Peru
K. Mbappé 34'
That's it from me. Join us in an hour for live coverage of Argentina vs Croatia where Messi will be looking to right some wrongs after that infamous penalty miss against Iceland.
The referee brings things to an end and the Peruvians are in tears. However, they have only themselves to blame after a host of missed chances. France meanwhile are into the R16 but will need to improve by leaps and bounds to really have a chance in the knockout rounds

FT: France 1-0 Peru
94' What an attempt by Giroud what a block. Giroud dances past two tackles and pulls the trigger but it's miraculously blocked by a defender
94' Balls clipped in by Advincula but it's defended well and France escape
93' Final throw of the dice. Freekick for Peru. Can they nick one here?
92' 2 more minutes for France to hang on. Peru have not really threatened in the final 10 minutes after a devastating start to the second half
91' Fekir goes down like he's been shot and promptly gets back up after the freekick is awarded.
90' 4 minutes of added time. 4 minutes for Peru to save their World Cup campaign
89' Final change for France. Paul Pogba walks off and Nzonzi replaces him. Deschamps looking to reinforce the defence
87' Freekick in a promising position for Guerrero. Disappointing from the captain as he lifts it harmlessly into Lloris' hands
86' Pogba cautioned after a backhanded slap on Farfan's face. That was monstrous
85' Corner for Peru. Whipped into the box but easily headed away
84' France inching closer to a spot in the R16. Peru simply cannot seem to find a way to hit that net. Deschamps' side have seen off the initial pressure and now look comfortable again
82' Dembele should score. Gets the ball just inside the box, swivels but fires wide of Gallese's far post. What a chance to seal it.
81' Some bemusing stuff going on. A case of mistaken identity. Aquino brings down Pogba but Flores is booked. Ah but a word in the ref's ear and he changes his mind. He is human after all
80' Another France change. Griezmann draws the short straw and has to trot off with Fekir coming on
78' Pogba takes a plunge like he's in the Atlantic Ocean and wins a freekick
77' Peru have had 26 attempts on goal. You read that right 26!!
78' Route one stuff as Lloris launches one into orbit. Matuidi flicks it on but into the hands of a grateful Gallese
76' 15 minutes for France to hold on. Peru are fighting for their lives but like was the case against Denmark, have failed to find the back of the net
75' Deschamps has had enough and the goalscorer Mbappe is replaced by Dembele.
74' Sidenetting. Cueva with a delightful ball into Carrillo who dinks one into the far post but Farfan's acrobatic effort hits the side netting
72' Did no one see that? Hernandez lashes out at Advincula in frustration but the game just carries on. Maybe my eyes are deceiving me
70' Peru running Deschamps' men ragged at the moment and they simply cannot find a way out of their own half. It's gonna be a long 20 minutes for them to hold on
70' No they cannot. Yet another setpiece wasted as the referee blows for a foul on Giroud.
69' Peru getting closer. And they now have a corner. Can they make it count?
69' Over the bar yet again. Advincula jinks back on to his left and fires one just over the crossbar
68' France pegged back in their own half. Matuidi tries to release Griezmann down the right but it's woefully misdirected yet again
66' Carrillo again drives past Matuidi like he isn't even there. Yet again though his cross is easily headed away by Umtiti.
64' France restore some calm and slow down the game. They are right up against it at the moment
63' France have no answer to this intense Peruvian press in the second half and it's one way traffic at the moment
61' Over the bar from Carrillo. Peru are swarming the French midfielders and Carrillo this time wins the ball and fires one from 20 yards out but it's high and handsome and Lloris can breathe a sigh of relief
60' Lovely from Advíncula as he motors past Matuidi on the right but his cross is easily intercepted by Varane
58' Shout for a penalty but nothing doing. Carrillo takes a tumble under no contact and is rightfully signalled to get right back up. A bit naughty there from the Peruvian winger
57' Oh you beauty Kylian. Mbappe sends Advincula back to school with a brilliant twist and turn but his final delivery comes up short.
56' Lovely from Pogba as he backflicks one past Ramos but he is marshalled to the ground and the ref surprisingly waves play on.
55' Another French freekick. But they decide to take it short this time and it amounts to nothing
53' Freekick for France in a promising position. Griezmann delivers and the keeper collects safely after a bit of ping-pong in the box
52' Wake-up call for France and they look to hit back immediately but Pavard's cross sails over his teammates' heads and out to touch
50' OFF THE POST. Aquino picks it up near the halfway line and leathers one from 40 yards out. It dipped it swerved it did everything possible but smashes into the outside of the post with Lloris comprehensively beaten. How have Peru still not scored?
