Right! That's it from us here at Sportskeeda! Hope you enjoyed our coverage and do stay tuned to Sportskeeda for all the latest news, scores and updates from the ISL! Also, join us for the clutch clash between Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC tomorrow!

Till then, this is Shashwat Kumar signing off! Goodbye and goodnight!
Peeeeeeeeeeepppppp!!! Chennaiyin FC emerge victorious!

For large swathes of the encounter, a Chennaiyin victory seemed a foregone conclusion. However, the hosts tried every trick in the book to somehow remain on level terms with the visitors, especially after a woeful display of finishing in the first half.

After the break, the home side, rather ironically, made the net bulge twice from distance, with Crivellaro nudging them ahead before Valskis popped up with his customary goal.

NorthEast, meanwhile, were slightly flattered by the 2-0 score-line as they failed to create opportunities for the majority of the contest and always seemed at shambles at the back.

Thus, the defeat would again open a pandora's box for Robert Jarni, considering the Highlanders have not won since the 6th of November.

As for Chennaiyin, they would hope that they continue the upward trajectory they currently find themselves on. And, with a 2nd clean sheet in the bag, Owen Coyle, apart from the finishing, would've been pleased with the performance.
90+3' Chaves strikes the post!
Chaves steps up and curls the free-kick wonderfully beyond the wall. However, his shot strikes the post courtesy a finger-tip save by Vishal. The keeper wants his clean sheet, alright!
90+2' Chaves drops a shoulder and nudges ahead of Edwin outside the box. The Indian, though, pegs him back, albeit unfairly. And, the visitors have a free-kick in a good position
90+2' NorthEast launch a long ball forward looking for Keogh. But, Goian telegraphs it and heads it away to safety
A minimum of 3 minutes to be added on!
90' Thoi bursts clear of Pradhan and has the entirety of the penalty box to himself. He takes a couple of touches and decides to shoot at goal. But, his strike is too central and the keeper easily pushes it away. He had Chhangte in support. Could he have passed? In hindsight, probably should have. Having said that though, his finish also left a lot to be desired
89' Change for Chennaiyin! Crivellaro is replaced by Thoi Singh!
87' Dragos again proceeds down the right flank and cuts the ball back into the box. Apuia gets to it first but then amazingly decides to back-heel. The ball falls to Chhangte who can't get himself a yard to get the shot away
86' Dragos surges past a couple of challenges but the final ball is lacking. He tries to slip Crivellaro through but his pass is easily cut out by Heerings
83' Dragos carries the ball into the opposition half and then looks for a slide-rule pass for Valskis. Unfortunately, the striker makes his run a little early, meaning that NorthEast finally get their off-side trap right
81' NorthEast spread the ball towards Ninthoi and the youngster just takes a bit too long to release his cross. In the process, the hosts' defenders crowd him out and he only earns a corner
78' Ninthoi comes close!
Ninthoi collects a pass from Keogh and then produces a sweet strike on goal. However, the central nature of the shot enables Vishal to parry it over the bar
77' Dragos proceeds down the right and backs Pradhan into a corner. The former then cuts inside and releases a left-footed shot that is easily gathered by the keeper
74' Thapa heads over!
Crivellaro glides through midfield and then sets up Chhangte on the left side of the penalty area. The Indian gets to the by-line and clips a delicious cross for Thapa, who just heads over at the near post
73' Edwin wins the ball in midfield and helps the hosts regain possession. They pass it around the back before opting for a long pass towards Dragos. However, the forward is unable to control it and NorthEast have the ball now
71' Crivellaro goes close again!
Crivellaro gets on the end of a bouncing ball on the left edge of the box and he absolutely leathers his volley at goal. Fortunately for the keeper, the strike is pretty central, thereby allowing him to palm it over the bar
Change for the hosts! Schembri goes off and Dragos replaces him!
