CHE vs BEN Match Result - ISL 2019-20
Chennaiyin
0 - 0
FT
Bengaluru
Right, that's it from us here at Sportskeeda! Hope you enjoyed our coverage and do stay tuned to Sportskeeda for all the latest news, scores and updates from the ISL!

Till then, this is Shashwat Kumar signing off! Goodbye and goodnight!
Tempers flare after the full-time whistle!
Both sets of players argue near the half-way line and rather inexplicably, Sunil Chhetri gets himself involved with the referee. The referee eventually brandishes a yellow card, meaning that the Blues' skipper is now suspended for their next encounter against the Kerala Blasters. Elsewhere, Serran has to be pulled away from the argument by Juanan. The most active bit of confrontation over the past couple of hours, sadly.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!! The teams end the game just as they started it: deadlocked!

Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC sparred for the majority of the encounter and apart from a few passages, their offensive play left a lot to be desired. The Blues, although the missed the services of Sunil Chhetri, weren't able to stitch together substantial attacking moves whereas the hosts were also guilty of not going through their offensive gears.

Having said that though, both sides had opportunities to put the result beyond doubt, with Schembri being thwarted by a combination of Bheke and Gurpreet while Semboi fluffed a couple of gilt-edge chances.

Thus, at the end of a cagey encounter, a draw seems a fair result, although that is a result that either side could've done without.
90+6' Nili battles for a loose ball in the box but Goian boots it away to safety. That should be that
90+5' BFC loft a ball towards Dimas, who heads it towards Nili. He is dispossessed by Goian, whose boot is pretty high. But, that isn't enough to warrant a penalty, despite the visitors' protests
The players look visibly tired and they seem to be feeling the effects of an extremely physical encounter
90+3' Nili runs up and takes a dreadful free-kick as it harmlessly sails well over the bar. Not the moment of inspiration Bengaluru were looking for
90+2' Dinliana gives away a cheap and silly free-kick as he barges into Semboi from behind. BFC have a free-kick from just outside the box. Could this be the decisive moment?
90+1' CFC move the ball around the pitch confidently but are failing to find any incision so far. They go all the way back to Sabia, who pings it to Dinliana, who loses it to Lewis. BFC are on the counter and Dimas then finds Kean on the left, who volleys a first time pass, which is cleared by Goian
A minimum of five minutes to be added on!
87' Thoi Singh is off!
Thoi dangles a leg well after Nili has released the pass and it catches the Spaniard. The referee instantly brings out the yellow card and Thoi is going to have to take an early shower. That looked a touch soft. Pretty soft, in all honesty
Chhetri has not come on so far, despite BFC searching for a goal. Is that a sign that he might be nursing something more than just a niggle or a simple case of the defending champions not wanting to expend their most prized asset?
Change for the visitors! Kean Lewis replaces Suresh Wangjam!
84' Dinliana finds himself in a crossing position on the right but his delivery is headed away by Juana, who again stands strong. He has been immense today
82' Now it's CFC on the attack as Schembri marches through midfield unchallenged. He finds Valskis, who gets the ball pinched off his toe by Bheke. The game has an end to end feel to it right now
81' Semboi misses another opportunity!
BFC spring a quick counter and Erik picks out Semboi superbly, in between the centre backs. The forward goes eyeball to eyeball with the keeper but then somehow, drags his shot as it pings off the post and rolls away from danger. Massive chance wasted!
79' Goal line clearance by Bheke!
Crivellaro is accorded space on the edge of the box and the Brazilian picks out Schembre, who is in acres of room inside the area. He turns and finds Gurpreet staring down on him. The keeper gets a palm to it and Bheke gets it away off the goal line
78' Semboi fluffs his lines!
Bheke launches a long throw in from the right side and it evades everybody in the box before it reaches Semboi, who is just beyond the far post. But, he shins it into the side netting as BFC miss their clearest chance
77' Dimas marches towards the opposition half and spots the run of Ashique. He then tries to thread a ball through but it is cut out, meaning that BFC still search for a palpable opening
76' Crivellaro lofts the ball into the box and Gurpreet nearly makes a meal of it. However, he just about gets enough purchase on his punch as Bheke then puts the ball out of bounds. Not the most convincing bit of keeping, one must admit
75! Now, Nili goes into the book!
Nili comes in from behind and gets a toe on the ball before Thoi clatters into the former's ankle. But, the referee interprets it differently and the hosts have a free kick on the right edge of the penalty box
74' Corner for CFC!
CFC work the ball towards Jerry on the left who feeds Valskis on the left edge of the box. The striker unleashes his shot but it is blocked superbly by Serran
72' Ashique strides towards goal in the inside right channel and he gets away from a couple of challenges. However, Thoi comes across him at that moment and brings him down.

