If you had told some ten days back that the Royals will not finish in the top two and RCB will sneak through to the playoffs, not many would have taken you seriously. But that is just what has happened. The Royals would rue the fact that their last game produced no result, but their fate was always in their hands. After a dominant run in the first half of the season, their campaign went completely off the track with four back-to-back losses. One may wonder if the team peaked too early as it quite often happens. The last season was not a lot different for the Samson-led side. They have got a lot of challenges as they prepare for the Eliminator. Jos Buttler has flown back, and with Yashasvi Jaiswal not really lighting up the tournament so far, the top doesn't look great. And the middle-order, with the exception of Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, haven't produced the goods consistently. The brittle looking batting order will have to produce back-to-back dominating performances to get a shot at that trophy.
Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, have deservedly finished at the top of the table. They have looked a well oiled unit throughout the season. The rejuvenation of Sunil Narine, both with the bat and with the ball, has really helped their course. Phil Salt was a game-changer at the top, but they would hope that Rahmatullah Gurbaz can give them good starts in the business end of the tournament. It has been a true team effort from them, with different players putting up their hands on different occasions. With five wins on the bounce, Shreyas Iyer and his boys will be full of confidence going into that Qualifier.
The Royals are walking around the ground, thanking the fans who have stayed back in the hope of seeing a game. Riyan Parag, the home boy, couldn't sign off the season at Guwahati. He is throwing a pair of gloves to the fans.
The result seemed inevitable for some time now. There was a glimmer of hope when the rain relented for sometime. Even the toss happened only for the rain to return soon. So the last league game of the 2024 IPL season has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. It means Sunrisers Hyderabad finish second behind Kolkata Knight Riders and they will play in Qualifier 1. Rajasthan Royals finish third in the table and will meet Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator.

10:50pm IST: It's handshakes all round by the umpires. Shreyas and Sanju run into the ground and that is it. The game has been abandoned. RR have to settle for the third spot with that.
10:42pm IST: Remember, the cut off time is at 10:55pm IST and we still have about ten minutes for the first ball to happen, but the rain has other ideas. The pitch is firmly still under the covers though!
10:35pm: Oh dear, the rain is back and it's drizzling as we were just getting ready for the first ball. The covers are being brought back on and that might just be it, let's wait what's the official update soon!
The match will start at 10:45 p.m. It will be a 7-over per side game. Three bowlers can bowl 2 overs each. There won't be any time-outs.
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals captain): Would have bowled first. This pitch looks a bit better compared to the last one we played on. It was a bit dry, but this one has more moisture. We have made some last minute changes. Nandre Burger might come in.
Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): We will bowl first. It's a 7 over game. No idea how the wicket will play out. The outfield is definitely wet. Anukul Roy comes in.

10:25pm IST: From the live visuals, both the umpires are walking around that outfield area which is the main concern as it wasn't covered during the rain. But hopefully the super soppers would've got the job done to have a five over shootout soon.
10:10pm IST: The main covers are being taken out now but the real problem is, there are areas in the outfield with puddles, but it's being sopped out at the moment. With that, the next inspection is scheduled at 10:25pm IST! Fingers crossed!
10:05pm IST: The match has to begin latest by 10:56 p.m. to constitute a five-over shootout. For that, the toss has to take place at 10:40 p.m. We are racing against time now!
10:00pm IST: Some great news coming from the middle. The rain has eased out for now, the covers are being peeled off the square as well. Super sopper are out there in full force. Some RR players are out there in the ground as well. Let's hope we have better news coming our way in a bit!
