FULL TIME! HYDERABAD FC 1-3 CHENNAIYIN FC
Two goals and an assist from Valskis saw Chennai take an insurmountable three-goal lead and Marcelinho scored a consolation but Hyderabad FC slip further to the bottom of the table. Chennai jump to seventh with this win and are now four points behind Mumbai City FC, the front-runners for the fourth position in the top four of the Indian Super League table.
90+1' Marcelinho puts in a blatant foul on Dragos Firtulescu who recently came on for Crivellaro and is rightly shown a yellow card by the referee. Four minutes added by the fourth official.
88' GOOAALL!! Marcelinho scores a consolation goal. Marko Stankovic puts in a simple through ball and the Hyderabad No.10 fires the ball into the roof of the net as the Chennaiyin defense is caught sleeping.
83' Stankovic shows a replay of a shot from the first half as his curling shot goes just wide off Vishal Kaith's far post.
79' Rafael Crivellaro hits the bar! Chhangte runs behind the defense and feeds the Brazilian who does a couple of stepovers before getting his shot away but the bar comes to Kamaljit Singh's rescue.
75' Rahim Ali and Masih Saighani come on for Germanpreet Singh and Andre Schembri as Chennai look to rest on their laurels for the remaining 15 minutes of the match.
74' A yellow card that missed our eyes, Marko Stankovic is booked and will be missing the next match against Odisha FC due to suspension.
73' Last roll of the dice from the Hyderabad head coach as Giles Barnes comes on for Rohit Singh.
70' Phil Brown makes his second change of the night as Nestor Gordillo makes way for Laldanmawia Ralte.
65' GOAAALLLL!! Another excellent goal from Valskis. Hyderabad take a poor throw in and give the ball away and Crivellaro's soft touch sets it up for Valskis who cuts in and curls into the bottom right corner. The match is surely over now.
61' The Chennai defender is able to continue but Hyderabad are making a substitution instead with Bobo being replaced by Mohammed Yasir.
59' Adil Khan, playing in his 50th Indian Super League match tries an acrobatic effort and ends up hitting his boot on the side of the head of Edwin Vanspaul. The defender is receiving medical treatment currently.
58' Chennai are just trying to bide their time as their passing intensity has dropped from the first half.
53' Marcelinho's dangerous cross across the six-yard box hits Kaith's hands and goes towards the other side of the field with Hyderabad players not attacking with intent.
51' Germanpreet Singh is shown a yellow card after receiving several warnings from the referee. First player to be booked on the night.
48' The home side kick off the second half in hopes of making a comeback in this match. A great move from Marcelinho and Nestor Gordillo sees them win a corner.
HALF TIME
Chennaiyin FC leads Hyderabad FC by 2 goals via goals from Crivellaro and Valskis.
The two goals came in the last few minutes of the first half, one via a mistake and one due to the raw class of the Lithunian striker. Hyderabad trail again and Phil Brown has to do it all over again, his job is in danger here.
43' GOAAALL!! Chennaiyin double their lead all of a sudden. Schembri lays the ball off for Nerijus Valskis and the Lithunian No.9 holds off the ball on his own and finds the right corner with his left foot giving no chance to Kamaljit Singh of making a save.
40' GOAAALLL!! A goal out of nowhere. Rafael Crivellaro scores! A misplaced back pass from the otherwise excellent Asish Rai, gifts Valskis an opportunity to go one-on-one with Kamaljit but the No.9 waits for support and squares the ball for him to bundle it into the back of the net.
34' The match has blown off steam with more than half an hour played, only one or two shots have seriously troubled goalkeepers at either end. No bookings till now in the match.
29' A counter-attacking move from Chennaiyin sees Jerry cross in for Crivellaro who takes his time on the ball and releases a rocket-esque shot from his left boot, Kamaljit makes another excellent save.
