So, that is a damp squib if ever there was one. RCB desperately needed the points, but the rain gods decided they would render the new drainage system at the Chinnaswamy useless, by persistently pouring down all evening. RCB and SRH share the points tonight. Do join us tomorrow as two in-form teams clash at the MCA stadium. It is Rising Pune Supergiant v Kolkata Knight Riders. Until then, it is goodbye from us. Good night!
The match has officially been called off
It is bucketing down now at the Chinnaswamy. Looks like RCB and SRH are sharing points tonight.
Just reminding you, the cut-off time for a five-over shootout is 11.26pm. If the rain relents in the next 10-15 minutes, there is a shot of that happening. Even if we had started out now, possibly the maximum number of overs could have been 12 or 13 per innings.
The drizzle that was around at the scheduled start time might not have been enough to send the players to the pavilion, had the game already started. But the rules are such that you cannot start a game in rain. Also when the umpires take the players off for rain, they would have to wait for it to completely stop before the players came back out on to the field.
Still raining at the Chinnaswamy. Still raining around Bengaluru, so it does not look good for RCB who desperately need the points from this game.
It is still raining folks. This is frustrating, I know, but it is what it is!
This wait is getting frustrating now. No news at all from the Chinnaswamy. But I can tell you from where I am, that I am in the middle of a pretty heavy thunderstorm.
21:18 IST: No new update yet, but where I am, which is around 10km from the Chinnaswamy, it isn't raining right now. But we're still waiting for an update from the Chinnaswamy.
20:55 IST: We will lose overs from 9pm. The latest from the ground is that the umpires are out for a preliminary inspection, before the covers have been taken off. There is still rain in the air though.
20:40 IST: The cut-off time for a five-over-a-side game is 23:30.
The news is that it is still raining, and it has got a little heavier in Bengaluru. No play for the next half an hour at least.
Nothing has changed at the Chinnaswamy so far. As soon as something has, we will bring it you. So stay tuned.
Covers still on, protecting the entire square at the Chinnaswamy.
It continues to rain in Bengaluru, just about enough to stop the cricket.
No problem about losing overs just yet. The game can start as late as 9pm and we will still have a full 20-over game.
And now, an interview with Sreenath Aravind, that has definitely been shot when the floodlights had taken full effect. Just that kind of day.
This kind of rain is possibly the most annoying kind. The host broadcaster just telecasted an interview with Bhuvneshwar Kumar from the ground itself. It was maybe shot earlier, but it has been raining since early evening in Bengaluru. So the rain cannot be too heavy.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has taken rapid strides towards a glitch-free drainage system.

Here is what they have done:
Actually, it might be delayed a little further, because the rain is back in Bengaluru. This is the typical annoying Bengaluru showers that don't give you the satisfaction of it having rained, but it stops the cricket.
The toss has been delayed by 10 minutes at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
If the rain Gods do decide to intervene, I think a lot of copy-editors would have saved time thinking of a headling; "Rain ruins RCB redemption"
There has been rain in the air through the evening in Bengaluru. But right now, the ground and the pitch are free of the covers and the players ARE warming up.
10 minutes to go for the toss. RCB would dearly love to win that. They will take any kind of victory they can get, after that disastrous night at Eden Gardens. This is time for RCB redemption and it starts tonight at their den, the Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru.
Venue: M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore
Match Start Time: Tuesday, April 25, 2017, 08:00 PM IST
