GOA vs MUM Match Result - Indian Super League
90' Adam Le Fondre
That's a wrap for today! Big thanks for staying till the end, it was a delight bringing you all the latest updates from the match as it happened. This is me, Mohak Arora signing off for today, stay tuned to Sportskeeda for more post-match reaction coming up shortly.
Adam le Fondre's late winner bags three crucial points for the Islanders as they open their points account for the season. FC Goa would be disappointed with only a single point from two matches that saw them deliver two excellent performances.
Credit to Juan Ferrando's men for staying in the match till the last whistle despite playing more than a half with a man down, both the sides had almost equal possession during the match. While Mumbai had 13 shots, Goa had to be content with 10 as they found it tough to attack with 10 men.
90+7' FULL TIME WHISTLES FROM THE REFEREE!! That's the end of the dramatic match and what a fitting dramatic end that was as an unnecessary handball provided Adam le Fondre with a golden chance to win 3 points for his side and he did exactly the same as Sergio Lobera bags three points at the Fatorda Stadium on another occassion.
90+5' Adam le Fondre's penalty goes at a good pace into the right hand bottom corner of the goal despite Nawaz getting a finger on it. It's a crucial first goal for le Fondre in ISL as he wins his side 3 crucial points.
90+3' Ivan Gonzalez bundles Hernan Santana in the middle of the park and the referee signals advantage as a cross from Cy Goodard finds Bipin whose header is blocked by the arm of a Goan player. Penalty awarded by the referee! LATE LATE DRAMA HERE!
90' Five minutes added on by the fourth official. Edu Bedia receiving treatment on the ground in the meanwhile. Goa players wasting time unnecessarily as the manager looks happy with a point here.
89' A lovely flick tricking Saviour Gama and then a step in and a curler from le Fondre is handled well by Mohamad Nawaz in goal.
88' Adam le Fondre gets on the end of a cross from Bipin and heads it down but Bartholomew Ogbeche's positioning is not excellent and he misses out on getting his side a lead.
85' Alberto Noguera makes way for Princeton Rebello in FC Goa's third change for the night.
84' Mandar Rao Dessai taken off with Bipin coming on for him as Lobera makes his fourth change of the night.
83' Mumbai is trying to attack from the right side with Rakip delivering pinpoint crosses one after another but strikers have been misfiring along with their awkward first touches giving away the ball.
79' Mohamad Rakip finds Adam le Fondre at the edge of the box with a good cross and the striker rockets it away into the stands. DISAPPOINTING!!
76' The players have had their last drinks break of the match and it is all to play for in the last 15 minutes plus stoppage time now!
75' Adam le Fondre is at the end of a precision pass and he delivers a delicious cross in the six-yard box and finds Mandar Rao Dessai who shins it over the bar from 3 yards out with Mohamed Nawaz completely beaten. SHOCKING!!
73' Alexander Romario Jesuraj tucks back Mandar Rao Dessai's sleeve and then kicks the ball away after the referee blew the whistle. Yellow card shown for unruly behavior!
71' Mumbai City FC makes a trio of changes here as Lobera is trying to shake things up from the sidelines
Amey Ranawade, Mourtada Fall, and Farukh Choudhary go off the field
Mohamad Rakip, Bartholomew Ogbeche, and Vignesh D come on to the field
65' Amey Ranawade slides in with a challenge, touches the ball but gets Noguera as well and bundles him just outside the penalty area. Promising position for a free-kick. Ortiz fires it a bit wide, got it over the wall and dipped back in but off target.
62' Second change for FC Goa as Igor Angulo is replaced by Jorge Ortiz. Good squad management by Ferrando who is making sure everyone gets enough game time and enough rest at the same time.
61' Another attacking move from Mumbai City as Hugo Boumous shot is deflected off Bedia's leg and hits the arms of Donachie, no penalty given by the referee and it's seems like a fair decision!
59' Amey Ranawade's cross is intercepted and cleared by James Donachie, Hugo Boumous restores the attacking move and takes a shot that is well saved by Nawaz. First shot on target for Mumbai City FC in this ISL season.
58' FC Goa are playing at a much faster pace now and Lobera's side are finding it tough to match them even with a extra man on the field.
