AUS vs PER Match Result - FIFA WC 2018
0 - 2
18' A. Carrillo
50' P. Guerrero
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Full time! Australia are out! France and Denmark progress! Peru can go back home happy having played some brilliant football in the tournament as well!
90+4' And still they keep the ball! Wouldn't it be wonderful if Peru can finish by keeping the ball?
90+3' Peru are keeping the ball so well here and we're seeing a few flicks and tricks as their short but impressive World Cup campaign winds down...
90+2' Denmark and France has just finished 0-0. Well, even if the Aussies score three in two minutes, they are going home.
90+1' Australia look like a beaten team here as their passes just haven't had that pizzazz. Peru can be might proud of their performance. So far, they've done what  France and Denmark couldn't do...keep them from scoring...
Four minutes will be added on...why though?
90' Brilliant challenge by Trauco on the left as he dispossesses Leckie and Peru break. They maraud forward and win a corner as Hurtado's cross deflects off Mooy
89' Peru have the ball and are doing everything to just stay away from the Aussies. Good possession play by Alberto Gareca's side...
88' Yellow card shown to Milligan for a foul on Cueva
87' Possession for Australia in the attacking half but they just can't find that final pass. Peru have been so dogged in their defending in the second half. In the end, Mooy crosses on and Gallese comes out to collect easily...
85' Irvine gets into a dangerous position again but his cross is disappointing! Peru then break and Guerrero is there on the left. He had two players to pick out but the pass is a tired looking one and Australia get it away!
84' Leckie was through on goal there after a good Irvine pass, but Advincula gets back to get the challenge in! Gallese is there to pick up the pieces and collect the ball. Pffft...
83' AH! Too high! had that gone in, things would have been pretty interesting, folks...
83' Freekick to Australia in what can be called Mooy territory. Good skill by Arzani to keep the ball and he wins the foul in the end. Jedinak is on the ball, though...
82' Sainsbury is playing very high up the pitch and he does well to find Risdon on the right. The fullback's cross is deflected for a throw...
81' SHOT OFF THE POST! Just when I say that! Would have been offside, but boy, the Aussies just let go of everything and as many as three Peru players were there to deal with the loose pass. In the end, Hurtado's shot is off the post!
79' Booking for Hurtado for a rash tackle on Behich. The game is pretty dead now. Peru don't seem like they are overly looking for that third goal while the Aussies have lost their creativity. Rogic's substitution was a bit puzzling.
79' Substitution for Peru

Carrillo, the goalscorer, is OFF
Cartagena is ON
78' Nothing is really happening in the game here as Peru are defending staunchly to deny Australia any room to cross or shoot. Good defending this...
76' Advincula with smart feet as he fakes twice to send Behich down under. His clearance isn't the best, but he comes back to make the interception as Mooy tried to pick Cahill in the box.
74' Peru play it short and mess the move up in the end. Australia then break as Risdon tries to cross to find Cahill, but wonderfully defended by Santamaria again.
73' Corner to Peru out of nothing. A simple long ball that was sliced by Behich! Peru with a chance here...
73' Substitution for Australia

Rogic is OFF
Irvine is ON
72' WHAT A CHANCE! Mooy with a beautiful pass to pick out an unmarked Behich on the left. All he had to do was pick Cahill in the box from 3 yards, but he fails to do that and pass it straight to Gallese!
71' AGAIN! Mayhem in the Peru box as Leckie and burst forward to find Arzain on the left. The teenager's smashing cross is half cleared by Aquino and the keeper punches it away!
69' NEARLY AN OWN GOAL! Peru get away with just a corner! Jedinak and Leckie do well to get the ball forward and the latter's cross is headed to the far post by Cahill. Aquino was there to get the block in but the ball ricochets awkwardly for just a corner! Could have gone anywhere, that!
67' ARZANI SHOOTS! Caught that well, but just didn't get enough dip on it to trouble Gallese!
66' Yellow card sown to Rogic for a tactical foul on Cueva! All that came from the Australia freekick as Mooy's delivery was too much for Jedinak. Cueva broke forward and just had to be stopped...
65' Peru try to break forward but Sainsbury does well to get the block in and deny Cueva the chance to cut back in and shoot. Leckie is then fouled from the subsequent Australia break. Not a bad position to put one into the box...
64' Peru have pressed ever so well in the second half. Australia just can't get in behind that defence like they did in the first half. A lot of the chances have come through set pieces. They're probing again here, but to no avail...
62' Substitution for Peru

