ENG vs BEL Match Result - FIFA WC 2018
0 - 1
51' A. Januzaj
93' PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! PEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Adnan Januzaj's goal proves to the difference between these two teams. What a dull and drab affair this has been.

It finishes England 0-1 Belgium.

This is me, Shambhu Ajith, signing off. I'm outta here.

92' Fellaini hits the sidenetting from the left side of the box after Thorgan Hazard played him into the box.
91' Batshuayi somehow comes away with the goal away from Cahill and Danny Rose and thrusts the ball into the middle of the ball where people scramble like they found a bomb or something. Referee intervenes to send the boys away as he spots an infringement from Belgium's side.
90' 3 minutes added on.
89' Eric Dier fouls Tielemans near the centre of the park.
88' Fellaini with a Zidanesque turn, runs clear and sends Thorgan clear on the left side. He cuts it in and lays it off to Dries Mertens who leathers it with the outside of his boot and Pickford hurls himself to parry it clear. Finally some exciting football from Belgium.
87' Danny Rose wins a freekick near the left flank corner flag. Rose takes it quickly and Welbeck is standing near the first post and he flicks it straight out of play. Just Danny boy things.
85' Substitution for Belgium.

Adnan Januzaj, the goalscorer is off. Dries Mertens on.
84' Loftus-Cheek dances past Boyata and then sends a shocker of a cross that goes beyond the touchline.
82' The ball dips dangerously into the centre of the area and Courtois punches it but it falls for Welbeck. His shot is goal bound but Fellaini gets a block in to send the ball out for a corner. Rashford takes it and hits it straight at Courtois.
81' England have a corner as Dendoncker foils Rose's effort to run into the box from the left flank.
80' He goes for goal and it's not a bad effort. Courtois had it covered as the ball flies over the crossbar.
79' There's a conference happening around the ball. Finally Rashford is left to do his thang.
79' Loftus-Cheek is fouled 25 yards away from goal and England have yet another freekick in a promising position. Rashford wants to take it.
78' Substitution for England.

Trent Alexander-Arnold off. Danny Welbeck on.
76' Fellaini crosses the ball from the left flank but it's too deep and falls to no one in a red kit.
76' Danny Welbeck is also going to come in. Woohoo!
76' Eden Hazard is warming up. Woohoo!
75' It's delivered deep by Trent boy and Maguire tries to head it back into the centre but Courtois charges out and collects it.
74' Foul on Vardy. Freekick for England, 25 yards away, on the left side. Trent boy is standing by it once again. He'll swing this one in.
73' Substitution for Belgium.

Vermaelen off. Kompany on.
73' Vardy and Delph try to work something but the latter's final ball is too heavy for Vardy to track down and another England chance is scuppered.
72' We're 72 minutes in and the game still shows no signs of life.
70' Dier barges into Fellaini and brings him down. Belgium have a freekick, 35 yards from goal. Januzaj will take it.
69' Dier plays a lovely diagonal ball into the right flank and it is controlled well by Trent boy who sends a cross deep, beyond the far post and Rose heads it back and Delph goes for goal from the edge of the box but it's deflected clear.
67' Maguire plays a lofted ball into the final third but Courtois comes out to collect before Rashford can reach it.
66' Oh Fabian! Goes for goal from 30 yards out and it's way off the mark.
65' Rashford misses a sitter!

Vardy plays him clean through on goal. One on one and Courtois gets a touch on it to send it out for a corner. Corner comes to nothing though.
63' Belgium wit the lion's share of possession and not a great deal more than that.
61' Loftus-Cheek takes his sweet time before spreading the play out to Trent boy. And the Liverpool wing back is flagged offside.
60' Loftus-Cheek motors down the right flank for England and dinks it into the area but Courtois stretches his right arm and shoves it away from goal before it is ultimately cleared by Chadli.
58' Belgium keep the ball in their defensive half as England give chase, almost reluctantly
57' We've just been treated to the best muppet snippet of the World Cup. So right after Januzaj rattled the netting, Batshuayi picks up the ball and kicks it straight at the post and it returns to autograph his face in the ugliest manner. One for the meme pages.
57' Clash of heads between Vardy and Vermaelen. Vermaelen is on the ground.
56' Dendoncker plays a long speculative ball forward to the left wing but Trent boy holds off Thorgan and queers his pitch.
54' Thorgan and Batshuayi play a lovely one-two and the former feeds Januzaj on the right flank. He cuts in and tries to go for goal but his shot is blocked by Maguire and the ball goes out for a throw-in.
53' Fellaini roulette in his own defensive third. The Manchester United connection is shining through. Heh.
53' Trent boy hits it straight at the wall and that's that.
52' Loftus-Cheek is tripped from behind by Mousa Dembele and England have a freekick, 25 yards away. Trent boy will take it.
51' Harry Kane is getting ready to come on in the dugout. IT'S COMING HOME, LADS.