56' An excellent save from Amrinder Singh as Edu Bedia took a shot from long range but palmed away by the goalkeeper. The resulting corner falls to Angulo whose shot is again saved by Singh from point-blank range, what goalkeeping this is from the Islanders custodian.
55' First change of the night as Len Doungel is replaced by Alexander Romario Jesuraj
53' Cy Goodard wins a corner for his side after his penalty appeal was turned down. Short corner taken and dealt with by the Goa defense. Mohamed Nawaz ends up with the ball at his feet with le Fondre closing down and the goalkeeper shoots the ball straight at the striker's hand luckily and the referee signals for a Goa free kick.
50' Farukh Choudhary goes down in the penalty area and the referee waves the play on asking the Blues midfielder to stand up and move on.
48' The second half has kicked off and Mumbai City don't seem to give the ball away and FC Goa force a counter-attack all of a sudden and Igor Angulo takes the shot and it goes a bit wide.
The players are walking out once again on the pitch and the second half is just a few minutes away now! It will be interesting to see what approach both teams take now given the numerical imbalance between them.
Sergio Lobera would relish the numerical advantage and with a striker like Bartholomew Ogbeche on his bench, the cards are in his hands while Juan Ferrando would definitely like to walk away with at least a point here with his side down to 10 men.
The first half hour was dominated by FC Goa as their silky passes saw Goa create a lot more chances compared to Mumbai City. After the drinks break, we saw a lot of fouls, one of which was punished with a straight red card as Redeem Tiang was sent off on his FC Goa debut by the referee.
45+3' That's HALF TIME!! What a first half of a football match that was, we witnessed no goals but the match hasn't lacked action as we saw a red card being flashed out to Redeem Tiang in the 40th minute. Will that change the match's complexion?
45' Farukh Choudhary finds Mandar Rao Dessai in the Goa penalty area but the former Goa skipper doesn't get the ball in control and the Goa defense clears it! 3 minutes added.
43' Mumbai City FC now trying to pile the pressure on before Goa get a half-time break and are allowed to regroup and come out with a different plan for the second half.
40' THAT'S A STRAIGHT RED CARD!!! Redeem Tiang sent off for going in with a two-footed challenge on Hernan Santana. Goa have been dominant in the first 40 minutes but going a man down will certainly change the tactics of both the teams here.
39' The players are getting frustrated as the clock ticks on! The no. of fouls have been increasing in the last few minutes
33' Mandar Rao Dessai catches his old pal Seriton Fernandes clumsily and he is shown a yellow card. The medical team steps in to assess the Goan right-back. A Bedia free-kick flies over the six-yard box, misses everyone and it's a goal kick!
32' A free-kick from Santana is caught by Mohamed Nawaz with ease and he throws it out, certainly better distribution from the Gaurs keeper today than the last match.
30' Seriton Fernandes shown a yellow card for kneeing Hugo Boumous in the face, very lucky to get only a yellow there although it did seem like a collision of sorts. Drinks Break called!
29' End to end play as Len Doungel loses the ball in the Mumbai penalty area and then a long ball is cleared away by James Donachie away from the on-rushing Cy Goodard.
25' It's a yellow card for Sarthak Golui as he fouls Noguera just outside the penalty area. Edu Bedia to take the free-kick and his curler is straight into the gloves of Amrinder Singh.
24' More than a quarter of the match has been played out and FC Goa is definitely looking the sharper side of the two on the field. Juan Ferrando would definitely like a lead going into the half-time break.
22' Lenny Rodrigues tries a shot from 25 yards out and scuffs his shot quite wide of the target, what a waste!
20' Creative players like Hugo Boumous, Len Doungel, and Cy Goodard are looking very rusty, owing to the lack of a proper pre-season most probably.
18' Rowlin Borges loses the ball and then gets back well to block Albert Noguera's first shot on goal today.
15' The ball hit the referee and FC Goa has a free kick 30 yards away from the goal, intercepted well by Fall and cleared away!
13' Farukh Choudhary's silky touches finds him behind the Goa defenders and he wins a corner for what was a goal kick for sure! Resulting corner is easily cleared by the Goa defenders.
