Well, it ended up being quite one-sided in the end, and it was a much-needed victory for the home side. That's all from us today, we will be back tomorrow for the double header. Thank you and good night!
RCB move to fifth on the table, while KXIP remain fourth
Umesh Yadav: I was backing myself and my strengths, bowling quick at the stumps. Whatever you want, you do it is what Kohli and the coach tells. They want me to bowl with pace and attack the stumps, and not worry about the variations. This pitch was slow; Kolkata pitch was quick, where the back of a length ball was kicking. I think I enjoyed Yuvraj Singh's wicket the most.
Virat Kohli: Very happy. First home game is crucial. Last year, we couldn't get off to a start. Crowd has a lot of expectations, and tonight was a game we wanted badly, especially in the initial stages of the tournament. We knew new ball will come on nicely, and the batsmen hit some good shots. Umesh bowled well; getting three wickets in an over is great. Our mindset is - we want our best bowlers to step up and get confident early on. When only five are playing, you have to hit your areas well. They have done well. I think 170 would have been par. (The pitch is) slightly better than the last year but against the older ball, middle overs can be difficult. We have lost two wickets in two balls in the last two games, so we have to work on them. Maybe stitch a little partnership. Back to back wickets pushes you back in the eight ball.
Here is what R Ashwin had to say after the match: "I am really proud of the way the boys fought. Always thought we had our backs against the wall because we were about 20-30 short. Still we fought hard and I am proud of the guys. (If the toss is crucial this season) Cannot always depend on the tosses, tournaments are won on good performances. (Whether the RCB top order is intimidating) Not that intimidating to be honest, pressure is on them actually due to their reputations. I thought our boys did well by putting in a good effort. (If KXIP are spin-heavy) I think the best bowlers are still going to be the best ones. This wicket wasn't exactly great for spin bowling with the dew around but we showed them what we are capable of. At the end of the day, good bowlers are still good bowlers"
WOOF! That was an anti-climax, wasn't it?

The RCB bowling unit did brilliantly after Umesh Yadav ripped through Punjab's top order; and while Punjab kept pulling RCB's mighty batting unit back now and then - that ball from Mujeeb to an on-form Virat Kohli stands out - AB De Villiers decided enough was enough in the 17th over... and by the end, Washington Sundar kept his head to dispatch some poor bowling from Mohit Sharma to a couple of boundaries.

That, then, is very much that - RCB win by 4 wickets, deservedly so!
20.0
RCB win by 4 wickets. First win for them this year
19.3 Mohit Sharma to Washington, FOUR! That's the match for RCB. What a way to finish the match. Slapped through the off side through cover for a boundary
19.2 Mohit Sharma to Washington, no run. Slow and outside off, almost a wide. Sundar fails to connect.
19.1 Mohit Sharma to Washington, FOUR!! That should be the game for RCB! Short and gave him a little bit of width, Washington slices it over the keeper for a four
5 needed from 6
18.6 Tye to Woakes, no run. Great ball by Tye! Quick and outside off, Woakes looks for a single to third man but fails to connect
18.5 Tye to Washington, 1 run. Length ball outside off, Sundar gets it to sweeper cover for a single
18.4 Tye to Mandeep, 1 run, OUT! RUN OUT is Mandeep. They take on the same fielder again and Dagar gets the throw right this time. Needless double, that. Should have stuck to the single
18.3 Tye to Mandeep, 2 runs. Full toss and Mandeep nudges it to long on. It was a risky double but they managed to get the runs. Mayank Dagar was the fielder
18.2 Tye to Woakes, 1 run. length delivery on the legs, Woakes flicked it to the leg side and gets a single. was in the air for a while
18.1 Tye to de Villiers, OUT! Short delivery outside off, ABD looks to smash it over deep point for a six, but it ends up being an easy catch for Karun Nair. That was not needed. However, he did the job for RCB
Over 18 RCB: 146/4(RR 8.11) Bowler: M Sharma Sum..: 1 6 2 1 1 1
17.6 Mohit Sharma to de Villiers, 1 run. Good yorker but AB manages to squeeze it out to deep sqaure leg for a single
17.5 Mohit Sharma to Mandeep, 1 run. Mandeep looked to heave it for a six but doesn't connect properly and gets a single instead.
17.4 Mohit Sharma to de Villiers, 1 run. Slightly full and AB looked to go on the leg side but changed his mind in the end and guided it down to long off for a single
17.3 Mohit Sharma to de Villiers, 2 runs. Length delivery on middle stump, ABD gets on one knee and guides it for a couple to long on
FIFTY UP FOR ABD! The man's switched up a gear... and he's going to take some stopping now, isn't he? Game over for KXIP?
17.2 Mohit Sharma to de Villiers, SIX!!! MASSIVE! What a player! Slightly slow and full, AB comes down and smacks it over long on for a massive six
17.1 Mohit Sharma to Mandeep, 1 run. Yorker, and Mandeep managed to get bat on it for a single to cover
Over 17 RCB: 134/4(RR 7.88) Bowler: M U Rahman Sum..: 1 1 4 1 6 6
16.6 Mujeeb to de Villiers, SIX!!!! HUGGE!!! WOOOOOF! The earlier shot forced Mujeeb to drop it shorter, AB reads it like an open book and carts it over mid-wicket
16.5 Mujeeb to de Villiers, SIX!!!!! It's in the zone, just outside off and De Villiers smashes it over, literally right over, deep mid-off
16.4 Mujeeb to Mandeep, 1 run. HAH! Mujeeb and ABD clash as the young man scrambles to recover his fumble - from Mandeep's straight drive. But no worries, the Protea completes his run without much fuss