48' Umtiti looks in trouble, but he slowly gets himself up and dusts himself off. What a warrior
47' Route one stuff and Guerrero finds himself in space but the ref brings things back for a foul on Umtiti. Peru are furious
46' Peru with the first substitutions of the game. Farfan replaces Yotun and Santamaria is on for Rodriguez
We are back!! Peru have a mountain to climb and it doesn't look like they have any real way back into the game. France cannot afford to get complacent though. They need to see this one through
Peeeeep peeeeep. The ref brings the first half to an end with France bossing the Peruvians. Join us in 15 for the second half.
47' Griezmann delightfully picks out Giroud on the edge of the box but the former Arsenal striker's touch lets him down and Ramos pokes it away in time
45' 2 minutes of added time in a first half that's simply raced away. France have looked in complete control after Peru started off brightly
45' Geez this Griezmann is something else. What vision. What sublime feel. No wonder Atletico are fighting so hard to keep him.
43' Unbelievable play from France. Mbappe showboats yet again and finds Griezmann with a delightful backflick. He then swivels and finds an unmarked Hernandez on the left. But the left back's shot is brilliantly saved by Gallese
39' What a counter from France. Pogba wins the back in his own box, sets Mbappe racing away on the right. He squares it to Griezmann who tries to thread the needle with a ball to Giroud in the middle but it's just about shut out by the keeper. What a move that was. We are finally seeing the real France and it is simply delightful
37' It's been an entertaining one so far but France have edged it and deserve their goal. This will ease the pressure on Les Bleus and they can now sit back and hit Peru on the break
36' Mbappe is now the youngest ever goalscorer for France in a World Cup
35' GOOOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLLL.  Pogba with a delightful ball into Giroud's path who takes the shot on. It deflects straight into Mbappe's path who taps it into an empty net. That's cruel on Peru. Gallese looked to have had that covered initially.
31' What a save by Lloris. Cueva whips a beautiful ball into the box, Guerrero's first touch gets him past Umtiti but he hits it low and hard at Lloris. Inches to either side and that was a goal. Will Peru regret this miss?
30' Mbappe collapses like he's been shot but the ref looks the other way much to the striker's disgust.
29' Another cheap giveaway. Yotun this time floats one harmlessly out to touch under no pressure whatsoever
27' The early madness has subsided and we have a much steadier game at the moment. France tapping the ball around looking for an opening but give it away yet again
26' A whistle-loving referee and he blows yet again for a nothing challenge. Let the game go on for christ's sake
24' Corner for Peru. Yotun whips one in but it's headed clear by Matuidi and Flores drags his shot horribly wide of the post.
23' Peru's skipper is cautioned. Guerrero and Umtiti were going at each other but it's the Peruvian who is penalised
21' Great run down the right flank by Carrillo but the final ball is lacking and Varane deals with it with absurd ease
19' Handball by Pavard and Peru have a freekick in dangerous territory. Yatun to deliver but Rodriguez is penalised for wrestling Umtiti to the ground. What a waste
18' France have wrestled the momentum firmly back in their favour and all Peru are doing is chasing shadows at the moment
16' Great save by Gallese. Giroud's flick on finds Griezmann on the edge of the box but his first time shot is well saved by the keeper.
15' Penalty shout for France. Giroud with a lovely backheel to Mbappe who is brought down by Ramos but the ref waves play on.
14' Just Wide. How close was that. Griezmann with a beautifully weighted corner but Varane sends his header flying inches wide of the far post.
12' Mbappe leaves Trauco for dead with some scintillating quick feet. Boy this guy can play.
10' What a chance for Griezmann. A ricochet off Ramos sends Griezmann racing down the right but he misfires horribly when faced with the keeper. What a miss.
9' Pavard knocks Guerrero to the floor with a move that wouldn't even be tolerated in the UFC. Freekick to Peru
8' Very scruffy start to the game. Matuidi yet again gives away possession far too easily. Story of the game so far
5' AMBITIOUS EFFORT. Cueva spots Lloris way off his line and goes for an audacious chip from near the centre circle. Flies into the third tier though
4' Poor from Kante. Finds some space in the midfield but his pass is awry and sent into the stands. Not a great start from France and the intense Peruvian press is getting to them
2' Confident start from Peru. Pogba is far too easily dispossessed by Cueva but nothing comes of the move. Carillo meanwhile is writhing in pain. This would be a huge blow for the Peruvians
1' A bandageless Giroud is hauled down to the floor but the ref waves play on. Carillo bombs down the right and does well to earn his side a throw
And we are off! France kicking from left to right get us underway.
Stat attack:

Antoine Griezmann has been involved in nine of France's last 13 goals in major tournaments
France have not lost against CONMEBOL opposition since 1978.
It was a far from ideal start to the 2018 World Cup for Les Bleus as they stuttered and stumbled their way past Australia. They will face a much sterner test when they take on Peru in a clash that could decide both teams' fate in the competition. Peru impressed in their opener against Denmark but a missed penalty coupled with Kasper Schmeichel's heroics denied them their first points. They need to bounce back if they are to remain in contention after what was a solid qualification campaign.
What did the managers say?

Ricardo Gareca
: "I do not know if we will be on the same level anywhere, to be honest. But we are continually improving and want to adapt to this high level as soon as possible. But something very important is that we stay true to ourselves and our style, and we believe that we can be a tough nut to crack for any team. We will not let France push us around."

Didier Deschamps on his relatively inexperienced side: “I trust those players. It is not going to be a handicap. On the contrary. I knew it was a young team; 14 players do not know what a World Cup is. But, of course, in four years’ time, they will then have the experience.”
Big news from the France camp as Olivier Giroud returns to the starting line-up in place of Ousmane Dembele. Blaise Matuidi too returns to replace Corentin Tolisso

France vs Peru: Team News

France's talismanic attacker Antoine Griezmann picked up a knock in the side's win against Australia but he has been passed fit. Didier Deschamps could make a few changes though to rejuvenate their stuttering attack. Olivier Giroud is expected to return to the starting XI possibly in place of Kylian Mbappe. Corentin Tolisso too looked out of sorts in the opener and Blaise Matuidi could slot in into the midfield, allowing Paul Pogba more creative license to thrill.
Pavard had a mixed outing against the Socceroos but is expected to retain his place in the side.

Peru were brilliant in their opening fixture against Denmark but were let down by misfiring attackers. Captain Paolo Guerrero came off the bench in their first game but should start this all-important encounter. Christian Cueva missed from the spot against the Danes but did enough to warrant a place in the side today.

France vs Peru: Probable lineups

France Probable XI: Lloris; Pavard, Umtiti, Varane, Hernandez; Kante, Pogba, Matuidi; Dembele, Griezmann, Giroud.

Peru Probable XI: Gallese; Advincula, Rodriguez, Ramos, Trauco; Yotun, Tapia, Cueva, Farfan, Carillo, Guerrero.

France vs Peru: Form Guide

France: W-W-W-D-W
Didier Deschamps' side were as poor as poor can get in their opening group game and there is only one way left for them - UP.

Peru: W-W-W-D-L
Peru, meanwhile, until their 1-0 defeat to Denmark, hadn't lost a game since late 2016 and will be look to their past record for inspiration when they take on Les Bleus

France vs Peru: Head to Head

The two sides' only meeting came in a friendly way back in 1982, Peru pipping their hosts by a solitary goal.

France vs Peru - Key Players

Paul Pogba: Pogba found more of his United form for France and struggled to make plays against a well-structured Australian defence. However, he did manage to eke out the winner god only knows how. If Peru provide him with any sort of space whatsoever in the final third, he will punish them.
Paolo Guerrero: The Peruvian captain sparkled after coming off the bench against Denmark and against a lacklustre French defence, he could run riot.

France vs Peru Prediction

Predicted scoreline: France 3-1 Peru

France cannot possibly play as poorly as they did in their first game while Peru cannot get much better. All that adds up to just 1 possible outcome for me - a comfortable France win. There will be goals and it's just a matter of how many Griezmann and co. can muster up.
3-1 to France for me.
