The game has officially been called off.
Both teams share the spoils.
Both Ian Gould and Nigel Llong are out in the middle with the match referee.
We could expect a match soon.
The sun is out and shining, but they are not ready to take the covers off.
In about 25 minutes from now, we'll have the all-important pitch inspection.
Good news! The rain has stopped. We may get a game now. Inspection in a few seconds.
Latest update from Bristol.
Word is that once the rain stops, the groundsmen can prepare the ground in 90 minutes. So, that means the game will not commence before 7 PM IST.
It is still raining heavily at Bristol.
We have not received any update from Bristol yet but the weather forecasts indicate that the match will be abandoned today.
Sri Lanka will play their next match against Bangladesh whereas Pakistan will go head-to-head with defending champions, Australia.
Sri Lanka would be happy to take one point from this encounter as Pakistan had defeated England in their previous match. Also, Sri Lanka has never beaten Pakistan in a World Cup match.
The Blackcaps will play Afghanistan tomorrow and it is very much likely they will consolidate their position at the top with their 3rd victory of the tournament
New Zealand are at the top of table with 4 points and a net run rate of +2.279
In case the match is abandoned today, Pakistan will leapfrog to the 3rd position in the points table while Sri Lanka will occupy the 4th position. Both teams have two points right now and a no result will give them 1 point each.
The probability that we will get a full match are minimal at the moment.
In the 1992 World Cup, Pakistan lost a warm-up match to a minnow, lost its first World Cup match to Windies, won its second fixture and the third game was washed out! Co-incidentally, that was the last time the World Cup was played in Round-Robin format!!
UPDATE - It is raining at the moment here at Bristol. The coin toss has been delayed!
The two teams have played 153 ODIs against each other, with Pakistan winning 90 of them. Sri Lanka has won 58 matches while 1 match has ended in a tie besides the four games which have not produced any result.
Till then let us have a look at the some of the interesting numbers of the ODIs played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka
We are just 10 minutes away from the toss.
Probable Playing XI
Pakistan
- Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C & W), Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, and Mohammad Hasnain
Sri Lanka - Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratane, Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanne, Milinda Siriwardana, Angelo Matthews, Thisara Perera, Jeevan Mendis, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal and Lasith Malinga
While Sri Lanka may make two changes today. First, Jeevan Mendis could return to the match squad in place of Dhananjaya de Silva while Isuru Udana could make way for Milinda Siriwardana.
The Men in Green outclassed hosts England in the previous encounter and hence may field an unchanged eleven.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka had lost their opening encounters by handsome margins but they bounced back in the second game to register their first victories of the 2019 World Cup.
Pakistan has always been the better team when the two teams meet at the World Cup but the Sri Lankan team will be keen to end that streak today.