Januzaj prances into the box, swivels and dances past Danny Rose before sending a sweet curler into the top corner, over and beyond a diving Pickford. Beauty.
48' Rashford dances past Tielemans and Dendoncker but the latter catches up with him and wins a freekick before Rashford can get his shot away.
47' Vardy finds Rashford inside the area on the left side and Marcus tries to curl it around Boyata and Courtois but he fails to impart any sort of curve on it.
46' Guess it's more of the same in the second half, going by the way the first two minutes have panned out.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Batshuayi rolls the ball from the centre and we're off in the second half. Sigh.
Substitution for England.

Maguire on. John Stones off.
Can we have a little more action or entertainment in the second half?
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! Sod off, morons. What a boring set of 45 minutes.

England 0-0 Belgium.

The less said, the better.
45' Trent boy takes a weak corner which is cleared straight away.
44' Loftus Cheek finally plays a good ball from the right wing and Delph tries to get at the end of it but Boyata heads it out for a corner.
44' Can we all shake hands and call it quits at 45 minutes? Please?
41' Danny Rose and Delph combine on the left wing to create a bit of movement in the final third for England. The latter's cross is headed out of the area and it falls for Ruben Loftus-Cheek who refuses to leather it first time like he should have and instead tries to control it. Bad idea. Belgium clear.
37' Fellaini and Batshuayi find each other incessantly inside the area but somehow it's not exhilarating at all and eventually lays it off to Thorgan Hazard on the edge of the area and he telegraphs it to Row Z.
35' Boyata doesn't get a good enough touch on it and England win the ball. Rashford with a little dance breaks into the final third and lobs it into the area but it's a tad too high for Vardy to climb to.
34' Januzaj goes for goal from 25 yards out. It clips Cahill's boot on the way and Thorgan Hazard will take the corner.
33' Trent boy's ball falls to Loftus Cheek in the centre of the area but he heads it wide.
33' Trent boy's delivery hits the wall and goes out for a corner.
32' Danny Rose hits the deck as Dendoncker mows him down as the former threatens to escape into the box from the left flank. Trent boy will take this.
31' Trent Boy almost inadvertently pulls off a Ronaldinho from the right wing. Relax, lads. It's a cross gone awfully wrong.
28' More and more of pinging the ball around to very little effect/entertainment.
26' Thorgan takes the corner and the ball falls to Fellaini. The bushy haired bully's shot is cleared off the lines by Trent boy and it falls to Januzaj inside the area. He is wrestled off the ball and England clear the danger.
26' Batshuayi finally breaks into the box after he's released by Januzaj from the right flank. Stones tracks back and puts a block in. Corner for Belgium.
24' This has been as boring a game as any we've had to endure in this World Cup campaign. Belgium try to build something from the back. But it looks more like they're trying to build something AT the back.
22' I'm trying to bring you updates but there aren't any. So you're going to have to be content with this as England and Belgium struggle to find a spark.
20' Belgium clear it courtesy of the sheer size of their players.
18' Tielemans gets a yellow for thrusting his knee into the path of Danny Rose. England have a freekick on the left flank. Trent boy will swing this one in.
17' Tielemans hops clear of Dier and tries to feed Batshuayi inside the area but it's intercepted by Cahill and he foils Belgium's plan.
16' Dembele is fouled by Jones and eh, it's a freekick for Belgium in their defensive half.
15' Vardy plays an optimistic ball forward for Rashford to pursue but it runs straight to Courtois hands like a toddler to his parents on his first day of school.
13' Trent boy has a lovely ball to chase courtesy Eric Dier and the wing back chases it down and pumps it towards the centre of the area where Vardy rises and tries to nod it home. But it is nowhere close to being on target.
11' Cahill gets punished for a push and Belgium have a freekick.
10' Trent Alexander-Arnold wins a corner for England after tussling with the Thorgan of the Hazard family. But Trent boy's corner is poor. No problem, England have yet another corner. From the other side. It's all about the angles, mate.
9' What just happened there?!