Tapia is OFF
Hurtado is ON
61' This is pretty end to end now as the Aussies are throwing everything to pull a goal back. Doing well to pass it around in midfield here...
60' And from the subsequent corner, Peru break! Arzani shows good pace to get close to Advincula and foul him to stop the dangerous Peru break! He is shown a yellow!
60' SO CLOSE! Behich contorts his body to shoot but Peru manage to just about get something on it and it's away for another corner!
59' Corner for Australia! A long throw in by Milligan was deftly headed back in by Jedinak. Trauco gets across to clear it away!
58' Substitution for Australia

Kruse is OFF
Arzani is ON
58' The Aussies try to calm things down a bit with a bit of possession, Arzani is also warming up to add that pace on the wings...
57' The Peru fans are going absolutely hysterical in the stadium. It's been coming, fellas. They've played so well throughout and are set to pick up their first win if they can keep this up...
56' Just didn't fall for Jedinak, the delivery from the corner as Peru somehow scramble it away! Lest we forget, Australia are yet to score from open play...
55' Mooy disappoints this time as his delivery is deflected by the wall for a corner!
54' Freekick to Australia in a dangerous position. Leckie showed quick feet to get away from Trauco but he is brought down in the process. They do have Cahill in the box now!
53' Wow, what a reception for the 38-year old Cahill! He is of course an Australian hero. Can he inspire his side to fight back and stay in the Cup?
53' Substitution for Australia

Juric is OFF
Cahill is ON
52' Not a bad corner! Jedinak leaped highest but just couldn't enough power behind his header as Gallese makes it look like an acrobatic save!
52' Australia try to hit back immediately and win a corner. Mooy on the deadball...
Trauco and Flores combined so well again on the left and Guerrero was totally unmarked in the box while all that happened! Flores cuts inside, picks out Guerrero with a simple pass and the forward does the rest! Good finish at the far post! Australia are going out!
50' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! Guerrero! Smart finish!
49' Peru again maraud forward as Trauco nearly finds Guerrero. Badly overhit pass in the end. Peru are showing so much desire to make this 2-0!
48' Juric is nearly through on goal with one smashing pass by Mooy! Just couldn't control it well. Could've done what Salah managed against Saudi Arabia last night!
47' Peru with a bit of good build up play as Guerrero and Trauco combine well on the left. Leckie is there to put the tackle in the end and the Aussies hoof it to the Peru half...
46' Good early pressing from Peru as Australia try to pass it around the back but have to deal with a barrage of Peru players staring them in the face!
Peeeeeeeeep! The second half is underway! Australia re-start, shooting from right to left...
Substitution for Peru

Yotun is OFF
Aquino is ON
The teams are in the tunnel. Australia have 45 minutes to turn this around. Even then, it's out of their hands as Denmark have defended well and are holding France! The Aussies need to score twice and pray France beat Denmark!
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Half time! As things stand, the Aussies are going out!