Thoi gets a yellow for his troubles!
69' Valskis fires his free-kick straight into Schembri's back and the ball goes out for a goal-kick. Disappointing from the hosts
68' From BFC's corner, Chennaiyin march forward instantly and find Schembri on the right. He then cuts the ball back towards Crivellaro, who is mowed down by Serran. The hosts have a free-kick just outside the box from a central position. Is this the moment of breakthrough? It's 22 yards out!

And, Serran is booked!
CHange for Bengaluru FC! Udanta goes off for Semboi!
66' BFC advance down the inside left channel through Nili and the Spaniard feeds Ashique on the overlap. The Indian cuts it back and BFC go all the way to the other flank towards Udanta. However, his cross is easily charged down as the visitors only have a corner from a promising position
65' Erik uncharacteristically gives the ball straight to Crivellaro in the middle third and the latter tries to unlock the defence via a through ball. But, his pass is blocked by Juanan and Erik redeems himself by thumping it into touch
64' BFC waste a massive chance!
Bheke finds Nili with a wonderful slide-rule pass down the right and the Spaniard back-heels it into Udanta's path. But, the Indian takes a woeful first touch and then stumbles in the box before getting his cross in. By that time though, the defenders have recovered and they get the ball away
63' Goian and Vishal involve themselves in a mix-up as the defender gets in ahead of his keeper and nudges it away from him, when put under pressure by Nili. However, Eli Sabia is on hand to thump it away from goal
Chennaiyin's first change! Saighani comes off for Schembri! That's a sign of intent!
60' Goian gives the ball away and then Wangjam tries to pick out Ashique, who looks to move in the space between the full back and the centre back. But, his pass is cut out by Eli Sabia
58' Crivellaro lifts the free kick into the box and it causes a bit of chaos. Gurpreet comes out and fumbles his catch but fortunately, the loose ball falls to a BFC player and they get the ball away from the penalty area
58' Crivellaro gets goal-side of Dimas and the Spaniard then hacks him down. Somehow, he feels that he has done nothing wrong and is arguing with the referee. Anyway, free kick for the hosts
55' BFC push and probe and keep possession in the opposition half. However, they can't find any opening and CFC are on the counter. Chhangte races away on the left and Bheke does well to get a toe in. Serran then crouches down in front of the forward and shields the ball before it is cleared away. Could that have been a penalty? The hosts certainly seem to think so
53' Udanta finds himself in a crossing position on the right and there are a couple of targets to pick out. But, like many a time, the Indian puts too much weight on his cross, meaning that it harmlessly bounces out of bounds for a throw in
In the meantime, Juanan has gone into the book! That means that he will miss the next match!
Change for Bengaluru! Nili comes on for Brown!
50' A wonderful flowing move sees Chennaiyin move the ball towards the right and Thoi clips in a pass towards Valskis. However, Serran jumps high and clears the ball. The ball then finds its way to the striker on the edge of the box but his low drive lacks power to test Gurpreet
48' Jerry launches a cross-field pass for Thoi, who gets on the end of it and then drills in a cross towards the centre. But, his cross takes a deflection off Nishu and the ball goes out for a corner
46' CFC try to advance down the right and Edwin finds himself high up the pitch. But, the pass to him is just a little wayward and Nishu clears it, albeit via a deflection off Edwin
PeeeeepppP!!! Chennaiyin FC get us underway!
The teams are back out onto the pitch! We are just moments away from the start of the second period!

Here we go!
PEEEEEEPPPPPPP!!!! The referee blows the whistle and the sides enter the tunnel level!

Despite being touted as a potential humdinger, the game has so far failed to live up to expectations as both teams have sparred rather than actually landing any telling blows. Moreover, the sides have alternated possession during phases, meaning that neither has been able to generate the requisite head of steam to trouble the other.

Both managers have a vital team talk at half-time, although one reckons that Carles Cuadrat might be the happier, considering the Blues are on the road. Having said that though, the defending champions need to prize open the game, else, their dreams of finishing atop the ISL pile could be swept from under them.

