GOA vs CHE Match Result - ISL 2018-19
Goa
1 - 0
FT
Chennaiyin
Coro 26'
Full time.
So Chennaiyin's campaign ends with another defeat. The ISL 2017-18 champions finish bottom of the table with just 9 points in their 18 matches.
Goa, on the other hand, go into the semifinals high on confidence. They will play their ISL semis on March 9 and 12 but their opponents - between NorthEast United and Mumbai City - will be decided within the next 2 days.
That clean sheet was Goa's 8th and they are the side who have kept the most clean sheets this season.
Goa party now but Chennaiyin will be back in action in the AFC Cup, where they will play Colombo FC in a two-legged qualifier.
That's it from me, Aravind Suchindran. Log onto Sportskeeda for our full coverage of the ISL and I-League.
90+5' Zaid Krouch runs on the far side and retrieves the pass from Lenny.
His cross back into the box is poor but Goa win possession again and it flows towards Lenny Rodrigues at the left post. His shot, however, is poor.
90+2' Brandon Fernandes is frustrated that Mailson puts a stop to his run. He goes up and slides into Anirudh Thapa, earning himself a card.
Yellow - Brandon Fernandes (FC Goa)
Zaid Krouch, meanwhile, is back on the field.
Five minutes added.
90' Zaid Krouch is stretchered off the field and Goa will play their last few minutes with 10 men.
Chennaiyin bring in fresh legs.
OFF - Laldinliana Renthlei
ON - Mohammed Rafi
88' Zaid Krouch gets at the end of a pass and tries to shoot but it's nowhere near the target.
And now, he seems to have pulled his hamstring.
85' Brandon is causing a lot of trouble in the Chennaiyin box.
First, he runs across before being stopped by Mailson. Seconds later, he decides to go on his own from the left and fires but the ball rolls across and goes out.
79' Substitution - FC Goa
OFF - Manvir Singh
ON - Jackichand Singh
77' CLOSE!
Jackichand
finds Corominas with a peach of a pass, splitting the Chennaiyin FC defence up.
The defenders don't realise Coro is behind them and he tries to guide it in but it's gone out from the tight angle.
76' Substitution - Chennaiyin FC
OFF - CK Vineeth
ON - Thoi Singh
75' SAVE!
Naveen Kumar
stretches and flaps that cross by Gregory Nelson away.
It's not a clean pick but it's enough for the Goan defenders for a clearance.
73' A late challenge by Tondonba Singh to snap the counter after that poor free-kick. Yellow for that.
Yellow - Tondonba Singh (Chennaiyin FC)
72' Mohamed Ali's first contribution is gifting Chennaiyin a free-kick down on the left.
Gregory Nelson, who was fouled, takes.
69' Substitution - FC Goa
OFF - Seriton Fernandes
ON - Mohamed Ali
68' MISS!
Chris Herd with a golden opportunity for Chennaiyin, he makes a mess of it.
Herd had won the free-kick and was lurking at the far post but when the time came for him to unleash it, he fires it above and beyond!
67' Zaid Krouch goes flying into Herd and is carded for it.
Yellow - Zaid Krouch (Goa)
66' Substitution - Chennaiyin FC
OFF - Isaac Vanmalsawma
ON - Gregory Nelson
66' Another yellow or a Chennaiyin player and he deserves it for that challenge on Zaid Krouch.
Yellow - Raphael Augusto (Chennaiyin FC)
63' Brandon immediately gets into the thick of the action with a shot from distance but it's just inches wide!
62' Substitution - FC Goa
OFF - Brandon Fernandes
ON - Edu Bedia
57' Herd enters the referee's book for a rash tackle.
Yellow - Chris Herd (Chennaiyin FC)
56' MAILSON!
Jackichand with a testing ball from the right to Corominas but Mailson comes up with a crucial interception and prevents a sure-shot goal.
54' Raphael Augusto gives away a free-kick on the right and the Goan defenders run up for it.
No problem for Chennaiyin as Jahouh takes and hits it straight at Karanjit!
49' CLOSE!
Off a corner, Mailson towers over the FC Goa defence to glance it towards goal. Sensing that it will go out, Jeje tries to change the angle with another header but it's miscued.
48' The first card of the game and it's shown at Seriton, who lands a foot on Chris Herd.
Yellow - Seriton Fernandes (FC Goa)