69' Keogh slips past his marker and proceeds towards the by-line on the right channel. He looks up and tries to pick out Chaves but his attempt is thwarted by Goian, who slides in and puts the ball behind for a corner
66' Chennaiyin pounce on the counter brilliantly and quickly string together a couple of passes. Chhangte then finds himself in space on the right but he just delays his pass a touch, meaning that NorthEast recover. He then gets a shooting chance from the edge of the box but it is fired straight at the keeper
65' Chaves' shot deflects wide of the post!
Chaves cuts inside and lines up a shot at goal. He gets his shot away but the strike takes a slight deflection off Thapa to bounce behind for a corner
64' Chhangte shoots over!
NorthEast again fail to get in a strong challenge and that allows Crivellaro to march into the box. He deftly finds Chhangte and the Indian turns his marker beautifully before he skies his attempt just over the bar. He did everything but score in that passage of play
63' Chhangte bursts past Reagan on the left flank and then drills in a perfect cross for Schembri.  But, the latter just can't get on the end of the cross as another chance goes begging for Schembri. Just not his day
62' NorthEast have a promising free-kick situation on the left edge of the box and Gallego steps forward to take it. However, he produces one of the worst set-pieces of the season as it blazes well over the bar
59' GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLL!!!! Valskis with another stunner!!
Valskis drops deep and then feeds Schembri. The latter races through on goal but somehow scuffs is shot. Heerings then collects the rebound and inexplicably passes it to Valskis. The striker does the rest and thumps the ball into the far top corner. NorthEast haven't really helped themselves here
58' GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!! Crivellaro scores!!!
Crivellaro turns his marker on the left flank just beyond the half-way line. He then spots the keeper off his line and conjures a sublime shot that eludes Subhasish and nestles into the back of the net. Not the greatest bit of goalkeeping, one must say. After being caught in no man's land, the keeper also failed to recover quickly
57' NorthEast again dig themselves a hole as Heerings' loose touch grants possession to Valskis. But, the striker's attempted through-ball to Crivellaro is too heavy as the ball runs into touch
54' The hosts spring a brisk counter instantly and Chhangte finds himself in space on the right edge of the box. But, his cross/shot lacks the requisite conviction as the keeper pushes it behind for a corner
54' After the first corner is cleared easily, NorthEast muster a better set-piece that finds its way to the edge of the box. Milan unleashes a low shot that is blocked by a combination of Vishal and Edwin
53' Keogh keeps hold of a rapid pass from Gallego and swiftly turns to strike at goal. Vishal gets his fingertips to it as he sends the ball behind
52' Valskis controls a pass from Schembri and then lays the ball off for Edwin. The Indian tries to curl the ball into the net but doesn't get his radar right as the ball harmlessly bounces wide
51' NorthEast have started the 2nd half much better and have settled into a passing rhythm much quicker, as opposed to the first half
49' Jerry gets back into position and snuffs out a dangerous looking attack on NorthEast's right flank. The ball rolls out for a corner. Gallego takes the set-piece but Vishal comes out confidently and palms it away. The ball again finds its way to Gallego who speculatively goes for goal and the keeper just does enough to parry the shot behind
48' Keogh holds the ball up well and brings his teammates into play. Milan then pigs the ball towards Rupert but Eli Sabia then blocks the run and Vishal collects
47' A scrappy start to the 2nd half as both sides look to get into a passing rhythm. NorthEast dangerously play the ball around the back but eventually, get it away to safety
Peeeeeeeeeppppp!!!! NorthEast get us underway!
Change for NorthEast! Rupert Nongrum comes on for Redeem!
Peeeeepppp!! The first half at the Marina Arena somehow remains goal-less at the break!

The hosts clearly dominated proceedings for the opening 45 minutes and fashioned themselves several clear-cut opportunities. However, their finishing was discernibly woeful as the likes of Schembri and Valskis passed up chances to help Chennaiyin nudge ahead.

