Commentary

Perth Scorchers Women beat Sydney Thunder Women by 81 runs

Perth Scorchers have bossed the encounter completely with match-winning performances from Sophie Devine, Beth Mooney and Alana King. Let us not forget their effort in the fielding.
Sydney Thunder after winning the toss put Scorchers in to bat and were soon found to regret that decision as the Scorchers' openers took them apart. The start was steady with Mooney and Devine seeing off the powerplay and cashed in later on as they took advantage of the heavy breeze on the leg side.
The no.1 batter in the world just proved yet again why she is at the pinnacle of her powers. She picked her bowlers to score off with Smith and Johnson being her bunny. Mooney on the other hand provided the support Devine needed and brought her fifty up simultaneously but the star of the show Devine scored her 3rd WBBL century in just 58 balls. The openers got out in the 19th over putting up a record 173 for the first wicket. And that was the second-highest in the WBBL history.

As far as Syndey Thunder were concerned, they had blank faces after Devine unleashed her brilliance and with Mooney playing smart and handy, the bowlers were in despair. They just wanted it to get over with.
Sometimes, there are days when minutes seem like an hour and where every ball feels like a long 10-over spell. The chase started steadily for the Sydney Thunder when Mandhana along with Wilson looked set and was just beginning to attack ended up giving a catch at mid-wicket to Peschel.

It was just unilateral from thereon. A downward spike if we have to represent it graphically. They just fell like a house of cards with no single partnership that could get them out of the turmoil and have a shot at the target. Alana King spoiled Thunder's day even more with yet another match-winning figures of 4-11 with important scalps of Wilson, Johnson, Hall and Learoyd and she is becoming the master of spin with her craft.

And with that Perth Scorchers move to the top of the table whereas Sydney Thunder sit on the exact opposite of the spectrum.

Sophie Devine (Player of the match): (on her mindset through the innings) Look we knew the opening partnership would be really key so we worked through the powerplay me and Moons (Mooney) and we knew we could cash in with a really strong breeze on the leg side and with the way it was going so very pleased to get the win today. (On batting with Mooney) She certainly brings the brain to the partnership and calmness to the crease and is just smart in terms of trying to find what bowlers are trying to do and we hope it can only get better. (On Alana King's bowling) It was a complete performance from our bowling group and exactly worked out what we were trying to do and we have to make sure we are consistent because you can't have peaks and troughs in this competition and work to be sustainable. (On her third WBBL century) Well would like to continue this form in the international circuit as well but I just this (WBBL) is just a fantastic competition and certainly really privileged to be able to come here and ply my trade sp really thankful for WBBL Perth Scorchers

The trouble ends for the Thunder as they lose another match, this time against Perth Scorchers and what an utterly dominating performance from them after having put them in to bat.