Second half in a few, fellas!
One minute will be added on...
45' Corner to Peru! Just where they need the ball to be! Good little move by Carrillo to beat Risdon and win a corner!
45' Yellow card shown to Yotun for bringing down Leckie. Rash tackle after losing the ball...
44' Peru are winning a lot more 50-50s in the midfield and have pushed forward quite a few times in the last 15 odd minutes. Can they finish strongly? Trauco on the ball...
42' Yotun's delivery is headed away by Leckie. Peru win the second ball and get moving forward again, but Milligan is there to stop Carrillo in his tracks and the Aussies win a freekick in the end...
41' Peru drive forward as Tapia and Cueva do well to keep the ball. Advincula is play through by Tapia and he manages to win a freekick. Identical position to where the Aussies had a few moments ago!
40' Good delivery by Mooy but Sainsbury's header is wide! Could have done better there. Just couldn't direct Mooy's driving delivery on goal!
39' Freekick to Australia at the edge of the box! Smashing ball by Sainsbury to find Risdon on the right and he beat two Peru players! He was fouled in the end and the Aussies have a good chance if they can put a good delivery in...
38' Goalkick in the end as Trauco runs it out of play while trying to cross. Australia are doing well, just haven't tested the 'keeper as much as they would have liked. A lot of good build up play.
37' Guerrero finds Carrillo with another pass but the winger this time decides to pass rather than shoot. Should've tried his luck. Smart, though, as Peru keep the ball in the Aussie half...
36' A bit of a mad minute there as the Aussies try to go long. Against this Peru team? Not happening, fellas. Peru break forward!
35' The corner is again defended well by Peru and the Aussies are forced to rebuild from the back once again.
34' MY MY! How did Peru block that one?!?! Smashing pass by Rogic to split the defence and find Kruse's run. The winger's square pass to find Juric is intercepted by Santamaria. WHAT A BLOCK! Corner!
33' Kruse makes another brilliant run on the left but it takes a lot to beat Advincula. The man is built like a tank and has good pace. Kruse goes down and the ref waves play on.  Peru then break through Cueva on the left and he tries to pick out Carrillo with a similar pass to what Guerrero managed, but's woeful in the end and the Aussies get away with it...
32' A bit of a fracas in the Australia box as Leckie gets a shot away from close range. Kruse however had drifted into an offside position and the linesman, belatedly, raised his flag.
31' Peru get a freekick in their own half and get the ball moving quickly.  Good pass by Yotun finds Advincula on the right but the fullback just isn't able to get past Behich and Australia get a goalkick
29' Almost beautifully done by Risdon and Leckie on the right! Risdon wanted the return pass and Leckie's little flick set the fullback for a cross. He tried to cut it back, but Trauco was there to intercept!
28' Not the best of corners by Mooy as Gallese collects safely. He tries to set Peru on the counter but the kick is too long for Guerrero and the Aussies get the ball back...
27' JEEZ! Rogic shows really quick feet to trouble the Peru defence. That was something, almost Messi esque! In the end, he just couldn't get past a barrage of Peru defenders and Australia get a corner!
26' Those little passing triangles that Peru played against Denmark? They are back as the goal has given them so much confidence. Yotun, Trauco and Flores combined brilliantly, but to no avail in the end...
25' The counter comes to nothing again as Behich just couldn't control a Mooy pass from deep. Peru now on the ball. Much more open game this now...
24' Guerrero goes close! A faint touch isn't enough to guide Yotun's delivery past Ryan. The Aussies break...
23' Confidence is growing in the Peru ranks as they are passing it around with a lot more purpose now. Cueva makes a darting run through the middle and the ref blows his whistle for a freekick after the attacker is fouled by Sainsbury in the Aussie half...
22' Leckie needs to get more on the ball. Juric does exactly that by sliding one on the right but Santamaria does excellently to win the tackle and Australia get just a throw in...
20' AH! Leckie over the bar! To be honest, he's not one you'd expect to head them in. Decent enough cross by Behich but Leckie just mistimes his header and Peru get a goalkick.
19' That came out of nowhere! First real chance and Peru make the Aussies pay. They are on the ball and trying to come up with a reply with Behich on the left...
Holy moly what a strike! Australia, who have been so solid for most parts of the game so far, were undone by one long pass by Ramos. Guerrero's excellent control took out a couple of defenders and his cross to Carrillo was hit first time by the latter. Brilliant technique to smash it past Ryan! Peru's first goal in the Cup, and they lead!
17' Corner to Peru? No? Sure looked like one as Cueva's attempted cross seemed to have come off Risdon.
16' Compared to the previous two games, Peru's build up just lacks that bit of pizzazz and drive at the moment. They seem a bit cagey for some reason.
15' Half a chance for the Aussies as Mooy did really well to pick out Kruse on the left. Good run, even better pass. Kruse's pass to Juric isn't the best as it comes of Santamaria and Gallese collects it safely.
14' Not the most fluent of games as of yet. Australia have shown more while going forward and have been rock solid at the back. Peru yet to really test the Aussie defence...
13' Important block by Santamaria on Rogic at the edge of the box! The falls to Kruse but again, Advincula is there to deny him any space to shoot as the Aussies play it backwards...
12' And Peru give it away trying to find Carrillo on the right. No real movement from the Peru attack as of yet. In contrast, we've seen plenty of the same from the Aussie forwards...
11' Cueva and Trauco try to make something out of the freekick but Australia are just so well structured at the back that they are forced to play it back and recycle possession. Good defending...
10' Yellow card shown to Jedinak for a high foot on Cueva. Looked nasty on the replay.
9' Australia build up from the back again as Peru have applied a bit of a press. They do well to find Behich on the left and his cross into the box is cleared by Ramos!
8' Peru give the ball away in a dangerous position. Just get it away, fellas! Had three Australia players pressing but they tried to pass their way out of it. All it takes is one misplaced pass!
7' Another Aussie move! Juric the supplier this time from the right as Rogic and Leckie combined well to find the striker on the right. His cutback was too close to Gallese and he smothers the chance!
6' The Aussies are breaking well here as Rogic's deft little chip to find Juric was just a tad overhit. Ramos was there to intercept and the Peruvians get away with it...
5' Shot by Jedinak! High and wide! Good play from Leckie on the right to shift the ball and put a dangerous cross in. Peru cleared it but the ball fell to Jedinak who tried his luck.
4' Juric drops deep to pick the ball. He beats one, but Peru are their to cover and get the ball away...
3' Jedinak and Mooy keep the ball in their own half, probing for an opening. Peru, by the way, have had 27 shots without scoring in the World Cup so far. That is something, fellas!
2' Australia now distributing the ball well. Rogic did well to get forward but the Peruvians did well to keep their shape and the Socceroos are forced to play it back and rebuild again...
1' Peru keep the ball well in their own half, sort of getting their players to touch the ball. Australia keep their shape well in the 1st minute...
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Kickoff! Peru get us started, shooting from right to left!
The two teams are out for the national anthems! Kickoff is moments away...
Australia vs Peru - Preview of sorts

