Narayan Jagadeesan (Chepauk Super Gillies captain): I enjoyed it a lot because when they told me they're giving me captaincy I felt very happy. I was looking forward to the extra responsibility. (On Pradosh) He batted on a different level. The positions he got into were amazing. The best part was he played risk-free cricket. The strategy was very simple - don't think about what the batters are going to do and just focus on your strengths as a bowler. Those little contributions from Apar, Harish and Sanjay Yadav really helped. When you have those experienced players it gives you that extra cushion. Apar bowled four overs on the trot and Rahil Shah bowled two at the death. You never say no to experience and the best part is they are ready to bowl at any stage for the team.

Abhishek Tanwar (Salem Spartans captain): I have to take the blame. To bowl four no balls in the last over as a captain and senior player is unacceptable. But it's okay it happens. The wind was very strong from one side. As a fast-bowler you need a lot of momentum and it was easier from the other side. (On the batting order) We were planning this from the beginning - we have too many openers but in the coming games we will sort it out.

Pradosh Ranjan Paul is undoubtedly the Player of the Match for his superb knock of 88. Here's what he has to say: I enjoyed it a lot since it's a new franchise. I have to thank the coach and the senior players who supported me a lot. Playing the Ranji Trophy and making a mark there really helped a lot. It was nice to carry that confidence forward and leave a mark for the team. I've been working on my T20 game in the last three months. What I used to do before was I was very clouded in my head. This time I'm very clear about what to do. I've played a lot of club cricket with him (Jagadeesan) before so I'm really enjoying it.

Rahil Shah (Chepauk Super Gillies): (On joining CSG) It's been fantastic. They're the defending champions and to come here has been really good. We've been putting in a lot of hard yards. They're a good bunch of lads and under Jaggi it's always going to be good. Under Hemang Badani as well. We're gelling well. Our plan was simple - come and bowl to our strengths and bowl to our plans. And it almost worked. Spin is going to be our strength throughout the tournament. Hopefully the fast-bowlers step in as well. I think it (the pitch) remained the same. You just had to vary our pace as a spinner.

A comprehensive victory for the defending champions and they outplayed the Salem Spartans in all three departments. With this, they open their account in their season opener itself.

Arriving for a mammoth chase of 218 runs, the Spartans lost wickets early. To some surprise, Kaushik Gandhi didn’t open the batting while Amith Satvik marched along with Akash Sumra. They lost two wickets inside the powerplay itself and was under pressure right away.

Baba Aparajith was introduced early and it worked well in favor for the Super Gilles. The spinners controlled the flow of runs in the middle overs with regular wickets. B Rocky, the impact sub made a vivid impact in the game.

Just when things went out of the equation for the Spartans, Muhammad Adnan Khan arrived as a surprise package with the willow in hand. He blasted off 47 runs from mere 15 balls, including four sixes in the 19th over against Rohit Ramalingam.

A complete bowling effort helped the Super Gillies defend the run with ease.

Previously, the Super Gillies racked up 217 runs on the back of fantastic top-order batting. The opening duo- Narayan Jagadeesan and Pradosh Ranjan Paul chalked up 91 runs for the first wicket. It was followed by another cumulative stand between B Aparajith and the southpaw.

Pradosh went on to amuse 88 runs off 55 balls and some lusty blows from the lower middle-order helped them post a hefty total. Also, it is worth mentioning that the Spartans’ skipper - Abhishek Tanwar made some school-level mistakes and leaked 26 runs off the final over. He spilled five extras which included four no-balls- two of which were bowled.
