Arsenal managed to grab all three points in stoppage time with a Santi Cazorla penalty. An unfortunate Petr Cech own goal had given Southampton the lead when the Czech goalkeeper tried to keep out Dusan Tadic's free-kick. But Laurent Koscielny, captaining the side on his birthday, had equalised in the first half with a bicycle kick.
The result sees Arsenal claim their second win of the season and move up to fifth for the time being. Meanwhile, Southampton are yet to win a game this season and are still struggling in the relegation zone with just two points from four games.
FULL TIME! Arsenal hold on!
96': We're past added on time and Arsenal are defending desperately now.
Santi Cazorla sends Forster to his left and finds the back of the net! 2-1 to Arsenal!
Cazorla will take the penalty for Arsenal...
Olivier Giroud is fouled by Jose Fonte who pulled his shirt and brought him down. Meanwhile, Koscielny is down on the turf following the melee in the box during the corner. Replays showed he got a boot to his face and he's been cut just below the eye.
90': Arsenal have a corner and Cazorla manages to put the ball into the danger area but Southampton clear.
89': Ozil sends in another lethal cross but Forster is simply unbeatable in the air as he calmly collects yet another ball. Wenger is frustrated on the sidelines.
85': Girooouuddd... JUST WIDE! To be fair, that was a very tough angle. Cazorla's cross into the box sees the French striker attempt a diving header that flies inches wide of the post from a narrow angle.
84': Southampton have come alive all of a sudden. Cech just about manages to keep a shot out and then kicks away the rebound shot from Long. He concedes a corner kick but the Saints fail to make any good use of it, sending it wide.
81': Arsenal win a free-kick just outside the box after Alexis is fouled. Cazorla takes it with his right foot and tries to curl it towards the far post. But Forster is up to the task and comfortably catches the ball.
80': SUBSTITUTION! Southampton make a change and Dusan Tadic is replaced by James Ward-Prowse.
79': Nachoooo... MISS! Another counter-attack sees Nacho Monreal find himself in space to get on a loose ball. But the full-back tries to shoot with his left foot and flashes it wide.
76': Arsenal throw away a chance! The ball is given away to Alexis who releases Cazorla on the right. His shot is blocked and loops over to the far post where Olivier Giroud was all set to pull the trigger before slipping on the turf.
75': SUBSTITUTION! Arsene Wenger makes his third and final sub as Theo Walcott is replaced by the young Alex Iwobi. He has 15 minutes to get a second goal.
71': Redmond tries his luck from distance and his shot would have been a goal... In American football. That shot probably hit the clock at the Emirates!
68': ALEXISSSS... IT FLIES OVER! Ozil finds the Arsenal #7 in space with ease and sends him on his way, But he can't keep his shot under the crossbar. But Forster probably had it covered too.
65': Shane Loooong...IT'S WIDE! A backheel sends Long through on goal and he tries to chip the onrushing Cech. But the ball goes harmlessly wide of the far post.
62': SUBSTITUTION! That's the end of Lucas Perez's debut as he is replaced by Olivier Giroud. Meanwhile, the Ox gives way to Alexis Sanchez. Wenger needs these three points and the Gunners have half an hour to get another goal at least.
61': Bellerinnnn... MISSES! A wild shot from the right side of the box sees a fierce shot fizz just wide of the far post.
59': Southampton crowd out another Arsenal attack and counter. But look who sprints back to make an interception. Not Koscielny, not Coquelin - it's Cazorla!
57': Yet another counter-attack from Arsenal! Cazorla spreads the ball wide before receiving the ball back from Bellerin. He takes his shot first time but it's blocked!
55': Oooh, Arsenal counter in numbers. Walcott finds Ozil in the centre with a low cross but the German's first touch deserts him and Saints clear.
54': YELLOW CARD! Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster is booked for time wasting. That pretty much tells you the Saints are happy with a point.
51': Southampton are happy to sit back and invite Arsenal to attack. All 11 players are in their own half and the Gunners are trying to break them down.
47': Ox and Lucas have been trying to combine out on the left but the Saints remain steadfast. The two players seem to be in synch - good signs for games in the future?
The second half kicks off at the Emirates.
Southampton have made a second half substitution. Jay Rodriguez has been replaced by Shane Long.
Here's a look at the overhead kick from Koscielny.
HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
Dusan Tadic's free-kick turned in by Cech gave the Saints a 1-0 lead before Laurent Koscielny's bicycle kick saw the Gunners equalise.
45': 2 minutes of stoppage time added to the end of the first half.
44': Lucas Perez tries to get on the end of a cross from the left. Both he and Virgil van Dijk go for it and that is enough for the defender to make a clearance and get a goal kick via a deflection.
42': Oxlade-Chamberlain... So close! Walcott's cross is expertly brought down by the young Englishman who turns and fires inside the box only to see his shot blocked.
41': Coquelin is living dangerously and is begging for a booking. Just when Southampton look to counter after intercepting the ball, the French midfielder launches himself into a tackle to break it up. That was very close to a yellow card.
38': The rain is making it harder for the players to get their passes in. Ozil attempts a through ball from deep inside his half but it's far too heavy and Forster collects before Arsenal can pounce.
35': 10 minutes to go in the first half. Bellerin sends a cross in and both Walcott and Perez almost make contact. Ozil eventually gets the ball but his shot is blocked.
33': Southampton are on the ropes here. Yet another set-piece troubles the Saints in the box. It's all red-and-white at the Emirates now after that goal.
