Commentary

Netherlands XI win by 4 runs and win the ECC Group-B Final

Right then, chug down a glass of water and get your breaths back. That game had more ebbs and flows than any game we have witnessed in the last week. In the end, it was the last over of the Netherlands innings and four consecutive maximums by Olivier Elenbass that proved to be the key difference between a win and defeat.

Chasing a modest total of 127 on the small Cartama Oval ground, the Austrians would have fancied their chances. However, Vivian Kingma, started off with some venom and sent Shahil Momin into the pavilion on the second ball of the chase. However, Kingma was quickly cut to size as opposition skipper Razmal Shigiwal pummeled him for couple of crunchy boundaries.

Shigiwal, along with Abrar did the reconstruction work and ensured that his side didn't lose the momentum inside the powerplay overs. However, in the battle between captains of the two teams, it was the Dutch skipper that came out on top.

After being slapped for a boundary, Braat charged in quickly and bowled a deceitful slower ball, inducing the false shot. Austrian's that had relied on their skipper throughout the tournament to do the bulk of the scoring suddenly found themselves nursing a deep wound.

However, then walked Iqbal Hossain and threatened to take the game away from the Dutch's grasp. The right-hand dasher played a brilliant 12 ball 24 run cameo and nearly gave a sniff of a victory to his team.

Netherland's bowler of the tournament Julian De Mey got the stick in the big final. Meanwhile, after Hossain's departure, it was lanky Zeeshan Goraya, who had been going through a lean patch that turned up a switch and smoked few lusty hits to take his team closer to the target.

With only nine runs required in the final over, the game was for the Austrians to lose. Dutch skipper Sebastiaan Braat took the responsibility to dart the final 6 deliveries and bowled a phenomenal over, conceding only 4 runs and helping his team take the shining silverware home.

They have qualified for the big Championship final round that is expected to start in 10 days time as the action moves onto the group-C encounters where mind you, the team from England will be making their debut in the T10 arena.
