And that's the weekend folks! Quite a lot happened, eh? Virat Kohli got a half-century after a while, Rahul Tewatia finished another game, Mumbai Indians got off the mark, Lucknow Super Giants consolidated their position in the upper echelons of the table and MS Dhoni returned to captain CSK who keep their campaign alive. Phew! But now - we don't have much time to catch a breath. When Ruturaj Gaikwad bats well, Chennai Super Kings sleep well (more often than not at least)! Their fans will be hoping that this is the start of a purple patch that has eluded him for large swathes of this tournament. A crucial couple of points for the defending champions as they keep their campaign alive. They must get on a roll though and iron out the flaws with regards to their bowling and catching in particular. Next up are their other southern rivals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, at this very venue on Wednesday (May 4). Two losses on the trot for the Sunrisers Hyderabad but that's how the campaign began for them too, remember, before they got into a winning run. They'll be hoping for much the same once they step into the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday (May 5) to face the Delhi Capitals.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the Player of the Match for his flamboyant 99 off 57 deliveries.

Gaikwad: It felt good. More good that it has come in a winning cause. We are struggling in getting a winning momentum so this knock feels better. There will be times where you get one or two good deliveries and you'll be unlucky here or there. It happens in T20 cricket. Personally I don't believe in form because each and every game you start from zero. I believe in starting from zero in each game and it helps. I like to play more pace since I feel it brings the best out of me. There are some balls where the bowlers don't have much of an upper hand. I have three or four balls on hand in the over. That's the thought process because not every bowler bowls that short and that fast enough. Obviously a lot of thought process but I've worked on it. (On his partnership with Devon Conway) I was just telling him to take his time since it's his second game. Since this is my home ground I told him to keep going with his strokes and it would get better. I was just telling him to stay calm.

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings Captain): Well I think it was a very good score to start off. When you put up that kind of a score, it becomes easier for the bowlers to defend. When you're in the same dressing room you say the same thing. It's not as though if you change the captain you change things. It's one of those coincidences where you get a good start and the bowlers hit the right areas. We needed some good bowling since some dew sets in later in the evening. The phase that was good for us was when the spinners came in. There was some hold in the surface. I knew it wouldn't last for long so we had to get them done with soon. With dew it becomes slightly easier and it's not as though the opposition cannot chase it. We've had quite a few good batting performances. But we have given a couple of overs where we've gone for 25-26 runs. Even when you put up 200, it then comes down to 180 in 19 overs. I don't mind getting hit for runs but I want us to try something different, try a yorker maybe. I always tell my bowlers that you may get hit for four sixes in an over, but those one or two deliveries can save the game. I don't know if they believe in that theory or not but I feel it works. Right from the very start, between me and Jadeja...he knew last season itself that he will get a chance to captain this year. I wanted that transition to happen so in the first two games there was a bit of information going to Jaddu. But after that I left it to him because at the end of 7 games you don't want him to feel that the captaincy was done by someone else and he just went for the toss. So I decided that in the first couple of games I will help with the field placements and changes but thereafter I felt no, he has to learn on his own. (On how the captaincy change transpired) Once you become the captain you have to take care of a lot of things and that also includes taking care of your own game. It's not easy to control your mind. You can take care of your body but once your mind starts working and you know what combination to field and changes to make, it doesn't stop. Even when he closes your eyes to sleep it keeps thinking. I felt it was having an impact on his game as well when he was going to bat. I would love to have Jadeja as a bowler, a batter and a fielder. Captainship, fair enough; even if you are relieved of captainship and if you are at your best that's what I really want because we are also losing a great deep mid-wicket fielder. We have dropped 17-18 catches I know (laughs). Hopefully we will come back strong, there are a few new bowlers who are learning. Bravo or Pretorius know what to do. For the younger bowlers you have to tell them what to do, this is the field etc. It's a lonely place as well since once you have the ball in hand you are all alone. Once you mature you will get better. It's good to see Mukesh doing well with the new ball. In under-age cricket you can get away with a few things but here you can't. You have to accept the shortcomings, unless you do that the process of overcoming it becomes tough.

