What a magnificent year this has been. Like always, we witnessed the arrival of new heroes to the scene and also saw some of the stars fade away. It started with eight teams going head to head and MI topped the table. Today, on the biggest stage, the final, against all the odds, MI defended the least amount of runs on the board and from now till the next season, they will be the reigning champions of the IPL and their fans will be drenched in the celebratory mood. All they did in the end was - BELIEVE.
Well, MI have lifted it the most number of times and Rohit Sharma becomes the first captain to win the IPL for the third time. He lifts the trophy and he is joined by his players and off goes the fireworks and the decoratives.
Rohit Sharma says, "It was quite nervous and was expecting them to do it. We have a great set of bowlers and we did it. We stuck to our plans and we knew the wickets weren't easy. We wanted to make runs and get close to 150. A lot of credit to bowling unit. Absolutely great to have Malinga and Bumrah on your side. We had a great set of bowlers and they did it. Not to forget Mitchell Johnson's last over as well. The best game to be part of was this final. The last two were good but today was the best."
Steve Smith says, "That is a hard one to swallow. Incredible to make it to the final against a quality side like Mumbai. It was a tough wicket and we didn't win. Mitchell, Malinga, and Bumrah along with the spinners were brilliant. It has been fantastic. I like to thank the RPS staff and management for the opportunity and I have enjoyed it. It was great fun to captain the side and play some good cricket but disappointing to lose."

Time for some presentations.
Johnson picked up three big wickets of Rahane, Tiwary and in the end, the wicket of Smith that spurred way for MI to win this encounter. RPS will have to take heart from the fact that they came so close on a pitch that was not easy to score easily. At the end of the day, one team has to lose and it was Pune's turn.
RPS were cruising comfortably to the finish line until the MI bowlers kept things tight at both ends and pegged RPS back with wickets at crunch situations.

Well, talk about yorkers and up pops Lasith Malinga. He gave away just 21 runs in his spell of 4 overs. And now finally, we have to talk about Mitchell Johnson.
"Batsmen win you matches and bowlers win you tournaments." Well for MI, it was the bowlers who performed impressively right from the start and particularly in the Qualifier 2 and now the finals. Jasprit Bumrah is totally on a different level. He is probably one of those 'once in a generation' bowlers.
But we need to feel for RPS as well. Seventh place last year and against all the odds, they reached the final on their first go. They defeated MI in Qualifier 1 but raced to the final, and today, a round of applause for their bowlers. They gave to RPS batsmen a mere 130 runs to chase.
Just 129 runs to defend and MI have done the impossible task. It was always a daunting task. They kept believing in themselves and MI have underlined why they were at the top of the table in IPL 2017. Champion stuff this.
Look at the scenes here. The jubilation is amazing to watch. And in 3 years, MI have won 2 titles and this win denies back to back tournament wins for Australian captains.
Mumbai Indians! What a spectacular way to win the title. Simply sensational. From where on earth did they pull this off? Take a bow and take your third title! MI beat RPS by 1 run.
