Job done for Real Madrid.

They go back to the top of La Liga to end a difficult week, with a perfect morale boosting win over a plucky Eibar. Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid early on and quickly doubled his tally before setting up James for the third, as Real Madrid went three goals to the good inside half an hour.

Eibar looked unlike their hard-pressing selves, displaying high levels of fatigue as Real Madrid hardly had to get out of second gear to win the game. Marco Asensio grabbed the fourth for Madrid, before Ruben Pena scored a late consolation.

Zinedine Zidane will welcome back Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale for the trip to Napoli, and this is a perfect win to settle fears over slipping up in the title race.

49' OOOH! Benzema squeezes the ball past Yoel from a narrow angle, with James chasing to keep the ball in play but he cannot. Moments before that happened, Asensio could have earned a penalty after being tripped in the box, but chose to stay up. Creditable stuff from the Madrid youngster, but I'm sure he'd react differently were the score 0-0 and not 3-0.
...
47' Luna is down after getting caught by Modric, with the game resuming play after he hobbles off the pitch.
...
46' AND WE'RE OFF! Eibar get us underway in the second half, kicking off from left to right!

It's all setup for an Eibar win at 4-3 eh?
...
What a response from Real Madrid.

The vultures were ready - High-flying Eibar, at home, were the perfect banana-skin of a fixture. Coupled with the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, this was set up to have the newspaper editors in Barcelona salivating in anticipation.

Karim Benzema was having none of it - he has tormented the Eibar backline tonight, scoring the first two goals, before assisting the third for James. The hosts have been uncharacteristically slow, but Madrid have displayed a ruthless efficiency that throws down the gauntlet to Barcelona.

The second half is yet to come, but this game is effectively done and dusted.

HT: Eibar 0-3 Real Madrid
...
44' CHANCE! Benzema takes advantage of a long ball, with Capa misjudging the flight and allowing it to fall into the Frenchman's path. He hammers a low drive from a narrow angle on the left, with Yoel making a save. The rebound falls to Modric, who spreads it wide to Asensio, but Yoel collects his under-powered drive across goal.
...
42' OOOOF! Marco Asensio picks up the ball on the edge of the box and attempts to curl the ball past the defender into the bottom corner. Yoel dives at full stretch and breathes a sigh of relief when he watches the ball fly inches wide of the post.
...
40' Modric loses the ball on the left wing after executing a couple of neat nutmegs, and Pedro Leon pounces on it. He sends in a tempting cross to the far post, but Navas comes out to confidently claim the ball.
...
37' Eibar have had much of the ball in the last few minutes, and nearly grab a goal back through Sergi Enrich, but Ramos makes a crucial block to deny the Eibar striker.
...
34' Well, I'm all embarrassed after having predicted a draw at the start of the game. Real Madrid are completely dominating, toying the ball around away from Eibar's legs.
...
32' Escalante goes into the book for a late foul on Casemiro
...
29' A STUNNING GOAL FROM JAMES! Benzema powers in a low cross from the right wing, and James responds with a beautifully controlled finish into the far corner. Eibar 0-3 Real Madrid