Januzaj does about 50 stepovers before pinging in a pretty decent ball into the far post where Fellaini heads it back to the centre. Batshuayi pokes at it and the ball pops out of Pickford's hands and almost rolls over the line before Cahill cleared it.
7' Kaliningrad Stadium or Dullsville? How about yawnlawn?
5' Tielemans goes for glory from 25 yards out and it is a thunderstrike. It moves in the air, dips and falls awkwardly for Pickford who blocks it well enough. Belgium register their first shot on target.
5' Belgium are stringing a few passes together. That, and not much else.
3' Rose pings a long ball down the left wing for Rashford to chase but Boyata clears it out for a throw-in.
2' Thorgan Hazard's poor back pass resulted in a real scare for Belgium as Jamie Vardy ran to get to the end of it He slashes it towards goal but Courtois gets a hand on it before Rashford can get to it.
1' Rashford receives the ball from Vardy in the centre of the park and slides an extended ball but it is too extended and rolls out for a goalkick.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! And we're off. England will attack from left to right on the TV screen.
The teams are lined up in the tunnel, yada yada yada... Pre-match diplomacy, handshakes, fake smiles and in about 8 minutes, we'll have live action.

Oh, by the way, England are in their storied whites and Belgium are in their primary red kit.
Been kinda sapped of that zing I showed up with at work today. Nah, don't wanna understate it, Im absolutely deflated, mate, after seeing those lineups. Our boy Rashford getting a run in is perhaps the only thing keeping me up even.

How is Adnan Januzaj starting a World Cup game? If this game is going to be a dud, only people surprised would belong to the fourth kind. Come on, Vardy. Come on, Marcus. Score a few belters, lads.

And let them know that it is indeed coming home.

England vs Belgium: Team News

It will be quite interesting to see how both managers will use their resources tonight as both teams have already qualified for the knockout phase. As a result, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kyle Walker, who were yellow carded in the match against Panama and are hence running the risk of facing suspension are expected to be rested.

Dele Alli has just recovered after absorbing a knock in the opening game against Tunisia. It remains to be seen whether Jamie Vardy will start the match ahead of Harry Kane as Southgate might feel the need to keep his main player away from any injuries.Marcus Rashford is also expected to be given a start in place of Raheem Sterling.

As for Belgium, two of their superstars, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku will sit this one out after picking up minor niggles in their game against Tunisia. Kevin De Bruyne and Axel Witsel could also be rested and Tielemans and Mousa Dembele could come into the fray for Roberto Martinez's side.

Thorgan Hazard and Michy Batshuayi are the frontrunners to replace Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku in the starting lineup.

England vs Belgium: Probable lineups

England:  Pickford; Jones, Stones, Cahill; Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Dier, Lingard, Rose; Rashford, Kane
Belgium:  Courtois; Vermaelen, Boyata, Kompany; Dembele, Fellaini, Chadli, T Hazard, Tielemans, Januzaj; Batshuayi

England vs Belgium: Form guide

England: D-W-W-W-W

England steamrollered a meek Panama side and have been looking menacing in both open play and from set-pieces even though the majority of their goals have come from the latter. They are in good form and are undefeated in their last 5 matches.

Belgium: D-W-W-W-W

Belgium have been immense with all their star players firing on all cylinders. Belgium are the dark horses of this tournament.

England vs Belgium: Key Players

As for England, Jesse Lingard will be key to unlocking the Belgium defence. His movement and ability to score screamers from outside the box makes him a threat of a different kind as the rest of the English side.

For Belgium, if Kevin De Bruyne starts, he will definitely be their most important player. If Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and De Bruyne don't start, Mousa Dembele could dictate terms in midfield to great effect.
