Germany U17
FT
2 - 1
Costa Rica U17
J. Arp 21'
N. Awuku 89'
64' A. Gómez
...
Germany currently top Group C with this win.
...
Noah Awuku proved to be the difference but Costa Rica's Faerron would kick himself for failing to clear the ball. Germany start their U17 World Cup with a win but it was far from convincing. That's all from us here. Until next time, goodbye!
...
Full-time: Germany 2-1 Costa Rica
...
90+3' Another save from Montenegro! Cetin with a left-footed effort from close range but Montenegro's left foot makes the vital intervention as Costa Rica inch towards defeat. It's been a bit unfortunate, but as they say - 22 players play for 90 minutes and in the end the Germans win. It's been that kind of a day forLos Ticos.
...
90' Late drama here as Awuku punishes Costa Rica for some comical defending. His finish into the bottom corner is the difference now; can Germany hold onto it for the remaining 4 minutes of stoppage time?
...
89' GOOOOAAAALLLLL GERMANY!
...
86' Cetin with a FK from a central position (again!) and he shoots straight at Montenegro. It looked like he was preparing for an effort of more conviction but the end result is the same as Germany run out of time to score a goal here.
...
84' Boller with a poor ball out from the back and Abarca pounces, intercepting it inside the Germany half before hitting a shot from distance which is well over the bar. It's end to end at the moment.
...
80' Abarca with a fine run on the counter but he dallies too long on the ball before hitting the killer pass and the chance goes begging. Costa Rica, however, earn a freekick which is a wasted chance, yet again.
...
78' A tired Arp has lost his sharpness and fouls Montenegro as he reaches for a ball. Germany are desperate for a goal and it is showing now.
...
76' Germany are really pushing for the winner here. Yeboah with a explosive run but his cross is cleared away for a corner, from which Arp's glancing header goes well wide of target.
...
74' Bustamante OFF Cordero ON for Costa Rica
...
71' Awuku with the golden touch there, almost! The substitute got on the end of Kuhn's well-directed FK but he barely gets a touch on the ball and blazes it over. That was a chance for Germany to retake the lead.
...
70' Germany make their final change as Abouchabaka is off.
...
68' Some uneasiness in the German camp as Costa Rica show more energy after that equaliser. They are getting to every second ball first and unsettling their opponents.
...
64' Germany have been made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal as Andres Gomez equalises. It was a shoddy piece of defending from the Germans as they completely switched off in their defensive organisation in that move, partly because of the two new players on the pitch.
...
64' GOOOOOAAAALLL COSTA RICA!!!
...
62' Another change for Germany as Pascal Becker replaces Hackethal.
...
61' Dennis comes off for Awuku as Germany make their 1st change.
...
59' Kuhn with a mazy run that almost takes him to the Costa Rican goal. After Arce's brilliant bit of defending, it's time to head to the other extreme for Los Ticos. The defenders were virtually ball watching as Kuhn made inroads but his final ball to Arp was somehow cleared. Germany need to be more clinical.
...
55' What a brilliant piece of defending as Germany must be thinking why the scoreline is still 0-0. Arce with a block from Yeboah's shot from point-blank range as Costa Rica survive again.
...
53' Arp with a FK from a central area and blazes over!
...
51' What a save by Plogmann!

Costa Rica suddenly get on the counter and Alfaro's poor day in front of goal continues. The skipper hits his shot straight at the German GK and he parries it away.
...
49' Yeboah initiates a fine Germany counterattack and Arp skilfully gets into the danger zone but his square ball to Kuhn is underhit and Arias intervenes. Germany have started from where they left off in the 1st half.
...
46' The 2nd half kicks off in a more sedate manner as Germany immediately go on the attack. Arp with the 1st shot of the half from Dennis' cutback but the striker drags his shot wide.
...

Half-time: Germany 1-0 Costa Rica

Arp should've scored more than one but Costa Rica are barely hanging on now. Los Ticos had the better start but Germany slowly imposed themselves on their opponent as the game progressed. Arp's well-finished goal is the difference right now, will Costa RIca put up a fight in the 2nd half?
...
43' This might be CRC's best chance as the halftime approaches and Keitel fouls Castro. However, they fluff their chance with a poorly coordinated short FK and Germany clear.
...
41' Abouchabaka with another shot and this time it's closer to goal but the referee calls offside due to an infringement up front.
...
39' Arias fouls Yeboah there and Germany earn a FK. A short FK leads to Abouchabaka taking a shot which is well off target.
...
35' Kuhn is now booked for a late challenge on Faerron. 1st booking for Germany as Costa Rica finally get a chance to have the ball inside the German half.
...
30' We are into the 30th minute and Germany have slowly settled into their possession-heavy football. Costa Rica remain a threat on the break with their tricksters like Josue Abarca and Andres Gomez.
...
28' Costa Rica have been pushed back inside their own half but that almost set up a goal for them. A long ball almost released Gomez but Plogmann, the German GK, reads the situation well and comes out to head it away. Gomez, however, has been pulled up for dangerous play and is booked.
...
25' Walter Cortes has been flagged for a foul in a central area as Germany eye another goal from a FK. Elias Abouchabaka takes this one but hits it straight at Montenegro. The distance from goal was a bit to far for a direct FK it appeared.
...
23' Wonderful gesture from Arp to dedicate the goal to injured teammate Ludwig by raising his no 15 shirt during celebrations.
...
20' Jann-Fiete Arp with the opener for Germany as his dinked finish nestles in the back of the net. It was a fine through ball to begin with and Fiete Arp had very little to do apart from his first touch and the finishing one. Wonderful goal, the first World Cup goal in Goa!!
...
20' GOOOOOAAAALLLLL!
...
20' Costa Rica with a lot of the ball in the past minute or two but Germany have done well to keep them away from goal. The Europeans are really coming to terms now and they lead!
...
16' Captain Fiete Arp might just have read that one as he is a lace away from putting Germany in front. The striker fails to connect properly to Kuhn's low cross as Costa Rica survive.
...
16' It's been pretty even so far but Germany should be better than Costa Rica, shouldn't they?
...
14' Costa Rica seem to be exploiting the German defenders' lack of decision-making on the ball. They try to play out from the back but the ball circulation is woefully slow.