46' Second half underway in Fatorda. Jackichand immediately goes for goal but his shot is wayward.
Half time at Fatorda and Goa are leading over the bottom-placed side in the ISL.
Corominas with the goal in the 26th minute, which was amazingly set up by Jackichand Singh and Ahmed Jahouh.
Chennaiyin failed to make their chances count and go into the break trailing.
Can they put up a better show in the second half? Stay tuned to find out.
45' Goa escape!
Lenny Rodrigues gives away the ball in the defensive third and Chennaiyin move up. Raphael Augusto finds Anirudh Thapa on the right but before the midfielder can get a shot in, Mourtada Fall slides in with a wonderful tackle.
42' CHANCE!
Ferran Corominas
pounces on the poor clearance and plays it through to Edu Bedia on the left but the Spaniard's attempt is poor and goes over the bar.
37' Jackichand floats a cross in for Zaid Krouch from the right but he lets the ball go past him.
Edu Bedia on the far side regains possession for Goa but he's fouled by Laldinliana.
33' Chennaiyin threaten but it's a half-hearted attempt and Saviour Gama saves the day for Goa.
29' DANGER!
Eli Sabia has to get involved to prevent Seriton Fernandes from getting at the end of that through-ball by Corominas. Goa hungry for more.
26' GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLL.
Ferran Corominas
gets Goa going and it's his 15th goal of the season.
The marking is poor and he's all by himself in the centre of the box to easily place it behind Karanjit Singh.
Jackichand with a beauty of a pass, just taking that long ball from Ahmed Jahouh and playing it up for Coro there.
Goa lead and it's not at all surprising.
21' LETS IT FLY!
Jeje chests the ball down at the centre of the box and sets himself up for a shot. But he aims it over the bar and wastes the opportunity!
19' CHANCE!
Ferran Corominas this time for Goa. He waits for the defenders to commit, turns and finds the goal in front of him.
But the shot from the edge of the box is poor and Karanjit collects it easily.
16' CLEARED!
Raphael Augusto tries to unleash it but Goa's Chinglensana Singh comes up with a timely challenge to prevent the Chennaiyin player from scoring!.
13' SHOT!
Jeje Lalpekhlua takes a poke at the goal but it doesn't trouble Naveen Kumar at all. Better from Chennaiyin, who suddenly move up the field.
11' FOUL!
Saviour Gama, who's playing this game in place of captain Mandar Rao Dessai, clips Laldinliana and concedes a free-kick.
But Goa quickly get the ball again.
6' It's the turn of Chennaiyin with the ball but Goa apply pressure and regain the ball.
No attempt by either side so far.
3' Goa controlling the possession, building the play from the back.
The defenders exchange passes and move up.
1' PEEEEEP!
This will be Chennaiyin FC's last game as the ISL holders.
Goa look to pile the misery on their arch-rivals from the word go.
National Anthem done.
Team photos clicked.
Time for kick-off.
Target achieved.
Sergio Lobera's problem with FC Goa wasn't goalscoring. It was about keeping their defences tight. This time, Lobera thinks Goa have improved a lot in that department.
"At the beginning of the season, one of my goals was to improve the team defensively. Now we are one of those teams who have kept the maximum number of clean sheets this season. We have the best goal difference. So, I think I achieved my goal. We have sealed the play-off spot with two games to go," Lobera said before the Goa v Chennaiyin ISL Live match.
Ferran Corominas, with 14 goals, has a two-goal cushion over Modou Sougou of Mumbai City and Bartholomew Ogbeche of NorthEast United. He will look to build a further lead in the golden boot race.
No Carlos Pena for FC Goa against Chennaiyin FC tonight. Chinglesana Singh will be the central defender.
Zaid Krouch comes in for Brandon Fernandes. There's also Saviour Gama in the line-up for Mandar Rao Dessai.
Chennaiyin's XI unchanged.
Goa Bench: Laxmikant Kattimani (GK), Mohamed Ali, Nirmal Chettri, Brandon Fernandes, Pratesh Shirodkar, Liston Colaco, Manvir Singh