Mukesh Choudhary: We had not taken a wicket till the fifth over and I took a chance to extract a wicket. I put the dropped catch behind me and thought to myself that I had to take a wicket here. (On Bravo's absence) There was more responsibility to take wickets in the powerplay so that it is easier for the spinners in the middle overs. Bravo helps us a lot in the field with valuable inputs and yesterday, he told me various plans to execute. (On the last over) MS told me to bowl six legal deliveries. I tried to bowl some variations but MS told me there are a lot of runs in the bag and to just bowl legal deliveries to finish the match and not try anything fancy.

Kane Williamson (Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain): I suppose when you get over 200, there is a real challenge while chasing. At the end of the day, they played really well, put us under pressure and got a good total on the board. Lots of positives for us to take away from this game. It was a little slower tonight - we tried our best to adjust and losing Washington and Natarajan for the best part of the innings hurt us. There were lots of positives in the chase, the pitch was slow. At the end of the day, it is important that we take the positives and move on to the next one. You just want to touch on a few matters and move on. For us, it's keeping our performance consistent and hopefully we can build on this performance.

Chennai Super Kings 202/2 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 99 off 57, T Natarajan 2/42 off 2 overs) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 189/6 in 20 overs (Nicholas Pooran 64* off 33, Mukesh Choudhary 4/46 off 4 overs) by 13 runs.

They were given a real scare were the Chennai Super Kings. The pitch was slightly on the slower side according to Ruturaj Gaikwad halfway through the contest but his own innings and the start the Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to certainly made us question the same.

Abhishek Sharma continued to take giant strides in this tournament with a blistering start in the Powerplay. Kane Williamson too got off the blocks quickly and with 46 off the first 4 overs, the chase was well and truly on. Mukesh Choudhary shelled a sitter, but returned to make amends with back-to-back wickets to round off the Powerplay.

And that's when things began to slow down. Ravindra Jadeja got the ball to grip and hold in the surface, indicating that the pitch did have some assistance for the slower bowlers. Aiden Markram looked to break the shackles as the asking rate shot up but he perished to a long hop. Williamson slowing down didn't help the Sunrisers' cause though and a certain Maheesh Theekshana was persistent in attacking the stumps through his four-over spell.

CSK's catching this season has been - let's be honest - abysmal! But their ground fielding tonight was quite outstanding, with the likes of Dwaine Pretorius, Simarjeet Singh and Devon Conway throwing themselves around the park and saving valuable runs. Williamson was trapped dead in front and when Shashank Singh failed to get going, the writing was on the wall.

Choudhary returend to scalp two more but took some tap in the final over as Nicholas Pooran reduced the margin of defeat by a considerable margin. A few runs too many though towards the back end of the innings, which was a result of some tight bowling on the part of Theekshana in particular, as well as the run rate slowing down. The slowness of the surface didn't help SRH either but they will have to look back at their bowling performance - twice in two games now that they've bowled all over the place, despite the absence of Washington Sundar, who injured himself on the park today.

He does wrap it up by aiming for the blockhole but jeez, what an exhibition that was from Nicky P! Alas for the Sunrisers, they left far too many to get in the slog overs although their net run rate does not take a hit. Big result for the defending champions though - Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs!

19.5 Mukesh Choudhary to Nicholas Pooran, SIX! UNREAL STUFF! A slower full ball outside off, Pooran gets down on one knee, chases after it and slices that over the point region for a huge maximum! How has he managed to send that ver the rope? Sheer power!

Pooran is ensuring the margin of defeat isn't a daunting one. A tough test this for Mukesh Choudhary even though the game is in the bag.

19.4 Mukesh Choudhary to Nicholas Pooran, SIX! DISPATCHED! MUSCLED! Oh wow! Short of a length ball on the middle stump line, lacks venom and sits up nicely for Pooran, who swivels and pulls that over the backward square leg region for a huge maximum!
