That would be all from the coverage of this Test. Do join us for the coverage of the second Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies which starts on Monday. But there is plenty of cricket action happening around the globe and Sportskeeda is your one destination to catch all the action. For now, it is time to say goodbye!
Sri Lanka take 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. The win was built around a solid batting performance from the skipper Dimuth Karunaratne who scored 147 in the first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 61 and as a result, Sri Lanka posted 386 in their first innings. There was already a fair indication that the pitch would turn as Roston Chase picked 5 wickets. West Indies could only muster 230 in their first innings as Praveen Jayawickrama picked 4/40 and Rames Mendis bowled a spell of 3/75.

Karunaratne again led Sri Lanka's batting in the second innings with a knock of 83 and was well supported by Angelo Mathews who made 69. As a result, Sri Lanka made 191/4 before they declared setting West Indies a target of 347. West Indies' top order crumbled once more this time Lasith Embuldeniya did all the damage as he picked 4 quick wickets. Embuldeniya's spin twin Rames Mendis then joined the party and was amongst the wickets too. West Indies were struggling at 18/6 when Joshua Da Silva and Nkrumah Bonner kickstarted a fightback. The two batters played patiently and stitched together a partnership of 100 runs. The partnership gave West Indies some hope that they could save the Test match. But once Da Silva departed, there was little resistance from the remaining batters as West Indies folded on 160. Bonner remained not out on 68 and yet again proved that he has the game and the skills to become a good Test match batter.
Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne is the Player of the Match. Karunaratne scored 147 in Sri Lanka's first inning which was followed by 83 in the second innings.

Dimuth Karunaratne:
It is a great Test for me. I played Test after a long time. The boys played well. The boys put their hands up. Great for me. The youngsters are gaining experience from the experienced guys. Angello Matthews and Dinesh Chandimal are experienced guys. The last couple of months it has rained heavily so we wanted to play with two pacers. We wanted to look at the weather and the pitch and then pick the team. When you play well it is easy to carry the form. I have done so many things. I have a few targets to achieve.
Kraigg Brathwaite, West Indies captain: Josh and Bonner batted well since yesterday. We don't do well here in Sri Lanka. We let ourselves down. The toss was crucial. Bowlers were good especially the fast bowlers. Gabriel picked the wickets. But we let ourselves down with our batting in the first innings. But we should learn from our mistakes.
We are ready for the Presentaion
The win in this Test helps Sri Lanka go on the top of the table of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23.
Sri Lanka were getting edgy with rain approaching fast towards the ground. But the hosts managed to pick the final wicket in nick of time to win the match. And as the players walk off the field shaking hands we see the ground staff rushing on the field with thick covers as it has started to drizzle a bit. And it has now started raining properly. West Indies were so close to getting help from the rain God but they have themselves to blame! But in being critical let us not forget the valiant effort on Nkrumah Bonner who faced 216 balls for his 64 and almost bailed West Indies out of trouble.

78.6 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, OUT! CAUGHT AT SLIP! IT'S ALL OVER! Embuldeniya has five too! Flighted into a good length on middle and off, Gabriel hangs back to nudge it into the leg-side as the ball turns ever so slightly to catch the edge towards DDS at slip who makes no mistake to his left. After a long toil on the final day, Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 187 runs to go 1-0 up in the series!
78.5 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, flighted full at the stumps, Gabriel lunges forward with a solid stride to offer a nigh on dead bat.
78.4 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, full outside off, tossed up and Gabriel brings out another stride to defend it with an angled bat.
78.3 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, tossed up on middle and leg, Gabriel lunges forward in line with the ball to defend it back to the bowler.
78.2 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, flighted full outside off, Gabriel leans forward again and keeps it out in front of silly point.
78.1 Lasith Embuldeniya to Shannon Gabriel, tossed up full at the stumps, Gabriel lunges forward to defend it with care towards short leg.
Embuldeniya to bowl.
Four runs off the over. Interesting to note that Bonner decided to go down the track on the last ball of the over and hit it for a four. This means Gabriel will be on strike at the start of the next over. Also, the rain could also now come into factor as it is getting close to the ground with each passing over! Nervy moments from Sri Lanka.

77.6 Ramesh Mendis to Nkrumah Bonner, FOUR! Steps down the track and launches it straight over the bowler's head to pick out the ropes over long off. Sri Lanka won't mind though!