A few permutations and combinations here. Denmark and Australia will have the same number of points if the Danes lose to France and the Socceroos beat Peru. It will come down to goal difference and if the two sides lose and win by a goal respectively, they'll be tied on goal difference. So, they'll have to score a few as the team who will have scored the maximum number of goals will go through if they are tied on points and goal difference.

That of course, is a lot of presumption. The Danes have a pretty good team and the French won't have it all their way. Australia will come up against a Peru side who should have beaten Denmark and at least got a point against the French from the sheer number of chances they created.

The two sides have named strong lineups. Australia and Peru both have good wide players but Tom Rogic could be the difference in the game. The Celtic star had a brilliant game against the Danes and does offer them the creativity through the middle. Peru's counter-attacking threat though will be their biggest weapon against the Aussies.

This is Amit Mishra, and I’ll be your host for the game! For feedbacks, you can reach me @DerStoic on Twitter or drop an email to Let’s hope for an open game, fellas!

Australia vs Peru – Team News

Australia still have a lot to play for even though it’s now out of their hands. If Denmark lose by more than two goals and the Socceroos beat Peru, they could move t the round of 16 at Denmark's expense. Both the teams have a few injury concerns though.

Australia will be without Andrew Nabbout who fell awkwardly during the game against Denmark and will miss the rest of the tournament after a shoulder injury. For Peru, Jefferson Farfan is unavailable after a nasty clash in training that has seen him suffer a traumatic brain injury. Farfan had a good opening game but played only a few minutes in their last game against France.

Peru have pushed both France and Denmark and the pace on the break will be something the Australian midfield duo Mile Jedinak and Aaron Mooy will have to deal with. Matthew Leckie had a good outing against the Danes and he’ll be expected to provide the width and stretch play.

Australia vs Peru – Probable Lineups

Australia XI: Ryan, Behich, Milligan, Sainsbury, Risdon, Mooy, Jedinak, Kruse, Leckie, Rogic, Juric

Peru XI: Gallese, Advincula, Rodriguez, Ramos, Trauco, Yotun, Tapia, Cueva, Flores, Carillo, Guerrero
