New Zealand won by 8 wickets
Player of the match: Trent Boult
New Zealand win by 8 wickets with 172 balls to spare

Trent Boult (Player of the Match):
Yeah, obviously, nice to get off the mark. The bowlers bowled decently and the batters chased it down well. Pretty satisfying coming here and playing good cricket. The wicket is nice to bowl on. I didn't say much to the debutants but some good words were spoken by the other members for them as well as for Tom (playing his 100th ODI match) and Nicholls (playing his 50th). I'm sure it is a happy changing room.

Tamim Iqbal: I thought there were too many soft dismissals. We played some loose shots. Hope we find out the mistakes and learn from them. We take a lot of pride in our batting but we didn't click today. 130 on this pitch was not enough. We had a couple of days in Queenstown, can't complain about the conditions. We have been coming here, though New Zealand doesn't come to Bangladesh. Mahedi Hasan bowled nicely. Bowling in these conditions is not easy.

Tom Latham: It was nice to get presented with the 100th match cap. It was nice to give the cap to debutants as well. This bowling group hasn't played for a while, so for us, it was getting in the middle and setting the tone. As a bowling unit, it was a clinical effort. When you win, it doesn't matter how you win. The way Guptill came out and set up the chase, it was a clinical performance from him. The crowd was fantastic here, fingers crossed, the crowd can come in Christchurch as well.

Utter domination is the word! Bangladesh has been thoroughly outplayed by a much superior opposition in New Zealand in the first match of the series. However, the fate of the match was sealed in the first innings itself after the visitors failed to play their full quota of 50 overs and skittled for a meagre total of 131 runs. After that, it was only a matter of time before blackcaps completed the formalities. The chase was off to a blinder as Martin Guptill looked at his imperious best and got off the door in a lightning-quick fashion.

En route his 19 balls 38 run innings, the right-hand dasher blasted 4 huge maximums and three boundaries. After his dismissal, it was Henry Nicholls, playing his 50th ODI along with debutant Devon Conway, who ensured that the team reached the victory shores without any untoward incident. The latter however fell just 13 short of the target, looking to go for one of the glory shots. The chase was then completed by the duo of Nicholls and another debutant Will Young, who blasted two consecutive deliveries to the boundary ropes to strand his partner on 49.

However, the biggest talking point in the chase was the lack of fight shown by the visitors. Bangladesh did not even try to challenge the NZ batters by putting up challenging field positions as Tamim Iqbal went for the conservative approach. With shoulders dropping after the first over itself, it was Taskin Ahmed, the right-hand fast bowler who bowled with some spunk to show that even the Bangladesh bowlers could extract some purchase off the pitch.

However, he was quickly neutralized as well after the two left-handers started rotating the strike easily. The pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh was the debutant Mahedi Hasan who bowled with some guile and did not allow the NZ batters to run away with the game. One of the rare positives that the Bangla Tigers will take from this match.

So that's it from our side. This is Abhinav Singh, along with my partner Pradeep Somashekhar signing off. Until next time, stay safe, stay indoors and keep wearing a mask and washing your hands. Goodbye!
Over: 22 | Summary: 4 4 Bowler: Hasan Mahmud Score: 0/0
21.2 Hasan Mahmud to Will Young, FOUR MORE! DONE AND DUSTED! New Zealand complete the annihilation as Young finishes in a canter! Short delivery into the batsman as Young swivels and pulls this one away to the deep backward square leg region for another boundary to finish things in style!
21.1 Hasan Mahmud to Will Young, FOUR! Third-man fielder quite square on that occasion. Back of a length on the outside off as Young looks to get on top it and runs it down to third-man where the fielder scampers and puts up a dive which went in vain as it goes over the ropes for a boundary!
Hasan Mahmud [4-0-41-1] to steam in to bowl his fifth over

Only 8 runs required from 174 balls. Nicholls nearing his half-century would look to apply the finishing touches in this over itself and head for an early dinner in the town of Dunedin.

20.1 Soumya Sarkar to Will Young, back of a length on the outside off, shaping away slightly as Young waits for it and runs it down to third-man for a single. Young is off the mark straightaway in his international career. Soak it in young lad!
Will Young, right-hand batsman struts out to bat at no. 4 in his first ODI appearance. Part-timer Soumya Sarkar replaces Mahedi Hasan

Devon Conway gifts his wicket out of nowhere to the Bangladeshi youngster Hasan Mahmud who had struggled all through the evening. The left-hander would be mighty disappoint that he could not stay till the end and see off his team over the finishing line