Do join us in a short while for the second half!
45+1' CFC continue to search for an opening and ping the balll from side to side. But, they can't find a gap and they go all the way back to Saighani on the half line. He then picks out Chhangte on the left and the ball is recycled towards Jerry, who then heads it into the former's path. The ball is cleared by BFC and the hosts have a corner in the final seconds of the half
A minimum of one minute to be added on!
44' Chhangte and Jerry exchange passes on the left and the latter flings in a loopy cross towards his striker. But, Gurpreet will have those crosses all day long and he easily claims it
43' CFC again give away possession cheaply and Paartalu intercepts in midfield. He finds Dimas, who is then fouled By Edwin. It has been an extremely stop-start first half
40' Edwin drifts into the wide midfield position and whips in a cross for Valskis. The striker gets ahead of Serran but his header lacks the requisite power to trouble the keeper. Gurpreet collects
39' EDwin whips in a low ball that is defender by BFC. The ball falls to Thoi, who releases his shot but which is blocked easily by Udanta. The visitors try to spring the counter but Ashique's efforts go in vain as his touch lets him down just as he approaches the opposition box from the left flank
38' Some sloppy defending by Nishu on the left flank allows Chennaiyin another free kick, just near the touchline. Can they make the most of it?
35' Crivellaro looks to link up with Chhangte and clips a beautiful pass for the Indian on the left flank. But, Bheke is alert to the situation and he times his tackle to perfection to put the ball into touch
33' Rahul picks out Udanta on the right and immediately sets off for the return pass. Udanta threads it between the defenders but Rahul can't get it under his spell as it slides off his toe and into the keeper's palms
31' However, just as we said that, Crivellaro turns Serran on the left flank and then feeds the onrushing Chhangte. The latter takes a touch, lines him his shot but then wildly lashes it well over the bar. First real sight of goal for the hosts
31' BFC have nullified Chennaiyin's attacking threat nicely so far and have reduced them to spells of possession in defensive areas
29' CFC defend a long throw well and spring a counter as Saighani plays in Chhangte on the left. However, the visitors' defenders get around on the cover swiftly and snuff out the danger. Top work rate
25' BFC advance down the right as Brown brilliantly finds Udanta on the outside. He then clips the ball towards the centre, which gets recycled to find Ashique on the left edge. The Indian strikes at goal cleanly and Vishal palms it into the air. Thankfully, Dinliana is on hand to clear it away from danger. Not the most convincing bit of goal keeping
22' The likes of Dimas and Erik haven't been on the same page as Ashique and Udanta. There have been quite a few passes where the wingers have failed to make the requisite runs to get on the end of those passes. Another such instance occurs as Udanta fails to realise Dimas' intentions and checks his run even as the Spaniard looks for a pass beyond the defensive line
20' BFC try another one of their elaborate set-piece routines but this one goes horribly wrong. They take a short corner on the left and then pick out Nishu in the inside left channel. But, he hoists his cross out of bounds as a set-piece, surprisingly, comes to nothing
19' Ashique proceeds down the right and is found expertly by Nishu. He takes a couple of touches and drills a cross into the box where Goian stretches and clears it away for a throw-in
18' Udanta and Bheke interlink well on the right flank and the former looks to feed the latter as he advances deep into Chennaiyin territory on the right. But, the pass is heavy, meaning that the keeper can sniff it out
17' Brown blazes one wide!
Brown strongly dispossesses Crivellaro outside the Chennaiyin box and then lines up a shot. The Jamaican though, just slices across it and the ball blazes past Vishal's left post
16' Crivellaro whips in the free kick from the right flank and gets a good shape on it. But, it is overhit and that means that Brown can let the ball bounce into touch at the back post
15' The hosts try to advance down the right flank but Nishu is just a little too over eager in the tackle and he brings down Thoi Singh. Free kick in a promising position
11' A bit of indecision in the Chennaiyin area as a loose ball bobbles near the box. However, Vishal comes sliding off his line and just gets a toe on it ahead of Brown
10' Thoi wins the ball off Nishu and the loose ball is picked up by Crivellaro. He marches forward and looks to release Valskis but his pass is cut out by Juanan and the visitors breathe a sigh of relief
8' It has been a scrappy start to the game so far and another such foul sees Juanan bring Valskis down on the half-way line as the striker looked to escape the defender's clutches
6' Chennaiyin are enjoying more of the ball now and they manage to find Crivellaro in space in midfield. The Brazilian tries to link up with Valskis but he is quickly outnumbered by Paartalu and Wangjam
5' Suresh wins the ball in midfield and then tries to release Ashique down the left. But, the former can't get his radar right as the hosts come away with the ball
3' After a couple of one-twos in midfield, Paartalu tries to release Udanta on the right. But, it is too wayward for the Indian as the keeper collects with ease
2' Dinliana tries to ping a long cross-field ball towards Chhangte, who is already on his bike. However, the pass is just a touch heavy as Gurpreet comes to the left edge of his box and collects
1' Bengaluru enjoying early possession across their defensive line in the opening minute as they pass the ball from side to side
PEEEEEEEPPPP!!! The visitors get us underway!
The national anthems are done! Players indulge in their customary handshakes and pre-match photograph routines! We are moments away from the start now!