11' Mandar Rao Dessai gets on the end of a long ball and tries to put in a cross before hugging the touchline, intercepted and cleared by the Goa defense.
8' String of excellent passes see Igor Angulo with the ball 12 yards from goal but his shot is blocked and the Gaurs get a corner. James Donachie fouls Rowlin Borges from the resulting corner, free kick awarded by the referee.
6' Igor Angulo caught offside as he is looking to play on the shoulders of Fall and Golui, needs to time his runs better!
4' Foul in the middle of the park as Lenny Rodrigues goes down under the challenge of Adam le Fondre. Farukh Choudhary pressed well and almost forced a mistake out of the FC Goa defense.
2' Both the teams are looking to attack as soon as they get the ball. We are in for an interesting match, that's for sure!
1' We kick off! Rahul Kumar Gupta blows the whistle and the ball is rolling
The players are walking out on the pitch, time for the National Anthem followed by a coin toss.
Plenty of names on both benches that can change the match on their own
FC Goa subs: Naveen Kumar, Alexander Romario Jesuraj, Brandon Fernandes, Jorge Ortiz, Princeton Rebello, Makan Chote, Mohamed Ali, Aiban Dohling, Sanson Pereira
Mumbai City subs: Phurba Lachenpa, Sourav Das, Mehtab Singh, Mohamad Rakip, Bipin Singh, Pranjal Bhumij, Hmingthanmawia, Vignesh D, Bartholomew Ogbeche
Let's have a look at the starting XIs once again
FC Goa: Mohamad Nawaz, Seriton Fernandes, Ivan Gonzalez, James Donachie, Saviour Gama, Edu Bedia, Lenny Rodrigues, Len Doungel, Alberto Noguera, Redeem Tiang, Igor Angulo
Mumbai City FC: Amrinder Singh, Amey Ranawade, Sarthak Golui, Mourtada Fall, Mandar Rao Dessai, Rowlin Borges, Hernan Santana, Cy Goodard, Hugo Boumous, Farukh Choudhary, Adam le Fondre
We are half an hour away from the kickoff and the players are warming up ahead of the big fixture.
Three changes for FC Goa as Saviour Gama, Alberto Noguera, and Redeem Tiang replace Sanson Periera, Jorge Ortiz, and Princeton Rebello in the starting XI.
Four changes for Mumbai City FC as Mourtada Fall, Cy Goodard, Amey Ranawade and Farukh Choudhary come in for Ahmed Jahouh, Raynier Fernandes, Mohamad Rakip, and Bartholomew Ogbeche as Adam le Fondre moves to his preferred centre-forward position.
While FC Goa made a brilliant comeback against Bengaluru FC and bagged a crucial point, Mumbai City FC failed to open their points account against NorthEast United FC and both the sides would be looking to win all 3 points today.
In 14 matches between the two clubs, the Gaurs have 7 wins while the Islanders have only 4 wins with 3 matches ending as a stalemate between the two sides.
Star strikers Bartholomew Ogbeche and Adam le Fondre would be hoping to score their maiden goals for Mumbai City after the duo failed to get a single shot on target against NorthEast United FC on Saturday.
Igor Angulo scored a brace on his ISL debut and he would be leading the line once again for the Gaurs with another debutant in Ivan Gonzalez also impressing at the back as he snuffed out danger on multiple occasions. Young Indian forwards Ishan Pandita and Redeem Tiang can also make their debuts for FC Goa from the bench against the Islanders.
FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando would also make some changes to his starting line-up with Brandon Fernandes, Alberto Noguera, Saviour Gama, Aiban Dohling, and Alexander Romario Jesuraj more than deserving of the spot in the starting XI.
Lobera would be looking to make some changes to the team that lost 1-0 to NorthEast United with Mourtada Fall and Farukh Choudhary expected to replace the suspended Ahmed Jahouh and the injured Raynier Fernandes respectively.
Former manager Sergio Lobera comes back to Fatorda Stadium where he enchanted the FC Goa fans and made them fall in love with his brand of football but he will be back in the blue colors of Mumbai City FC. Also returning are former skipper Mandar Rao Dessai, Mourtada Fall, and Hugo Boumous with Ahmed Jahouh suspended due to the straight red card he picked up against NorthEast United FC.
