpoot to Rana,
SIX, gets down low and scoops it way over the keeper's head. Pressure on Rajpoot!
149/5 after 18 overs. That is a big over for Mumbai, who remain in the hunt with that 19-run over. The 19th over becomes incredibly crucial now. Great striking from Rana and Pandya. Ankit Rajpoot will bowl the 19th over.
17.6 Boult to Hardik,
SIX, length ball angled in, Hardik picks up the length and swipes it over deep mid-wicket. This is HUGE!
Again Boult misses his length. This is poor bowling from someone with as much pedigree as Boult.
17.5 Boult to Rana, 1 run, slower length ball, Rana sets himself up but could not get the pace to swing it across. That is a good comeback from Boult, with the back of the hand slower ball.
17.4 Boult to Rana,
SIX, gentle full toss on the pads, Rana sets himself up and flicks it over deep square leg.
Poor bowling from Boult. He has not got his length right through this over. That is meat and drink for any batsman,
17.3 Boult to Rana,
FOUR, low full toss outside off, Rana opens the face and squeezes it away past point. That is a much needed boundary for young Rana, who is playing beautifully.
17.2 Boult to Hardik, 1 run, slow length ball on off, dragged away to deep mid-wicket
17.1 Boult to Rana, 1 LEG BYE, full toss, kisses the pads. Rana will feel he has missed out on an opportunity to get a boundary.
