A fine display by Obed McCoy and Brandon King, ticking off some pivotal boxes for the West Indies. The hosts have stormed back in style and while it got a lot closer towards the end, these are the kind of wins that will taste a lot sweeter. India will reflect and look to take the learnings out of this contest but they will live by their brand of playing positive cricket and continue to back it, going by the words of their skipper. 1-1 now - jeez, it's set up fascinatingly alright!
Nicholas Pooran (West Indies Captain): I can finally breathe. It's been a tough summer for us. We've lost a couple of close games as well. But we bowled very well at the death. The way Obed McCoy bowled was fantastic, the way Akeal bowled as well. We used the wind really well. We're very happy with the win. (On himself at 3 and Hetmyer at 4) I believe that thorughout the 20 overs the better batters have to bat maximum overs. Come tomorrow, myself and Hettie will have to take responsibility. Brandon King batted really well today. I felt he should have won the game for us but he will learn from this. Devon Thomas getting an opportunity coming back from a couple of injuries, it was great to see. (On McCoy's spell) He's a bit of a freak - today he was fantastic. He was just expressing himself. He got enough wickets for us with those full and wide ones. It's lovely to have him in the team and it's lovely to have a left-arm option as well.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): Firstly it wasn't enough runs on the board. We didn't bat well. The pitch played quite nicely but we didn't apply ourselves. That can happen - I've been mentioning it again and again that when you're trying to do something as a batting unit you will not succeed always. Games like these, we will learn and do better. It's all about giving opportunities to these guys. We know what Bhuvneshwar Kumar brings to the table for us. But if you don't give opportunities to guys like Avesh and Arshdeep you will never find out what they can do for India. They've been doing it for their IPL franchises but international cricket is a different ball game. They don't need to panic - they have the skills and the talent, it's about backing them and giving the right opportunity. That's something I'm really proud of - when you're defending a target, either it can get over in 13-14 overs or you drag it until the last ball. That's what we did. We kept fighting and we spoke about ways to get wickets. Whatever we spoke of, the guys executed well. There are certain things that we need to look at as a batting unit but I will again say that we will continue to bat with that passion. It's about giving those guys the clarity and after one game, it's not about changing things. We will maintain the same intensity.
Obed McCoy is the Player of the Match for his six-wicket haul. Here's what he has to say: I'm doing this for my mom. She is at home and sick. That motivated me to do better. (Wickets in the powerplay) It puts pressure on the batters to come. I always try to look for wickets in the powerplay and that was the plan again. (Reason for success) I went in with a clear mind. In the previous game, I was overthinking a bit. (Executing his role at the start and death) It actually gives me a challenge and experience. It helps me grow as a player.

Who says low-scorers aren't fun? We love these low-scoring thrillers alright! A contest that was delayed by three hours owing to the non-arrival of luggage finally got underway, only for an insipid batting performance from the visitors and a masterful spell from Obed McCoy to see India skittled out for 138.

India had their task cut out in defending this target. It wasn't the easiest pitch, yet one felt that they didn't have enough to play with. A seamless Powerplay that saw Brandon King power the West Indies to 46 in that phase without getting unscathed set things up for a perfect run chase. Hardik Pandya prized out Kyle Mayers with a pie, but Nicholas Pooran wasted no time in asserting himself.

The skipper couldn't carry on though as he perished to Ravichandran Ashwin's flight. Shimron Hetmyer wasn't to have the best of outings either and even as the odd wicket fell at regular intervals, King sauntered along to a masterful half-century, making it look far too easy while he was striking it.

Pandya took to this pitch like a duck to water, attacking the stumps and keeping it very simple. The asking rate never got out of bounds although King's wicket brought the game alive again. And that's when Arshdeep Singh enhanced his reputation even further, sending down a 4-run 17th over and a sensational penultimate one, castling Rovman Powell in the process. He vaulted India back into the contest and how, possibly booking his ticket to the World Cup down under later this year.

It boiled down to 10 needed off the last over and Devon Thomas' promotion, which was looking bizarre until that point, turned into a fruitful one. The same couldn't be said about Rohit Sharma's decision to bowl Avesh Khan ahead of Bhuvneshwar Kumar though, as the lanky seamer overstepped before letting it unravel. Thomas sealed the deal for the hosts and it's 1-1 now ahead of the third contest tomorrow! Stick around for the presentation...
