Barcelona leapfrog Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table with the win. They maintain the pressure on their arch-rivals, who have a game in hand.
Luis Enrique's side failed to hit any shots on target in the first half of the game but scored with their first shot as Luis Suarez pounced on a defensive error by Jurado and he finished clinically. Espanyol didn't give up and maintained their hiigh-pressing but after conceding the first it was always going to be an uphill task. Ivan Rakitic scored the second after yet another brilliant run by Lionel Messi, before Suarez capped off the win after capitalizing on Aaron's sliced clearance.

Espanyol remain without a win against their more illustrious opponents in 16 attempts in the league and will have to wait until next season to get a chance to break the poor run.

The Catalan giants have three more games left from now until the end of the season and tonight was arguably their biggest test but they have come out of it with the 3 points. Their remaining 3 games are at home against Villarreal, away against Las Palmas and the final one at home against Eibar. They will be looking to win the 3 games but need Madrid to lose one of their remaining 4 games, if the Camp Nou outfit stand a chance to win La Liga for the 3rd consecutive year.

Once again it is Messi who is too hot to handle for the home side. The Argentine embarks on another scintillating run from within Barcelona's half, he evades a couple of challenges before laying it off for Neymar down the left. Neymar attempts an NO-LOOK pass and finds Messi, who lifts the ball above the defence into the path of Suarez but Aaron is there who slices his clearance and the ball falls to Suarez, a couple of yards from goal, and the Uruguayan makes no mistake to make it 26 league goals for the season and seal the win for Barcelona.

...
Suarez has been a passenger for most parts of the game and failed to have any sort of impact, until he intercepted the backpass. After he had done that, you just know that El Pistolero will bury it.
