CHE vs BEN Match Result - ISL 2019-20
2 - 1
J. Lalpekhlua 32'
G. Nelson 42'
57' S. Chhetri
FT. Chennaiyin 2-1 Bengaluru FC.
The hosts hold onto their first-half goals to secure their first 3 points at home. The bottom-placed team gets a win over the table-toppers but it won't really change the table.
Jeje Lalpekhlua and Gregory Nelson put Chennaiyin FC ahead before Sunil Chhetri nodded home in the second half.
BFC couldn't find an equaliser like they did last week against Kerala Blasters and will have to wait to seal their playoff spot.
This win will do a world of good for Chennaiyin FC, who were on a five-game losing streak.

90+4' Bengaluru FC players show their frustration with some poor challenges. This time, Edmund clips a player from behind.
Yellow - Edmund Lalrindika (Bengaluru FC)
90+3' Ajay concedes another free-kick and is booked for it.
Yellow - Ajay Chhetri (Bengaluru FC)
90+2' Substitution - Chennaiyin FC
OFF - Jeje Lalpekhlua
ON - Mohammed Rafi
90+1' Thoi Singh pounces on a poor header to the defence by Ajay Chhetri.
Players arrive and Nelson sets up Francis for a shot, which is wayward.
Five minutes added.
90' Final change for Bengaluru FC as Ajay Chhetri makes an appearance.
OFF - Harmanjot Khabra
ON - Ajay Chhetri
88' Time running out for Bengaluru FC and we're close to what might be Chennaiyin FC's first home win of this season!
86' Nishu Kumar forcefully brings down Augusto on the right. Thapa's take is poor and Gurpreet collects from Francis' attempt.
There's a lot of activity in the Chennaiyin FC box and Xisco fires but the attempt is straight at Karanjit. Can BFC find an equaliser?
80' Bengaluru FC have back-to-back corners.
Raphael Augusto gets that glance away by Juanan but the second delivery by Xisco is quite up to the mark.
77' Tondonba Singh whips the ball away but Kean Lewis lands a foot on the defender's ankle and needs treatment.
Another substitution coming?
76' Substitution - Bengaluru FC
OFF - Erik Paartalu
ON - Edmund Lalrindika
73' And that will be a yellow for Paartalu for that earlier challenge on Augusto.
Yellow - Erik Paartalu (Bengaluru FC)
He's also off the ground now. Bengaluru FC need to make a change and quick!
72' Substitution - Chennaiyin FC
OFF - CK Vineeth
ON - Thoi Singh
70' Erik Paartalu takes a swipe at Raphael Augusto and both the players are down now.
Activity on the Chennaiyin FC bench.
67' Harmanjot Khabra, a former Chennaiyin FC player with Bengaluru FC now, fluffs an opportunity. He shoots it way above the bar after a smart chest-down by Miku.
Gregory Nelson just slides into Kean Lewis and is penalised for it.
Yellow - Gregory Nelson (Chennaiyin FC)
Bengaluru FC respond
and in the way they can.
Sunil Chhetri is the man who steps up when the team needed him the most.
Rahul Bheke, Harmanjot Khabra and Xisco keep the ball alive on the right with some quick passes.
Xisco then spots the run by Chhetri, curls it away from Chris Herd, and leaves it for Chhetri to nod it in.
54' Bengaluru FC make their first change.
OFF - Luisma Villa
ON - Kean Lewis
52' Raphael Augusto takes a lazy shot and Gurpreet has to just collect it off the ground. Augusto, however, has really been in the thick of the action in this match.
48' Raphael Augusto breaks on the counter again but Luisma Villa pulls him back and gets into the referee's book.
Yellow - Luisma Villa (Bengaluru FC)
46' The match resumes.
And Bengaluru FC have that determined look to do something great in these 45 minutes. There have been some tactical changes with Rahul Bheke swapping positions with Rino Anto.
Chennaiyin FC lead 2-0 at half time and not many had given them that chance.
Yet, that's how it's unfolded at the JN Stadium in Chennai with Jeje Lalpekhlua bagging his first ISL goal of the season and Gregory Nelson doubling that lead before the break.
Bengaluru FC, the table toppers, have to once again score 2 in the second half if they want to get a point from this match.
Can they do it? An exciting second half coming up!
Two minutes added.
Chennai erupts as Gregory Nelson towers over Rino Anto to head the ball into the bottom-left corner.
CK Vineeth led Chennaiyin FC on the counter and plays it wide to Laldinliana. The full-back plays an inch-perfect cross to Nelson and the Dutchman doesn't disappoint!
39' SHOT!
Chennaiyin FC gain the momentum and it's Gregory Nelson this time who plays with his marker and takes a poke at the goal from the left.
But the effort is way off target.
36' Game on.
All that good work done by Bengaluru FC undone with that one mistake.
But the Blues are not new to coming back from such situations. Just last week, they overturned a two-goal deficit to snatch a point off Kerala Blasters.
And against the run of play, Chennaiyin FC go into the lead.
Augusto wins the ball, powers in and plays it Vineeth. The Chennaiyin FC striker seems to have wasted the chance but he passes it to his right and Nishu Kumar is unable to clear it.
The ball flows to Jeje Lalpekhlua, who powerfully puts it past Gurpreet for his first ISL goal for the season!
28' SAVE!
Augusto plays it to his right to Anirudh Thapa, who gets a touch and unleashes a shot from 30 yards out!
Gurpreet blocks it first, ball slips but he collects it.
It's that man Miku again, who receives the ball past Eli Sabia and tries to drift it to the far post.
But it flows wide.
26' It's been all Bengaluru FC in this half. BFC intercept a poor clearance and Miku flicks it quite well for Luisma Villa. But the return pass is weak and Chennaiyin FC are able to get it away.
21' First corner.
Bengaluru's Luisma Villa plays it deep and Xisco goes for goal off the volley but it's blocked!
19' Chennaiyin FC forced to make an early substitution for Ralte.
OFF - Zohmingliana Ralte (Ankle injury)
ON - Anirudh Thapa
17' FOUL!
Rino Anto takes one for the team by stopping the run by Gregory Nelson with a sliding tackle.
The crowd wants him to be sent off but Anto is not even warned.
15' Miku tries to control the ball inside the box but gets into a tussle with Zotea Ralte. Miku shrugs him away with his should but Ralte goes to the ground clutching his ankle. Bad landing there.
Two injury problems for Chennaiyin FC with Raphael Augusto also struggling.
12' Miku beats the offside flag but he moves to the side and just hopefully plays a cross into the box. There's no one there.
9' Aussie vs Aussie
Chris Herd unhappy because of a sliding tackle by fellow Australian Erik Paartalu. The referee calls a foul and this could be an interesting battle that we'll get to see tonight.
7' There are people at the centre but Laldinliana goes for goal from the right on his own. It's aimed past a couple of the Bengaluru FC defenders but not the goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
4' Nishu Kumar plays it in first time from the left flank after a lob from the half-line.
Karanjit collects without any hassle.
2' SHOT!
Bengaluru FC's Miku gets running on the break but Eli Sabia stops him on his tracks. A couple of seconds later, Xisco tries to curl it in with his left but it's an easy catch for Karanjit.
Crystal John is the main referee for tonight. Bengaluru FC look to ensure their progress to the playoffs while Chennaiyin FC are apparently playing for 'pride'
Fighting DNA.
John Gregory, the Chennaiyin FC, coach says Bengaluru FC have the knack to eke out results even if their performances have not been really great.
"Bengaluru keep managing to get results even when their performances haven't been up to the mark. They seem to find a way to get back into matches. It's in their DNA to play till the final whistle. And with players like Miku coming back, Bengaluru are always a danger. But let's hope we can put in the kind of performances we did against them last season," Gregory said before the Chennaiyin v Bengaluru ISL Live game.
All about rivals.
Even though Chennaiyin FC are no longer in the contention for a spot in the ISL playoffs, Bengaluru FC coach Carles Cuadrat feels this game still has a lot of significance.
"There is a rivalry between these two sides. It does not matter if you are at the top or bottom, these kinds of games are special. I know that Chennaiyin are a really brave team and I am sure they will be fighting for three points tomorrow," Cuadrat said before the Chennaiyin v Bengaluru ISL Live game.
When Chennaiyin FC won the ISL in 2015, they finished seventh the following year. The curse of the champions has hit them again as the defending champions are now bottom of the table.