Here we go!
Anirudh Thapa and Edwin Vanspaul have formed a wonderful partnership in the centre of the park and have been pivotal to Chennaiyin's recent upturn in fortunes. Thus, it would be intriguing to see how Owen Coyle's men respond to a new partnership in midfield.
Chennaiyin FC, on the other hand, have opted for a bit of muscle in midfield and have preferred Masih Saighani, instead of Andre Schembri. In the process, Thoi Singh has come into the fold and he would want to prove himself against his former employers.
It's interesting to note that Sunil Chhetri isn't starting tonight. He also did not feature from the start in Bengaluru's AFC Cup match against Paro FC.
Team News! Schembri drops out and Saighani replaces him for Chennaiyin FC! Thoi Singh also returns to the starting line-up! And, most importantly, Sunil Chhetri only makes the bench!

Chennaiyin FC:
Vishal Kaith (GK), Laldinliana Renthlei, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Eli Sabia, Masih Saighani, Lucian Goian (C), Lallianzuala Chhangte, Edwin Vanspaul, Thoi Singh, Rafael Crivellaro, Nerijus Valskis

Bengaluru FC: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Rahul Bheke, Albert Serran, Juanan, Nishu Kumar, Suresh Wangjam, Udanta Singh, Dimas Delgado (C), Erik Paartalu, Deshorn Brown, Ashique Kuruniyan
Predicted Line-Ups!

Chennaiyin FC: Vishal Kaith (GK), Laldinliana Renthlei, Eli Sabia, Lucian Goian (C), Jerry Lalrinzuala, Germanpreet Singh, Edwin Sydney Vanspaul, Rafael Crivellaro, Andre Schembri, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Nerijus Valskis

Bengaluru FC: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Rahul Bheke, Albert Serran, Juanan Gonzalez, Nishu Kumar, Dimas Delgado, Erik Paartalu, Suresh Wangjam, Udanta Singh, Sunil Chhetri (C), Deshorn Brown
The Blues have rather uncharacteristically, failed to muster the scoring prowess that had embodied their performances over the past couple of seasons. In fact, Bengaluru have made the net bulge only 19 times in 15 matches, which is the 4th lowest tally in the league, behind Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United.

Fortunately for them though, they’ve kept things extremely tidy at the back, meaning that they shipped only 9 goals. Thus, despite not setting the ISL ablaze the defending champions have propelled themselves to the upper trenches of the table, thereby strengthening their credentials as an outfit that gets the job done, even when not playing well.

Hence, the encounter at the Marina Arena has the potential to morph into a titanic struggle for the pair, considering Bengaluru would want to finish atop the ISL pile and ensure a spot in next season’s AFC Champions League.

More interestingly, the contest pits Chennaiyin FC against the side that consigned the former to their nadir in the current campaign. And, it seems only fitting that the high-flying Marina Machans now clash paths with the Blues at a time when they are at their highest crest.

After all, if Chennaiyin are to truly portray how far they have come, they might not find a better stage than Sunday.
A few months later, armed with the presence of a certain Owen Coyle, Chennaiyin FC, rather improbably, find themselves in the midst of a top four battle, one where the Marina Machans still have their destiny in their own hands.

Throughout their upturn in fortunes, Coyle’s troops have refreshingly moved away from the cautious and at times, preemptive style of football his predecessor had preached. In contrast, the Marina Machans now represent an outfit that throws caution to the wind and tried to unlock the potential of its attacking reserves, a facet that was vividly on display against the Kerala Blasters recently.

However, during that period, Chennaiyin have only managed a solitary clean sheet, which incidentally, came against NorthEast United, a side that has scored only 9 goals, meaning that that particular achievement might not paint too solid a picture.

Thus, despite their stellar run, they still boast their fair share of deficiencies, although they have been offset in recent times. Yet, if they are to continue their upward trajectory, they’ll have to fire on all cylinders, considering they go toe to toe with defending champions, Bengaluru FC on Sunday.
At the start of the 2019-20 season, Chennaiyin FC represented a side in absolute turmoil. The Marina Machans couldn’t buy a victory and the goals had alarmingly dried up. To put things into perspective, then head coach, John Gregory had openly cut a resigned figure in one of those inevitably dreary press conferences, stating that he might indeed have run his ISL race.
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the ISL fixture between Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC! I am Shashwat Kumar and I will be taking you through the build-up and the entirety of the encounter! Stay tuned for the preview, head to head and predicted line-ups!
