JAP vs SEN Match Result - FIFA WC 2018

T. Inui 34'
K. Honda 78'

Japan came up against a pretty good Senegalese side but played to their strengths and dug out a draw despite going behind twice. In fact, from the chances they created, they'll be a bit disappointed they didn't go on to win it!

A point for both sides means the lose of the Poland Colombia game will go home. It sets up the group of death nicely!

That's it from me, Amit Mishra! Hope you guys liked the coverage! Until next time, see you when I see you!
Peeep peeeeeep peeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! And that's that! What a game we've had again! Pretty entertaining!
90+4' Yellow card for Hasebe for stopping a Senegal counter. A bit haphazard the game now...
90+3' Japan bravely deny Senegal and in the end win a freekick. Just keep the ball and that's a point each for both the sides...
90+2' Usami got lucky there as the ball fell to him off a Senegal defender but he loses it while trying to cut in and shoot. Senegal get it away and win a freekick...
90+1' Booking for Ndoye
4 minutes have been added on...
90' Late freekick to Japan as Usami makes a good run on the left. Sabaly had to commit a technical foul there and gets a booking...
88' Japan nearly make Senegal pay for a lapse in concentration. A quickly taken freekick finds Shibasaki but his final pass let's him down with Okazaki in the box to be picked out...
87' Substitution for Senegal

Niang is OFF
Diouf is ON
87' Japan still on the attack as Senegal try to keep their shape and grind out a draw...
86' Substitution for Japan

Inui is OFF
Usami is ON
84' Ndoye gets a header after a giant leap. Jeez, that was LeBron esque! Just couldn't get any power or direction and Japan get a goalkick...
83' Inui is just offside after being picked up by a smashing ball by Yoshida! Senegal have a few tired legs as they've been doing all the running off the ball here...
82' Japan with all the possession right now as Senegal just want to get rid of it by playing a long ball. The centre-half duo have been immense and again, win an aerial duel against Niang to set Japan on yet another attack...
81' Substitution for Senegal

Badou Ndiaye is OFF
Ndoye is ON
80' Japan are pushing here and the fresher pair of legs has helped. Honda tries to pick out Okazaki but the pass is just a tad overhit! Good stuff this from Japan. Senegal just can't deal with the pressing at the moment...
Senegal never looked settled! And All it took was one cross by Okazaki to wreak havoc in the penalty box. Ndiaye came for it but couldn't collect it and it fell kindly for Inui on the left. His cross was calmly tapped in by Honda! Wow, this is some game!
78' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! Japan equalise! Keisuke Honda!
78' Barring that goal, Senegal haven't done much in the second half, Still all Japan as they are pressing for the leveller...
77' Senegal haven't kept the ball all that well, so don't rule Japan out just yet. Okazaki will offer the pressing up top but Haraguchi's pace will be a big miss.
76' Substitution for Japan

Haraguchi is OFF
Okazaki is ON
75' The cross was fixed in by Honda and Osako's shot came off a Senegal defender's thigh. No VAR for that, fellas...
74' Japan are pressing for the goal but that Senegal strike came totally against the run of play. A corner to Japan now...
73' Substitution for Japan

Kagawa is OFF
Honda is on
My my. Smashed it in! Gave the keeper no chance! A pretty good move in the end! Good little skill by Sabaly on the left and his cross was just about flicked to Wague's path by Niang who'll get the assist for the game...
71' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! Wague scores!
70' Sarr is picked out well from his own half and again shows the pace as Senegal keep it going in the attacking half...
69' AH! Senegal try to play it short again but Japan are pretty vigilant and get it away. Senegal need to show something here. The keeper has been relatively untested in the second half...
68' Yellow card for Inui for taking down Sarr. My god he had to! Sarr looked like he had one thing on his mind, to maraud through the whole Japanese team! Dangerous freekick this, on the left of Japan's penalty box...
66' Not a bad substitution by Senegal. They are being overrun in midfield by a pretty good Japanese team. How are Japan still not ahead?
65' Substitution for Senegal

