That's it from the second WBBL game of the day, Sixers win it comfortably and enter the Finals, as Hurricanes wait for the result of the last game to see who will be their opponent in the Eliminator. Rain has spoiled play in Victoria as the Heats and Stars share points. The Strikers need to win with a good net run rate to go second and qualify for the Challenger. Stay tuned at Sportskeeda as that game will start soon now. This is Divyansh, signing off on the behalf of my co-commentator, Bidipto. Goodbye, stay well.
Kate Peterson: The bowling was good today again and it's great to make the most the opportunities that I get. It has been wonderful to work with coach Charlotte Edwards, her experience and her wealth of knowledge is always to pick on. I am definitely looking forward to play the final and perform, it is a fantastic feeling to be honest.
Player of the Match, Ellyse Perry: It is wonderful to have such a wonderful atmosphere out here at the North Sydney Oval! The wind did play a role in our tactics today but I suppose that is the challenge to relish at different venues with different conditions. This was an important game for us to get the momentum going into the final, glad that we have done that. It is a privilege to play with a tremendous group of players, I have to say. The tournament thus far has been brilliant, and I hope that the crowd turns up in numbers to watch the final next week.
Match Summary-
Sydney Sixers win by 8 wickets and 7 balls to spare.
Perry and Gardner finish the chase comfortably as they get a 88 run partnership together. Sixers finish their group stage on a high and they sit comfortably at the top and in the finals, and will wait for the result of the Eliminator and the Challenger. Hurricanes needed a win, but they will play the Eliminator now against the Heats or the Strikers.
Sixers did really well to restrict the Hurricanes under 160, and then their top order did the job. Bates and Healy provided a quick fire start, but Healy got out in the 7th over after a partnership of 47 runs with Bates. Bates also got a start but could not stay on as she got out in the 10th over with just 69 on the board.
They needed 88 from there as Gardner came to the crease, after that it was a well constructed innings from her and Perry. They chose the perfect time to get the power surge as well and get ahead of the required run rate. Gardner was almost caught behind in the surge overs, but the third umpire thought it hit the ground before going into Lee's hand. Perry got to her half century in the end and Gardner played a brilliant 45 run innings as they both stayed unbeaten going over the line.
Only Jensen and Johnston took a wicket but they both were expensive, so were the other bowlers. Strano was economical with justv24 runs from her 4 overs. They need to do much better in the Eliminator now.
18.5 Ruth Johnston to Ashleigh Gardner, SYDNEY SIXERS WOMEN WIN! 23 POINTS IN THE LEAGUE STAGE FOR THE TEAM IN MAGENTA! Fuller on off, and this is clipped easily to long-on off the front foot, on the charge, for a single to finish the match!
18.4 Ruth Johnston to Ashleigh Gardner, SIX RUNS! Fuller and loopy outside off, Gardner steps out and SMASHES this over wide long-off from a thick inside edge for a MAXIMUM!
18.3 Ruth Johnston to Ellyse Perry, full toss on leg, this drops on Perry as she tries to slog-sweep, and it gets inside edged down to deep backward square-leg for one.
18.2 Ruth Johnston to Ellyse Perry, FOUR! Good length ball down leg and this is swept hard to long-leg, for a gap-finding boundary!
18.1 Ruth Johnston to Ashleigh Gardner, over the wicket, short on the legs, an attempted pull on the back foot, and only a run as a leg-bye to square-leg.
Ruth Johnston, (3.0-0-18-1) is back into the attack.
Strano with a tidy over as Perry gets to her half century. Even a 5 run over is good enough for the Sixers as they need just 13 runs from the last 2 overs.