Chennaiyin Bench: Sanjiban Ghosh, Zohmingliana Ralte, Francisco Fernandes, Germanpreet Singh, Gregory Nelson, Thoi Singh, Mohammed Rafi
Line-ups:

Goa Playing XI: Naveen Kumar (GK), Seriton Fernandes, Mourtada Fall, Chinglensana Singh, Saviour Gama, Ahmed Jahouh, Zaid Krouch, Edu Bedia, Lenny Rodrigues, Jackichand Singh, Ferran Corominas

Chennaiyin Playing XI: Karanjit Singh (GK), Mailson Alves, Eli Sabia, Tondonba Singh, Laldinliana Renthlei, Chris Herd, Isaac Vanmalsawma, Anirudh Thapa, Raphael Augusto, Jeje Lalpekhlua, CK Vineeth
In the 2017-18 ISL season, Jeje Lalpekhlua had 7 goals. This time, he has scored just 1. Chennaiyin need to get better prolific goalscorers.
However, Goa have won just 1 home match against Chennaiyin FC. Given the form Chennaiyin are in right now, one cannot rule out Goa improving that record.
Home sweet home
Goa have claimed 20 out of a possible 24 points at home. They have also conceded the joint-least number of goals at home - 7 - with Bengaluru FC.
Chennaiyin FC have conceded the second highest goals in away matches - 14. Only Kerala Blasters have let in more (18).
Will Goa humiliate Chennaiyin?
If Chennaiyin lose this match against Goa, they will equal NorthEast's 2017-18 season record for the most number of losses in an ISL season at 13.
Tough to break.
Goa have kept the most clean sheets this season - 7. Even Mumbai City and NorthEast United have 7 clean sheets. They will be looking to make it eight in the Goa v Chennaiyin ISL Live match.
Goa have qualified for the semifinals four times in five seasons of the ISL. They are clearly the most consistent team but will be looking to clinch that elusive ISL trophy this season.
Not interested in sharing the spoils.
There have been 12 matches between these two sides and only once have these two drawn with each other.
It's unlikely tonight's Goa v Chennaiyin ISL Live match will end in a draw.
Probable Line-ups:

Goa Probable XI:
Naveen Kumar (GK), Carlos Pena, Seriton Fernandes, Mohamed Ali, Lenny Rodrigues, Zaid Krouch, Brandon Fernandes, Mandar Rao Dessai (C), Hugo Boumous, Ferran Corominas, Manvir Singh

Chennaiyin FC Probable XI: Karanjit Singh (GK), Tondonba Singh, Mailson Alves (C), Eli Sabia, Laldinliana Renthlei, Christopher Herd, Anirudh Thapa, Raphael Augusto, Gregory Nelson, CK Vineeth, Jeje Lalpekhlua
Goa v Chennaiyin ISL Preview:

Goa will look to secure the second spot on the Indian Super League (ISL) table with a win over bottom-placed Chennaiyin FC in their final league match at the Fatorda Stadium on Thursday.

Goa are on 31 points in 17 matches and cannot overtake Bengaluru in the points table. They, however, can avoid meeting Bengaluru in the ISL semifinals if with a win or a draw against Chennaiyin.

Having lost both their matches to Bengaluru, Goa would like to avoid meeting them in the semifinals. The table toppers will play the fourth-placed team in the first of the two-legged semifinals, while the other one will involve the second-placed and third-placed clubs.

One point will take Goa to 32, making it impossible for fourth-placed NorthEast United to steal their spot. Mumbai are currently one point behind Goa.

Finishing the job against Chennaiyin will not be a big task for Goa, the highest goalscorers in the ISL with 35 goals. Chennaiyin, on the other hand, have scored the least number of goals - 16 and even if they take 3 points from the match, they are sure to finish bottom as ninth-placed Kerala Blasters are five points ahead.

While the match is inconsequential in terms of the playoffs spot, it's quite important for Goa to set up a match against Mumbai. The Gaurs have a great record of winning games against Mumbai but hold a poor run against Bengaluru. Goa won't mind meeting NorthEast United as well.

Sergio Lobera could rest some of his key players for the game. John Gregory's Chennaiyin have got nothing to prove in the ISL but they kick-off their AFC Cup campaign with a playoff tie against Colombo FC on March 6 and 13.

The game against Goa will be a good chance for Chennaiyin to fix the chunks in their armour. It will help new signings CK Vineeth and Chris Herd hit confidence just before the Asian competition.

Goa might hand a chance to Manvir Singh and Zaid Krouch, handing star striker Ferran Corominas and midfielder Edu Bedia much-deserved rest before the playoffs.

When and where to watch: The FC Goa v Chennaiyin FC ISL Live match will be streamed live on Hotstar. TV Telecast on Star Sports Network. The kick-off is at 7.30 pm IST.
