FINAL SCORE: Bayern Munich 1-0 Atletico Madrid
A game in which we saw glimpses of the Bayern Munich that we all know. Atleti started well, with those two early chances that fell to Carrasco. Once they didn't take them, Bayern tightened the screws and took full control. Robert Lewandowski, who else, gave them the lead midway through the first half with a sublime free-kick and then they passed the ball, they passed the ball and they passed the ball some more to knock the sting out of Atletico.
The Spanish side were never in the game in an attacking sense as they could never get their star, Antoine Griezmann into the game. For Bayern, it is now three wins on the bounce. For Atletico, thee is no 100% group stage record.
So, from Group D, Bayern finish second with 12 points, three behind Atleti who finish top.
At the end of a good night for Don Carlo and his troops, this is Aaditya Narayan signing off. Cheers!
FINAL SCORE: Bayern Munich 1-0 Atletico Madrid
90+5' The corner comes to nothing. And that is full-time!
90+4' UFF! Gameiro is almost through on goal, but Rafinha is on hand to thrash the ball into touch. Atleti work the throw well to earn a corner. Last throw of the dice now.
90+3' Bayern are back to playing comfortable keep-ball in the last two minutes.
SIMEONE IS BARKING AT HIS PLAYERS TO CLOSE BAYERN DOWN. WHAT AN ENTERTAINER!
90+1' OOHH BIG TOUCH FROM MARTINEZ. Lucas Hernandez with a lovely cross that is destined to hit Gameiro's head but the big Spaniard is up early and takes the ball almost off the Frenchman's head.
89' Bayern are not keeping the ball well enough. Atleti are putting a lot more pressure on them. Begs for the question to be asked. Why didn't they do this earlier?
87' Javi Martinez replaces Douglas Costa. Clearly, Carlo is happy with 1-0.
86' Atleti have restarted playing a little football here, but it probably is too little, too late. Now Lucas Hernandez crosses it from the left to Gameiro but the angle is against the Frenchman and his shot is easily saved by Neuer.
85' Hummels is livid at Kimmich. The youngster plays the ball to the centre-back with Gameiro bearing down on him. Hummels thrashes the ball to touch and gives Kimmich the death stare.
This will only Bayern's second clean sheet in their last eight games, if they manage to see this through.
Clearly a sign of Carlo Ancelotti shutting up shop here. Bayern want a win. The scoreline does not matter.
Kimmich will replace Robben. The Dutchman gets a huge ovation. He has played very well. Minus the theatrics.
The young tyro, Joshua Kimmich will come on for Bayern now. He is stripped up and ready. Will be on in the next break of play.
How about this for a stat? Muller has scored in the Bundesliga since April. WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. HELL?
Bayern change. The hero, Robert Lewandowski is replaced by Thomas Muller.
Will Bayern live to rue that miss from Thiago?
77' WHAT A MISS! Absolutely beautiful from Bayern again. Delightful football! Bernat puts Costa through again and as has been the norm tonight, he reaches the byline before crossing it. The cross is perfect too. It finds Thiago right in the middle of the six-yard box, but the Spaniard's shot somehow goes over the goal. Huge let-off for Atleti.
76' Atleti work it around for a teeny bit before looking to play Gameiro in, but Neuer is out in a flash. Like Neuer always is.
The introductions of Correa, Gameiro and Partey have woken Atleti up slightly, but Bayern are still very comfortable with their passing game.
75' Atleti have had a shot. I repeat. Atleti have had a shot. It is an awful one from Correa though. Remains 1-0 to Bayern.
74' Lewandowski! Once again, Robben is set free on the right. He skins Savic and advances at pace before standing up a ball into the area. Lewandowski gets up but his header is high.
73' NICE OBLAK! Costa plays Robben in to put Lewa through but before he can reach it, the Slovenian is out and calmly snuffs out the danger. The man between the other set of sticks approves!
72' Rare foray forward for Atleti. Griezmann calms things down in midfield and plays it Godin. He plays it to Gabi. The captains looks towards his star striker again but his aerial ball is easily read and cut out by Hummels.
Vidal has been magnificent for Bayern today. He has well and truly pulled the strings. A very good game for the Chilean as he steps up his comeback from injury.
70' POOR TACKLE from Rafinha. He is late, he is rash and he clatters into Lucas. He gets away with a warning. Simeone is furious that he does.
69' Nothing can break Bayern's rhythm today. They are all on the same wavelength and it really is poetry in motion. This is a big statement from Bayern, even though it is against a much-changed Atleti.
68' Thomas Partey REPLACES Koke. His second UCL appearance this season. Both have been against Bayern.
66' Back at the Allianz, there is more keep-ball from Bayern. Don Carlo's boys do not want to relent here. And it has been delightful to watch them too.
As we have already said, Bayern will not win their group. For the first time in seven years. They could well face Arsenal, who are top of their group, as things stand. They lead 4-0 at Basel and PSG are only drawing at home against Ludogorets.
63' WHAT PACE FROM COSTA! He absolutely skins Vrsaljko and gets to the byline, but his cut back has no recipient and Saul can clear away. Back with Bayern for some more keep-ball.
Simeone is animated on the touchline as Gameiro is adjudged offside. Cholo clearly doesn't agree with the officials.
Atleti look to be struggling to keep up with Bayern's speed - both of feet and thought.
62' YELLOW CARD. Gabi is the first to go in the book for a foul on Bernat.
61' Gameiro and Correa replace Carrasco and Gaitan.
60' ROBBEN IS FURIOUS! Lewa plays the Dutchman into the box and he is held back by Savic. There was contact but the referee says nothing doing. The Dutchman is absolutely disgusted. He exaggerated the contact though. Far too theatrical in going down.
59' Chance! Bayern once again work it around neatly and Bernat is in space inside the box, on the left side. He could have crossed to Lewa but shoots straight at Oblak!
58' UFF THIAGO! The little magician spins past Gabi like he was not there. He plays it to Robben who lays it off for Lewa first time, but the Pole's touch lets him down.
