Australia Women win by 6 wickets!

That's all from the Seddon Park, Hamilton as the 1st T20I between New Zealand Women & Australia Women ends, with Australia winning by 6 wickets. That also brings our coverage to an end here, but stay tuned to Sportskeeda for the latest scores and updates from the world of sports. This is Abhinav Kumar and alongside me, my colleague Pradeep Somashekar signing off for now! Take care and stay safe fellas!
That's all she wrote, as the returning Ellyse Perry in the company of Ashleigh Gardner have cantered Australia home to a 6-wicket win in the 1st T20I here against New Zealand at Hamilton.

Australia's innings started on a really ugly note, when they lost their opening pair of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney falling within the first 7 deliveries of the innings for just 2 and a Golden Duck respectively and then they were reduced to 14/3 when Rachael Haynes was dismissed for just 3, which put the innings under some real stress. But that's when Ashleigh Gardner emerged and first in the company of her skipper Meg Lanning, who scored a run-a-ball 28, raised 48 runs for the 4th wicket and then in the company of the fit-again Ellyse Perry, stitched up an unbeaten 71-run partnership for the 5th wicket to ensure that there were no further hiccups in the run chase of 131 runs. Gardner was unbeaten on a stunning 73 from just 48 balls, while Perry was unbeaten on 23 off 16 balls.

For New Zealand, it was Jess Kerr who was the pick of the bowlers, with a superb spell of 2/17 from 4 overs, where she broke the back of the Australian top-order & she was well supported by the off-spinner Frankie Mackay, who bowled a decent spell herself of 1/29 from 4 overs, while Amelia Kerr picked up the other wicket, but was taken for big runs, to end up with 1/34 in 3 overs. Rosemary Mair looked good in her 3 overs, but went wicketless and conceded 18 runs, while captain Sophie Devine too bowled 3 overs, but went for 22 runs without taking a wicket and Hayley Jansen got the 1 over, from which 11 runs were scored.

Australia, except for a brief period at the start of their chase, never looked out of sorts & thanks to a powerful innings from Gardner, have take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match T20I series.

Ashleigh Gardner was adjudged Player of the Match for her 73* from 48 deliveries.
17.6 Frankie Mackay to Ellyse Perry, FOUR MORE! DONE AND DUSTED! These two just showed even when the chips are down they can still pull things back. Short delivery into Perry as she rocks back and hammers it through the square leg and picks up a boundary and Australia win the 1st T20I!
17.5 Frankie Mackay to Ellyse Perry, FOUR! Tossed up, full on the outside off as Perry dances down the track and lofts it over the mid-off region and picks up a boundary. Wonderful shot!
17.4 Frankie Mackay to Ashleigh Gardner, flighted delivery, full on the outside off as Gardner skips down the track to play the inside out drive shot to the cover region for another single
17.3 Frankie Mackay to Ellyse Perry, short delivery into Perry on the off-stump as she rocks back and stood tall to punch it down the ground to long-on for a single

17.1 Frankie Mackay to Ellyse Perry, tossed up, full on the outside off as Perry skips down the track and whacks it to the mid-off fielder for no run

Frankie Mackay will bowl out her spell now.

16.3 Sophie Devine to Ashleigh Gardner, full delivery on the outside off as Gardner prods forward and drives it uppishly through the extra cover and they come back for a brace
