That's all from me here this evening. Until next time, good night & bon appetit!
...
What a gameweek it has been!

None of the big three sides - East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru - managed to get a win. East Bengal were beaten at home by Churchill Brothers while Mohun Bagan were also held at home by Mumbai FC earlier today. Bengaluru FC could have capitalized on that, but they leave Chennai with just a point. Aizawl FC are our I-League leaders. What a story that's turning out to be for Khalid Jamil and his boys!
...
Daniel and Udanta were superb for Bengaluru especially the latter who was the best forward on display, eclipsing his captain Chhetri as well. Chennai City simply could not contain him. Nishu Kumar at left-back also had a very impressive game. Daniel got the goal, but Johnson's gift at the other end meant another draw for the defending champs.
...
For Chennai City, Nandha and Soosai impressed on the wings, but the standout players were their two centre-backs Echezona and Ravanan who mounted a brave rearguard effort. It helps them earn a desperate point.
...
For Bengaluru, the struggle to score goals continues. They managed to break their winless run of seven games by beating Minerva 1-0 in their previous game. They would have desperately wanted another win on the trot, but its just a point for them. They can certainly feel aggrieved that they had two shots on goal that were cleared off the goal line by some desperate Chennai City defending as well as a claim for a penalty disallowed in stoppage time. Its just a point though and it sees them stay fifth.
...
Its a second successive 1-1 draw for Chennai City after their last game against Shivajians ended likewise. In both games, they were absolutely bombarded by the opposition. Somehow they have held on in both games for a point through a combination of their opponents' profligacy and some superb last-ditch defending. They get a point that pushes them back above Mumbai FC into ninth despite being level on points due to a better head-to-head record with the Mumbai side.
...
Final whistle! Phew! What a finish that was!

As nailbiting as it can get. A chance right at the death for Bengaluru that was cleared inches before it could cross the goal line. There was a solid shout for penalty from Bengaluru just a minute earlier when it looked like Debabrata had made contact with his arm while sending the ball back to his keeper. In the end the scores stay level and it's a point each. Yet another chance at three points lost for Bengaluru.

Chance at the death for Bengaluru FC

90+5' Bengaluru launch the ball into the box and it's an absolute melee. Jhingan, Jugovic and a whole bunch of pink shirts along with Chennai City defenders. Jugovic gets his head to it and it's heading goalwards, but a Chennai City boot gets to the ball just before it can cross the line and knocks it away for a corner.

...
90+4' Echezona once again rises high for a powerful clearing header and then recovers for another quick tackle. He's been a rock in defence.
...
90 + 3' Chance for Jugovic. The giant striker gets a chance at a header off a Nishu Kumar cross, but he hits it into the ground and wide of the post.
...
And looks like there is going to be opportunity for another goal. 5 minutes of stoppage time announced.
...
We're into the final minute of regulation and it's still level.

Chennai City 1-1 Bengaluru FC

CK Vineeth was amongst the goalscorers in the earlier clash between these two teams. Can he strike again to give his side the win?

84' Chennai City get a corner. Clement's cross into the box is met by Dhanapal Ganesh, but its deflected wide for a corner. Ganesh was claiming handball there, but the referee just gave a corner. The corner is easily cleared.

Should be an exciting last 10 minutes. Buckle in!

The two substitutions from Bengaluru are working well so far. Lyngdoh is getting the ball in midfield and spraying it around beautifully. Jugovic is providing them the extra height advantage in the air.
...
76' Nishu Kumar is pretty much the auxiliary left-winger at the moment. Here he is with another run into the box and low cross. This time Chennai City's defenders get a touch and nervously put it out of play for a corner. Off the set-piece, Chennai City get a foul to relieve the pressure.
...
74' Bengaluru go close again. Nishu Kumar with a lovely run down the left, gets into the box and lays the ball across the face of goal asking for a touch. No Bengaluru player though is on hand and a good chance goes begging.
...
Albert Roca still cutting a frustrated figure by the touchline. He will not want to have another opportunity missed at three points here.
...
71' Soosai show some nice footwork and control down the right to get the better of two defenders. He lays it off for Raegan whose touch is terrible and Bengaluru recover the ball.
...
Substitution for Bengaluru FC

69'
Eugeneson Lyngdoh IN Cameron Watson OUT
...
67' Lenny Rodrigues, the scorer from the last game, goes close. From outside the box on the right, he cuts in and tries to curl one in with his left foot. It is not too far away from the goal and had Karanjit worried there for a moment.
...
The action's definitely heating up here
...
What a chance for Bengaluru!

63' Watson's delivery off a corner is good and Chhetri rises to direct the ball back across goal where he finds Juan Antonio. The Spanish defender meets the ball with a firm header, but Debabrata is positioned on the goal line and he keeps it out. Juan Antonio has his head in his hands! So close!
...
61' Chennai City look to strike back. Charles with a surging run down the middle and gets fouled by Juan Antonio just outside the box. Nandha takes the free-kick and it goes just wide of the right-hand post

GOAL!

59'
Bengaluru pull level! Udanta the man again as he breaks the defensive line to get into the box. His cross/shot is met by Karanjit who gets his fist to the ball, but the ball falls to Daniel who is left with an easy finish.

Meanwhile Abhishek Das has left the field due to injury and Chennai City are playing on with 10 men for the moment

GOAL!

54'
Chennai City take the lead through an OWN GOAL! The hosts engineer a good build-up and get the ball to Soosai on the right flank. The winger whips in a good cross, but unfortunately for Bengaluru John Johnson heads into his own net and gives Chennai City the lead.

Chennai City 1-0 Bengaluru FC
...
52' Nishu Kumar from left-back makes a run into the box. Echezona stays with him though and prevents him from either crossing the ball or taking a shot. The Bengaluru full-back is forced to retreat and Chennai City get back possession.
...
The front-three of Udanta-Chhetri-Daniel caused plenty of problems for Chennai City's defenders. Can they cope with the threat, especially Udanta's pace down the right? Debabrata was completely overpowered in the first half.
...
Just a reminder, it's still Chennai City 0-0 Bengaluru FC
...
And we are underway in the second half...
...
Bengaluru pressed the hosts into submission early in the half, dominating proceedings and creating chance after chance. They were unable to breakthrough though and will be a bit frustrated that they didn't after starting like a house on fire.

Chennai City had a couple of chances as they looked to hit on the counter. They would probably be happy with this scoreline.

The second half promises to be an exhilarating ride as Bengaluru are going to go all out in search of the win.

Be back with us in a bit...
...
We're into 2 minutes of stoppage time here in the first half and the referee brings proceedings to an end. It's still deadlocked with no goals in it.

HT: Chennai City 0-0 Bengaluru FC
...
Major chance for Bengaluru

42'
Soosai on the left flank is a horrible one and it turns into a wonderful through ball for Bengaluru instead. Udanta latches onto it and plays Chhetri in. Only a last-ditch sliding clearance from Chennai City captain Ravanan helps keep the scores level. Fantastic tackle to keep Chhetri out!