NorthEast, meanwhile, carved open the hosts' rear-guard a couple of times, although the finishing touch also eluded them. Keogh was denied service for large stretches of the half whereas their defence also seemed a calamity waiting to unravel.

Thus, the visitors have plenty of flaws to iron out after the break whereas the home side would be hoping to assert their dominance again and make the net bulge.

Do join us in a short while for the second half!
45+2' Gallego's corner is disappointing but the rebound falls to Milan, who strikes the ball sweetly. Unfortunately for him, Goian is again in the way and that is that
45+1' Reagan and Redeem work the ball well on the right flank and the former finds himself in a crossing position. But, he is charged down brilliantly by Goian as the deflection runs out for a corner
44' Chhangte gets himself a yard on the left flank and he immediately whips in a cross towards the centre. Valskis rises high but only manages to nod his header straight down the keeper's midriff
43' Thapa plays an ambitious long ball to Schembri who gets in behind the defensive line on the right channel. However, the goalkeeper comes out of his area and just about gets the job done. Not the most convincing effort by Subhasish but one that was necessary
41' Chaves cuts inside Dinliana and lines up an effort from 20 yards. But, he is completely off balance and that leads to him blazing his effort well over the bar
40' Nifty footwork by Crivellaro creates space in midfield and Thapa then spreads it wide for Dinliana. The defender curls the ball towards the back post but it finds no takers. Fortunately, they recycle the ball and a cross is drilled into Schembri by Crivellaro. But, rather amazingly, Schembri doesn't gamble and another opening is spurned
37' Schembri misses yet another opportunity!
Thapa whips in a delightful cross and it finds its way to Schembri inside the 6-yard box. But, somehow, the midfielder manages to head the ball wide, despite being stationed centrally. Surely, the hosts would rue these chances, wouldn't they?
35' Pradhan does well to keep the ball in play and his header finds Chaves. The latter turns his marker and then looks for a one-two with Keogh. But, they're on different wavelengths as the striker, in anticipation of a cross, runs in behind the defence, even as Chaves plays the short pass. Again, the attack fizzles out
34' Keogh beats the off-side trap again as Gallego looks to clip a ball over the top. Unfortunately, the quality of the pass doesn't match that of the run as the keeper comes out and collects comfortably
32' Goian with a goal-line clearance!
Gallego's initially deep corner finds Milan who whips in a left-footed cross from the right. Gallego gets on the end of it and feeds Keogh, who finds Komorski at the back post. The defender heads towards goal but is attempt is thwarted on the line by Goian
32' NorthEast work the ball well in midfield and Keogh drops deep. The Irishman then sweeps the ball wide for Reagan, whose deep cross is headed behind for a corner by Dinliana
30' Redeem battles hard on the right flank and eventually, manages to find Milan on the right edge of the box. The midfielder whips in a cross but that is dealt with by Vishal, albeit unconvincingly. The hosts then crowd out Gallego from getting the rebound on target
29' Chennaiyin work the ball well in midfield and Thapa feeds Dinliana on the flank. But, the latter miscontrols and the ball rolls out of play harmlessly
27' Gallego wins the ball in midfield and immediately looks for the run of Keogh. The striker tries to get in behind the defence but the pass is just a tad heavy, meaning that Vishal can come out and collect
26' Chhangte wins the ball deep in his own half and then strides purposefully towards goal from the left. But, he can't link up with Valskis as the promising attack comes to nothing
24' NorthEast haven't come to grips with the hosts' quick switch of play and they've found themselves out of position on most occasions. Moreover, the high defensive line is creating more problems, considering they aren't pressurizing the ball in midfield
21' Chaves gives the ball away in the defensive third and that invites the hosts for another attack. Crivellaro tries to outwit his marker but only earns a corner. However, Chennaiyin don't make the most of the opportunity as the corner is too deep and it subsequently, rolls into touch
