PEEP! PEEP! FULL TIME!
BARCELONA 4 - 0 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
That was the longest, most arduous training session the Bundesliga side will find themselves doing. They were given a lesson in possession football by the masters and it was simply delightful to watch for the neutral.
Messi was majestic, as was Iniesta - Denis Suarez was impressive and Andre Gomes did his job adeptly. Alcacer ran willingly all night - and Arda Turan shone! Vidal and Digne brought back a flair to their wingplay that had gone missing this season - and Umtiti was simply too powerful.
Great display from Barcelona, not so good from the German team.
It was a pleasure bringing this match to you... thank you for sticking around
Anirudh Menon signing out...
91' UFFF Rafinha tries to play in Alcacer but it's cut out.
90' Strobl goes on a leggy leg down the center of the park, but his ball wide to Korb is way too overhit for the right back. Digne is back, and he hacks it clear. There will be one more minute of added agony for the visitors
88' OHOHO! Digne tries an ambitious effort from outside the box - and why not - but it sails high into Row Z.
87' Umtiti yet again shows tremendous athleticism to cut out a long ball before Hahn can latch on to it. Then Suarez tries to unlock the battered Gladbach door with a lofted ball to Alcacer, but the remanents of the German defence hang on this time.
84' Cardona wafts into the middle and slips in Denis Suarez. The youngster has impressed today, and adds to his performance by shimmying his way to the touchline. He tries to play in Messi, but Christensen is alive to the danger and cuts it out
83' Hahn tries to run in behind Umtiti for the umpteempth time, but once again, neither the ball nor the Frenchman are doing him any favours
82' Barcelona are pressing Gladbach with the insane intensity of a pack wolves. 4-0 up, and still so very determined to get the ball back. It doesn't work this time, though and Gladbach have thirty seconds of possession in the opposition third. That makes it their best spell of the match
81' OU OU OU! Raffael plays the best touch of any Gladbach player this match when he releases Johnson through on goal with a neat little flick through Mascherano's legs. Johnson rounds Cillesen, but his touch his too heavy and narrows his angle - this makes him screw the shoot well wide. WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WAS!
80' Messi tries to play in Gomes but Gladbach are wise to the trick. They still don't know how to pass forward though, and immediately hand back to Umtiti.
79' Raffael tries to play in Johnson as the Foals go hunting for a consolation. Mascherano is determined to keep a cleansheet though, and cuts it out with a great tackle.
78' Denis Suarez tries to find Rafinha with a clever lifted ball. It's cut out, but Barca mop up the clearance, and back they come.
77' Andre Hahn has run his socks off here - and he's got absolutly rubbish service. Another errant pass sees another good Hahn run go to waste. He deserved better did the striker
76' The hunger Barca are showing is the truest sign that they are almost back at their best. They chase and harry Gladbach across their defence, before Messi flusters Sommer enough for him to almost concede possession to Alcacer in the box! The German recovers to hack clear, but Barca soon come swarming back in their erastz slow motion style
75' SUBSTITUTION- Marc Cardon ON for Hattrick hero Arda Turan
74' OH MESSI!! Turan fed in the flying Digne - and he crossed it low and hard. A superb diving header from MESSI took an even better save from Sommer to keep out. That would have been some goal
72' SUBSTITUTION for Gladach - the very poor (on the night) Hazard OFF, Raffael ON
70' Vidal and Suarez have had excellent games. Here the former stands one up to the far corner - but it's cut out Christensen. No one in this Barca attack is beating him in the air
69' Barcelona are really enjoying themselves here. The leftbacks are playing as wingers - and when they have the ball it is very much 2-1-2-5. It's ludicrously attacking.
AH! They made tha looks so easy. Messi to Rafinha. Rafinha to Alcacer. Alcacer with a square ball that left Turan with a tap in from one yard. Sommer caught it, but there was no way he was keeping that out. The Turk hammered it in to make sure he had gotten his first Champions League hattrick
67' GOOOOOOOOOAL! TURAN HATTRICK!!!!!!
65' Mascherano had gone sliding in, in an attempt to recover the ball, and if he had touched Hahn, that was a penalty.
64' OOOOOOO!! GLADBACH!!! HAZARD STEALS THE BALL AND RUNS STRAIGHT AT A BACKTRACKING UMTITI. HE FEEDS IN HAHN WHO GHOSTS PAST MASCHERANO, BUT IS HELD UP BY UMTITI! HE GOES DOWN IN THE BOX, BUT NOTHING DOING SAYS THE REF. RIGHTLY SO TOO
63' Gomes lifts a superb ball to Vidal to break up the rhythmic ground passing. He lays it off to Rafinha, who tries an urgent one-two with Suarez.. but that ain't happening. Nothing to worry for Barca, though as they go pass-pass-pass
62' Thorgan Hazard wins freekick. Thorgan Hazard wastes freekick. Sigh.
61' Thorgan Hazard hasnt given up the ghost. He goes on a power run down the middle of the park, but is soon forced back. Somehow the ball is worked back through to Johnson but the German American is overpowered by Umtiti.
60' SUBSTITUTION - Rafinha Alacantra ON, the majestic Don Andres Iniesta OFF
59' Hahn goes on a gander down the right and Umtiti decides that's not happening under his watch and pushes him to the ground. Two seconds after they take the freekick Barca have the ball back. Guess what they do with it?
58' SUBSTITUTIONS - Kramer ON for Dahoud. Johnson ON for Schulz. Will this make a difference?
Ei. You there, at the back... stop sniggering
57' Gladbach are trying to their immense credit - but they are simply being overwhelmed by a superior force here. Dahoud's pass is intercepted with contemptous ease by Iniesta before he sends in Messi. The scampering Argentine slips in Alcacer, but the Spaniard can only whack it at Sommer while running at full pelt. Just won't happen for him.
55' Mahmoud Dahoud goes into the ref's naughty book for an angry, frustrated, understandable challenge on Umtiti. The German has barely touched the ball all game - like his teammates he has been given a lesson in possession football
Oh my. This looked so effin' easy. Leo Messi weighted a delicious little ball to Vidal - who bombing forward in the Alves style - squared to Turan. The Turk placed it into the corner with a composed finish. How do you say Long, Long, Night in German?
53' GOAAAAL! ARDA TURAN AGAIN!!!!!
52' Messi is just a goal away from equalling his great rivals record of 11 Champions League group goals - and you know that despite what he says, he would like that record. This may be a long, long, night for the German team. Meanwhile, back on the pitch, pass-pass-pass go the men in blue and red
Suarez and Vidal combine brilliantly down the left again. The midfielder feeds in the right back once again, and he smacks a ball square into the box. The ball deflects off the outstretched lef Vestegaard and lands plomp on the head of Turan, who makes no mistake from all of two yards. That's the game, folks.
50' GOOOOOOALLL!! TURAN!!
49' OH MY!! THAT WAS SO CLOSE! Messi steals the ball at the edge of his own box and lays it off the Suarez. The young Spaniard sees Alcacer making a run and plays a perfect long ball into his path. Sommer is out brilliantly, and gets there just ahead o a slipping, sliding Alacacer
48' Rubbish corner from Hazard. Come on, man - he gets another bite at the cherry when Umtiti makes a hash of the clearance.
