There is something special brewing up in the New Zealand-UAE encounter. Follow all the action live right here. Thanks for sticking around during this frustrating break. This is Soorya and Bala signing off. Good night!
We did see a salute before the proceedings ended prematurely, but the fans are certainly left wanting for more action. We have the second match of the day coming up at 04:30 a.m. IST in which the Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on the St. Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium. Do join us for that.
Unfortunate end to the proceedings in the end. We had the sun out for quite some time, but the wet patches in the outfield meant that the conditions weren't safe enough to restart the proceedings. And as we neared the time for the inspection, the rain returned once again forcing the officials to call the match off.
It was the first game of the season for both the Knight Riders and the Patriots. Both sides would have been keen to kickstart the tournament with a convincing performance, but it was not meant to be. The teams have opened their account for the season with a point each.
Match has been called off! Well, then. We have some unfortunate news coming in. The rain returned and the outfield is not good enough for the play to restart on time. Both sides will share a point each.
So we continue to wait but there's more cricketing action to keep a tab of - Qualifier 2 of the Lanka Premier League is on as we speak. Head over here as Galle Titans and B-Love Kandy fight it out for a spot in tomorrow's summit clash!
We have started to lose overs. The latest the match can start is 13:27 local time, which is just less than a couple of hours away.
11:33 local time, 21:03 IST: The umpires have completed their inspection but there remains some work to be done with the outfield. The super-soppers are at work and at this point, we continue to wait further. The covers remain completely out of sight though and there's no sign of rain so that's good. The next update will be at 12:40 PM local time so it's safe to say we're going to lose a fair number of overs here!
11:09 local time, 20:39 IST: The covers are off in entirety. Things are looking good and we should get going again any moment now.
10:50 local time, 20:20 IST: They are peeling off the covers. But it might take some time to dry the wet patches in the outfield.
10:44 local time, 20:14 IST: Better news - the covers are coming off! Things are looking a lot better but it remains to be seen as to how quickly we get going.
10:34 local time, 20:04 IST: Good news folks - the rain has stopped. But there's plenty of work to be done to get the ground fit for a resumption. Keep your fingers crossed and hope that it isn't too far away folks!
Meanwhile, you can head over here to catch up on our coverage of the 2nd T20I between the UAE and New Zealand. Must say it's not looking good for the Blackcaps...
10:30 local time, 20:00 IST: It's not looking good at this point. Lots of water on the covers and it's safe to say that it's going to take some time for the groundsmen to get things going once the rain stops!
10:20 local time, 19:50 IST: Ah, well, the covers are coming on! There has been rain around and it has just got a bit heavier. There is a good amount of wind around and we hope that it blows the clouds away.
Muzarabani has a wide-ish slip in place.
3.1 Blessing Muzarabani to Chadwick Walton, WIDE! Loses his line and spills it down the leg-side. Left alone!
Though there have been occasional looseners, the pacers have largely kept things tight so far. Cottrell continued to cramp Guptill for room and finally managed to sneak through the gate with a beautiful inswinger.

2.6 Sheldon Cottrell to Chadwick Walton, a touch too full as it shapes into the off stump. Walton manages to drive past the dive of extra cover before mid-off picks up as the ball doesn't take off on this slow outfield. Off the mark with a single!
2.5 Sheldon Cottrell to Chadwick Walton, full and a hint of shape outside the off stump. Walton presses forward to pat it with care to cover