Chennaiyin FC vs Bengaluru FC Preview:

It's time for yet another Southern Derby as the Indian Super League (ISL) defending champions Chennaiyin FC host last season's runners-up Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

Bengaluru FC had beaten Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at the Kanteerava Stadium in the second fixture of the ISL with Miku finding the back of the net in the second half.

Since then, BFC have gone on to almost secure their spot in the ISL semifinals and are currently leading the table with 31 points in 14 games.

Chennaiyin FC, on the other hand, saw their season go from bad to worse. No defending champion has secured a spot in the next season's ISL playoffs and Chennaiyin FC have been hit with that curse. They are bottom of the table with just five points in 14 games and have just one win this season.

Even in their previous game against FC Pune City, new signing CK Vineeth had given CFC the lead. However, Karanjit Singh's poor work between the posts saw Marcelinho get 2 goals in 2 minutes for Pune City.

Halicharan Narzary joined CFC along with Vineeth from Kerala Blasters but hasn't really impressed with his performances. John Gregory will hope he's back to his best against the threatening Bengaluru FC.

There's nothing in stake for Chennaiyin FC, while a win will ensure BFC's qualification into the playoffs.

Bengaluru FC come off a 2-2 draw with Kerala Blasters in a game which saw Sunil Chhetri snap his seven-game goalless streak to score the vital equaliser.

It also saw the return of Miku from injury in the second half and the Venezuelan's addition to the squad has lessened the burden on Chhetri.

New signing Luisma Villa suffered an injury during training and was left out of the squad. It remains to be seen if he'll make the 18-man list for the game against Chennaiyin FC.
