Well, that was weird.
Pune bossed the game in the early stages and took the lead deservedly through Arata Izumi when Lucca's save bounced off the post onto his path. Then a defensive gaffe from Gouramangi Singh handed Goa the equaliser as Raffael held strong and finished calmly.
From them on, Pune barely saw the ball but Goa could do nothing with all their possession. A sucker blow then hit Zico when Pune substitute Momar Ndoye sold Lucio the simplest of dummies (this really has to be classified as a defensive error) and lashed a brilliant, un-saveable finish into the top corner at the near post.
Momo Sissoko was immense throughout, and he bossed the midfield for large phases of the game; and Habas will be happy with his marquee signing, Lucca, and Tato played.
Zico has a major headache here, Goa were poor - no other word for it - and need to pull up their socks sharpish if they aren't to have a nightmare of a season.
It was a decent game tonight, and it was fun bringing it to you guys!
Thanks for reading, goodnight.
Anirudh Menon signing out. Toodle-ooo!
Peep! Peep! FULLTIME!!!
GOA 1 - 2 PUNE.
That was weird, by the end of it all
95' Joffre's corner is absolute crap. The ball trickles out to Tavora, whose shot fizzes out high above the crossbar
94' Tavora has a snapshot that is deflected off for a corner. It was a good attempt from the young Goan
93' Romeo creates some space in the box again, but his ball in is behind everyone in blue. Poor that from everyone in Goa shirt
92' I have no idea why the Goans are passing the ball about the back man. My colleague Rohit sitting next to me is screaming at the TV for Goa to pump it in. They really ought to
5 minutes added on
Oh Lucio. The big man is turned about as easily as it can get - he should all the agility of a one legged elephant there - and Ndoye's shot is superbly struck into the top corner of the net.
That was terrible defending, but some sublime finishing. Out of nowhere, Pune lead
89' You know those nets that litter the Goan coastline? Well, the fisherman will be in for a surprise tomorrow as they'll find a ball nestling in them. Julius Cesar's shot would have seen to that
88' Goa are coming forward in floods again, but Julio Cesar's ball through belongs on a kindergarten ground.
88' SUBSTITUTION - Traore ON, Anibal OFF
87' Romeo - who has looked so lively since coming on - attempts to play in Julius, but the burly striker dilly dallies on the ball and Pune have the ball \back
86' Balmuchu is down with cramp. It's hot, humid, and the levels of fitness of these lads are nowhere near the desired levels.
85' Joffre's turn now. YELLOW for the Goan midfielder as he fouls Sissoko. These two have well and truly been in the thick of things today
84' YELLOW for Sissoko. FINALLY!! The man had been asking for it all day!!
83' Raffael has a superb shot at goal, that Edel does well to save.
81' Zico agrees with my assessment of things here. Hah, major boost to the ego or what? SUBSTITUTION - Dessai OFF, Tavora ON
80' Mandar Dessai runs into the Pune middle like a headless chicken. It's a nonsensical run there - the kind of selfishness that would earn you a whack from your P.E. teacher - and Pune have the ball right back.
79' SUBSTITUTION - Raju OFF, Narayan Das ON. Raju had cramped up there, and Pune didn't have much of a choice but to make the change
78' OH JULIUS! The striker will be kicking himself, as he can't find any power at all on his header
77' As if stung by my criticism (as if) Romeo Fernandes embarks on a tricky run that almost creates something. Exactly the kind of bravado this game required
76' Nothing of any import happening on the field right now. It's all a bit testy out there - let's hope it's the calm before the storm eh?
73' Mandar rao Dessai, who has been awfully quiet today, flies into the advertising boards and needs medical attention. It's nothing a bit of ointment can't fix though
72' Joffre is tailing off here, his passes have all the accuracy of a drunk man.
71' Edel isn't really fit. It's Ferreira who is taking the goal kicks. Its lumped forward, and runs through to the opposing goalie. Everytime the ball is at the feet of Kattimani, atleast one Pune player is rushing in to apply pressure. But he's holding strong, and in this instance clears the ball well
70' Julius whacks a shot into orbit, but Goa are building up their tempo again.
Before the chance, these SUBSTITUTIONS happened - Julius Caser and N'doye ON for Goa and Pune respectively, Reinaldo and Tato the men off
69' WHAT A VOLLEY FROM TRINDADE. WHAT A SAVE FROM EDEL. Romeo stands up a beautiful little cross, Romeo attempts to karate kick a volley into the goal, but Edel does well to save acrobatically
66' Joffre does so well to run away from Bheke, but his pass is such garbage. Pune counter immediately and Tato creates space in the box before laying it off to Anibal. Lucio comes sliding in and takes out man and ball. THAT REALLY LOOKED LIKE A PENALTY!!! But the Ref waves play ON!!!
65' Sissoko has been really good here. A long ball from him drops at the feet of Tato, and the away side are boxing Goa inside their own half.
64' Just as I type that Trindade goes on a rampage down the right, but it's well cleared by Raju
63' Nothing much is happening here.
61' Lets take a moment here and appreciate the mental strength of Laxmikant Kattimani. Normal men would have crumbled after that nightmare outing against NorthEast, but goalkeepers really are an extraordinary breed
60' OH ANIBAL!!! Superb play from Sissoko releases the Mexican-Spanish striker, and he does exceptionally well to sell Lucio a dummy. Kattimani comes out really well to smother the striker's shot, and the ball dribbles away from Danger. Lucca almost immediately brings play back to the Goa goalmouth, but his fierce shot is saved well by Kattimani
58' It's getting very scrappy out in the middle, the slippery pitch is surely not helping. Edel seems to have recovered from his injury, as he jumps high and well to claim a long ball in from Joffre
57' It's pouring cats and dogs and here. *momentary nostalgia trip for your live blogger* - is there a better feeling in the world than playing football in the rain?
56' OH THIS IS BAD NEWS FOR PUNE. Edel kicks the ball out of play and goes down clutching his right knee. The keeper who won the ISL with Kolkata AND Chennai looks okay now, but Habas' heart will be in his mouth right now
55' That was two gilt-edged chances for Romeo there. He will be absolutely furious with himself
54' OH ROMEO NO! Romeo Fernandes runs through on goal yet again, but his shot is halfway across the Arabian Sea right now.