27' Germanpreet Singh takes a slight nudge on Marcelinho and the Hyderabad captain decides to make a hill out of nothing and screams out forcing the referee to give a warning to the young Indian midfielder.
23' A loose ball falls to Marko Stankovic 25 yards away from goal and the midfielder tries to curl his shot into the far corner but it's well saved by Kaith.
18' Nikhil Poojary runs down the left wing and puts in a cross that is met by Nestor Gordillo but the Spanish winger puts his shot wide off Vishal Kaith's goal.
14' Rafael Crivellaro exchanges a one-two with Schembri inside the 18-yard box but Matthew Kilgallon puts a decent block and stops the Brazilian from getting his shot away.
12' Marcelinho takes a free kick from 30 yards but the ball sails over the goal without troubling Vishal Kaith.
10' The majority of the match is being played in Hyderabad's half with the two-time ISL champions putting on continuous pressure on the bottom placed side in the league.
6' The unmarked Jerry Lalrinzuala gets the ball in the penalty box from the resulting corner and the left back rifles a shot towards the keeper but he makes another good save.
5' Andre Schembri is fed a delicious through ball and the forward tries to chip Kamaljit SIngh in a one-on-one situation but the Hyderabad goalkeeper comes out on top.
3' Chennaiyin kick off. Bobo wins the first corner of the match for the home side. The corner is well delivered by Marcelinho but all his teammates fail to pounce on the opportunity.
The home side is playing in black kits while the away side players are clad in all white. Time for the national anthem.
We are 15 minutes away from kickoff, the stadium has started to fill as the fans continue to make their way through the entry gates. Looks like a good atmosphere tonight in Hyderabad.
With three back to back home fixtures on schedule for Hyderabad FC, Phil Brown wants to use these games to see his side prop up the league table.
He said "It’s the first of three home games (for us). Our home performances haven’t been that bad. The supporters have stayed with us and we rewarded them with some good results. Hopefully the home performances will arrest the situation we are in.”
Owen Coyle has stressed on the importance of consistency in his pre-match press conference and downplayed the importance of Chennaiyin's win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
He said “We have to make sure we are at our best (against Hyderabad). It’s been more than a year since the club has won a game away from home. So, we have to start picking up points (on the road). We had a very good draw against Jamshedpur, where we should have won the game. Second half in the other night at Odisha, we did very well. So, we have to be together. We have good players. “It’s always nice when you’ve already beaten your opponents. With that being said, it was a dramatic match. There were three goals in added time. Hyderabad, I think, do very well at home. It will a tough game."
Line-ups are out
Hyderabad FC:
Kamaljit Singh, Asish Rai, Matthew Kilgallon, Adil Khan, Gurtej Singh, Rohit Kumar, Marko Stankovic, Nestor Gordillo, Nikhil Poojary, Marcelinho, Bobo
Chennaiyin FC: Vishal Kaith, Lucian Goian, Eli Sabia, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Anirudh Thapa, Germanpreet Singh, Edwin Vanspaul, Rafael Crivellaro, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Nerijus Valskis, Andre Schembri
HOME COMFORT: Hyderabad FC have collected all of their five points at home in five matches, with a solitary victory against Kerala Blasters in their first home game of the season.
TROUBLE ON ROAD: Chennaiyin FC have only collected a single point on the road this season. They have drawn one match against Jamshedpur FC and lost the other three against FC Goa, Bengaluru FC and Odisha FC conceding 8 goals and scoring none in those three matches.
Both the defenses in action tonight are pretty much open at the back as they have been leaking plenty of goals this season. Hyderabad FC have conceded 26 goals in 11 matches, the most in the league while Chennaiyin have conceded 18 this season, third most of any team. GOALS EXPECTED TONIGHT!
Two teams at the bottom of the table face off each other at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium. Phil Brown's Hyderabad FC will be hosting Owen Coyle's Chennaiyin FC as the two teams will fight for three points that might put them at a more respectable position in the league table.
