Well, Zambrotta comprehensively out-strategised his friend Materazzi there.
The first half had everything that a neutral could ask for - slapstick defending, hilariously bad goalkeeping, three goals, a million chances, wasteful finishing and angry managers. OH come on, get off your high horse - that is what makes for some grade-A entertainment.
The second half was several pegs below in terms of tempo - but Zambrotta will be extremely pleased with the way his team killed the game by playing keepball and taking the one chance that came through. It was death by a thousand passes - exactly the kind of thing a manager wants to see.
Materazzi will be furious with his defenders - especially Mendy. He must have been tempted to pull on some boots and come on. He has a lot of work to do drill some discipline into that defence, and it will be very very surprising if Kerr starts the next match.
Great game overall, and it was a pleasure bringing it to you one alphabet at a time.
Thank you for reading, and goodnight!
Anirudh Menon signing out, toodle-ooo!
90' + 4' Badji almost runs through on goal, but Mendy gets a leg in just in time.
90' + 3' Nothing is happening here. None of the Chennai players look like they can be bothered
90' + 1' Malouda gets the ball around twenty yards away from the goal. He shifts it to his favoured left foot, but his shot is well blocked by Riise. The corner is played short, and Delhi recycle possesion
90' The usually reliable Mendy has been very poor tonight. He gifts Delhi another chance that Badji wastes with a shot that flies well wide.
Four minutes added time
89' Mulder should be in the book for that - He quite simply ups and kicks Badji. Just kicks him out of sheer frustration. but it's just a foul
87' OH DUDU!!! The striker does supremely well to control the ball first time on his touch (the kind of chest control Fellaini would have been proud of) but doesn't take the shot immediately. A wall of white converges around him, and that's the end of that chance.
86' Succi gets pulled up for offside. Yet again a marginal decision that really should have gone the attackers way. If I were the assistant ref, Ii'd stay as far away from Materazzi as possible
84' OH KERR!! He spills a perfectly regulation safe, and almost gets involved in a tangle with his own defender. Chennai somehow survive
Ah wow. That was so wonderfully well worked by Delhi. Their passing lulls Chennai into thinking there is no threat.. but Lewis switches gears and floats past Wadoo and puts in a teasing cross across the box. BAdji flies in between Mendy and Riise and places a perfect header into the far corner. SUPERB stuff from the men in white.
81' This is death by a thousand passes for Chennai. Zambrotta seems to have picked up a thing or two from his time at Barcelona
80' The Frenchman's first touch is a beautiful ball that almost releases Badji, but Jerry does well to usher the striker away from danger
79' SUBSTITUTION - Memo OFF, Malouda ON. Not too shabby if you can bring on a multiple Premier League title winner at the fag end of the game, eh?
78' Delhi are pegging Chennai back with some very patient passing here. Excellent stuff from the Dynamos as they seek to suck any tempo out of the home side's game.
76' Kim Kima gets in yet another header, as Delhi clear the ball. It's sent high and long for Badji to chase and the Senegalese does his best to make a nuisance of himself, but Mendy is just too strong
74' it's a great throw from Riise, that is well cleared. Lewis is the first to the clearance, and he looks like he is breaking free - but his touch lets him down and Wadoo does well to slide in and win it back
73' SUBSTITUTION - Gadze OFF, Badji ON
72' It may only be a one goal lead - but Delhi are playing with the confidence of winners here - Zambrotta's side are pinging the ball about very well - AND just as i say that, Dudu quite literally bullies the ball off Marcelinho and sparks a Chennai attack that ends with them winning a throw. Riise is lining up a long one
71' SUBSTITUTION - Augusto OFF, Succi ON. Looks like they will go three up front now. Materazzi will be hoping his compatriot is able to provide the cutting edge that they so seem to be lacking currently
70' Delhi are stroking the ball around with much more confidence than the men in blue. Another dangerous cross is headed clear by Jerry. Well done by the defender to cut in front of Gadze and get the ball
69' Dudu is called out for offside. The burly striker is NOT best pleased with that - and for good reason. Another poor call there from the line ref
68' SUBSTITUTE - Jayesh OFF, Hanghal ON. Fresh legs very much the need for Chennai here
67' Lewis plays a brilliant little reverse that almost sets Souvik free down the byline (inside the box), and his cutback eludes Gadze
66' Marcelinho looks so comfortable on the ball, he wafts in from the right and ignites another spell of passing that anyone from La Masia would be proud to be associated with
64' Chennai very much on top here - they have so much of the ball, but are creating very little with. They need a spark from somewhere - and Mulder ALMOST provides it. He comes flying in to meet Jeje's cute little dink but is crowded out well by Ruben and Kima
63' Jerry Lalrinzuala - Jerry from now on - swings in a teasing cross that Delhi concede a corner from
62' Gadze runs in behind the Chennai defence yet again, but Kerr comes out and clears confidently - takes Cojones to do that after his awful attempts in the first half.
61' Just after the substitution, Riise had swung in a dangerous looking freekick into the box, and Doblas was caught flapping at it. But no Chennai head was on hand to guide it home
60' SUBSTITUTION - Lalrinzuala ON, the very poor Mohanraj OFF
58' Augusto muscles his way through the middle of the park - carrying Memo like he is a little nursery kid along the way - and lays it off to Sahni who gets clattered by Marcelinho. That's a YELLOW.
57' Mohanraj comes in high on Marcelinho and goes straight through him to get the ball. The ref correctly penalises the Tamilian for that bit of nonsense
56' OUCH. Mohanraj catches Marcelinho - completely unintentional that. The Delhi winger springs up immediately much to his teammates' relief
54' WHAT A TACKLE FROM RIISE. A silly mistake from Mohanraj allows Gadze to bear down on goal - he's so much faster than the Chennai centre-back's that it's not even funny - but Riise times his tackle to perfection.
53' Jeje does superbly to jink in a ball. Ruben does even better to outjump Dudu and heads it out to safety.
52' Marcelinho is doing his bit defensively, and he does well to stop a Mohanraj cross. Delhi have barely touched the ball yet - whatever Materazzi said seems to have had it's effect. Chennai are camped in Delhi's half
51' YELLOW for Augusto - that was a foul borne of frustration more than anything else. Silly from the Brazilian, and he'll need to watch his step now
50' Good defensive header from Milan, keeps out another teasing Mulder cross, and then some lovely interplay between Souvik and Lewis allows Delhi to play their way out of trouble
49' SUBSTITUTION - Anas OFF, Kim Kima ON. The central defender had been really solid in the first half, but an awkward fall has resulted in him limping off. Dudu and Jeje will be happy with this development, Zambrotta not so much