20' Redeem chops away at Crivellaro's heels and finally brings him down. Chennaiyin haul their central defenders forward but the delivery from the free-kick is poor as the visitors deal with it easily
18' NorthEast look to play the ball long towards Chaves as the midfielder looks to run beyond Dinliana. But, the defender does just enough to nudge ahead of him and head the ball back to Vishal
16' Chaves floats the free-kick into the box but it is cleared adeptly by Goian. The Highlanders recycle the ball but the resulting cross is pouched safely by Vishal. First meaningful attack by the visitors since that early opening
15' Chaves dances past a couple of challenges and gets the wrong side of Thapa. However, the Indian brings him down and NorthEast have a free-kick in a promising position, 30 yards from goal
14' Schembri misses another chance!
Valskis beats the off-side trap easily and runs towards the by-line on the right flank. He then crosses the ball low and NorthEast make a meal of their clearance. The loose ball pops up for Schembri, who only manages to tamely head straight at the keeper
13' Schembri fires wide!
Some slick inter-play by Edwin and Thapa releases the latter near the right edge of the box. The midfielder drills in a cross to the near post where Schembri gets ahead of his marker but only manages to steer his shot wide of the post. Another chance for the hosts
11' Thapa switches the ball towards Dinliana and the right-back crosses the ball in-field. NorthEast initially clear it but the clearance falls to Edwin, who lines up a speculative attempt from all of 35 yards and still manages to draw a smart save from the keeper
8' Laldinliana runs clear of his marker on the right wing and then drills a cross into the box. The pass finds Valskis, who ends up swiping agriculturally at the ball as it hits his standing foot. Another half-chance gone begging
8' NorthEast again try to play out from the back but are quickly crowded out by Chennaiyin's forwards
7' Reagan tries to slide in a through-ball on the right edge of the box and looks to find Redeem. However, the pass is just a touch heavy and Goian escorts it behind for a goal-kick
5' Valskis hits the crossbar!!
Valskis finds himself in a bit of space inside the box after NorthEast shoot themselves in the foot. The striker, though, manages to hit the crossbar with the goal gaping. Wow! It seemed more difficult to hit the frame from that position but the score remains goal-less. Will the hosts rue that missed chance?
4' The hosts work the ball well down the left and Thapa slides in a cross. NorthEast hoof the ball clear, although they looked massively tentative in doing so. Chennaiyin have certainly started the better of the two sides
4' Chhangte runs clear on the left flank and finds himself in a shooting position on the edge of the box. He lets fly but his strike is gathered comfortably by Vishal
3' There was an early shout for a penalty after the corner in the 2nd minute when the ball struck Crivellaro's arm. But, the referee decided against it
1' Early chance for Keogh!
Chennaiyin's defence switches off and Chaves easily feeds Keogh, who runs in between the hosts' centre-backs. He stabs at the ball but Subhasish does just enough to deflect the ball behind for a corner
Peeeeeeppppp!! Chennaiyin get us underway!
The national anthems are done! We are just moments away from the start of play!
We are just minutes away from the start of the game and the crowd is building up for this clutch clash. Stay tuned!
Chennaiyin, meanwhile, have also relied heavily on Nerijus Valskis to inject the side with the requisite firepower up front. However, rather encouragingly, since the arrival of Owen Coyle, the Marina Machans have portrayed more of a cutting edge in the attacking third, with the likes of Crivellaro and Chhangte involved significantly.
NorthEast United last scored from open play on the 2nd of December when Panagiotis Triadis equalised against Jamshedpur FC. Since then, the Highlanders have made the net bulge just a solitary time, with that goal coming against the Kerala Blasters, which was scored by Asamoah Gyan. To put things into further perspective, the aforementioned players have contributed directly to the outfit's last four league goals.

However, with Gyan and Triadis no longer slated to feature for NorthEast in the 2019-20 season, the Highlanders might want to find a secondary source of goals and they might want to stumble upon it soon.