Alfred Ndiaye is OFF
Kouyate is ON
64' JAPAN HIT THE BAR! HOLY MOLY WHAT A MOVE! Osako this time redeems himself with a delicate little backheel and Inui's near perfect shot hits the bar! My my...
63' AH! Osako again! Another sweeping Japanese counterattacking move and Osako had the space and time to cross it in. He lifts it woefully above the post. Jeez!
62' Sarr is just lightning quick! Haven't seen much of him in the second half but he broke forward there with pace before being tackled well by Yoshida!
61' NO NO NO Osako! A simple tap in! And he totally misses the ball! One hell of a move by the Japanese, the best of the second half, as Shibasaki found space on the right and put in a smashing cross for Osako to finish! HOW DID HE MISS THAT?!?!
60' A very cagey second half when compared to the first as the two teams know what the other is capable of. Draw isn't the worst result for both teams...
59' Yellow card shown to Niang for again leaving a bit on Shoji. Another arm on the face...
58' Haraguchi you warrior! Goes toe to toe with Sabaly who is built like a tank but is too eager and gives a freekick. They've shown plenty of fight, the Japanese...
56' Hasebe was caught by an arm there and he receives treatment on the sideline for a bloodied nose...nasty one that
55' Half a chance for Senegal as Mane's cross looped up but the Japanese defence were wary and got it away. At least they though so before Alfred Ndiaye won the second ball and tried to curl one in. Miss-hit and Kawashima collects it safely...
54' Foul on Mane by Yoshida. Senegal take it quickly, a surprise that. You'd think they'd want to test the Japanese defence with a deadball situation...
53' As the Japanese manager said, they've got to move the ball quickly and that is exactly what they've done in the second half so far. So much more confidence on the ball in midfield. Senegal are pressing nevertheless...
52' Badou Ndiaye with a shot from the edge of the box after being set up by Mane. Should have done better, at least test the keeper! Way over...
51' Another counter attacking chance for the Japanese but they just can't find the final pass. Senegal are playing a dangerously high line here and Japan do have pace up top...
50' Shot on goal by Osako! But a routine save by the keeper. A good move to set Nagatomo who's cross wasn't the worst...
49' Japan now with a spell on the ball. A lot more calmer than the Senegalese as there's a lot more touch of class. I wouldn't necessarily call this a beauty vs the beast contest as the Japanese are equally aggressive...
48' The Japanese do well to get a lot of bodies and win the corner. But jeez, the attempted pass to set Osako on the break is awful and Senegal win the ball back...
47' UFF. Mane with a sweet little nutmeg after a spell of possession for Senegal but no one is there to get at the end of it. The Senegalese are pushing and manage to win a corner as Wague's cross is cleared by Yoshida...
46' Keep ball from Senegal early on in the second half so far...
Peeeeeeeeeep! The second half is underway! Senegal get things rolling, shooting from right to left...
And the teams are out for the second half!
Peeeeeeeep! Half time! That game sort of waxed and waned, but a pretty enjoyable game. The Senegalese started strongly, but the Japanese finished the half well...

Second half in a few, lads and lasses...
45+1' Nothing notable in the one minute of added on, fellas...
One minute has been added on...
45' Brilliant from the Japanese as everyone decided to push up just before a Senegalese freekick was taken. Pretty clever. Wague was found offside as a result...
44' Not the worst corner kick routine by the Senegalese as Niang's cross was nearly flicked into goal by Sane. Didn't work out in the end. Tough piece of skill to pull off with the ball coming at you in such high speeds...
43' Corner to Senegal after Koulibaly's diagonal was controlled well by Sabaly. Hos attempted cross was blocked well by Sakai for a corner...
42' Jeez, Niang just had enough of the blue shirts keeping the ball and pressed the heck out of Shoji who had no answers but to concede the throw in!
41' The Japanese are keeping it well with with a string of passes in midfield..can they find that opening?
40' Shot by Haraguchi! Hits row-z, sadly. Showed good pace on the right and cut in to smash one using his left. Just didn't have the balance while taking the shot...
39' Niang nearly! Good chance to retake the lead! The forward was played through on goal but the Kawashima was very quick off his line to smother the shot and the chance! End to end stuff now!
38' Hasebe shows a bit of class and experience. The wily old midfielder had Sarr breathing down his neck after some neat interplay on the right. A goalkick is awarded as the lads back in office cheer for that defensive work done by the Japan skipper...
36' Japan with their tails up now. Another brilliant switch in play as Haraguchi did well to control it, but just didn't get rid of it in time as he overran. Senegal get it back, but for how long?
Wow, Senegal are undone by one aerial ball and here I was rambling on how Japan need to change it! A fine diagonal pass by Yoshida and quite an exquisite touch by Nagatomo had the Senegal defence in trouble. Inui was there to receive the pass, cut in and place stunning curled shot past the helpless N'Diaye! Game on!
34' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! INUUUUUUUUUUUUUUI! TAKSHI INUUUUUUUUI! 1-1!
32' The Senegalese want a freekick as Sakai leaves a bit on Mane while trying to win the aerial battle. The ref waves play on, clearly not convinced of Mane's theatrics...
31' Again the Japanese give it away in midfield after a few good passes. Senegal are rigid everywhere on the pitch, be it midfield or defence.
30' A spell of possession for the Japanese in midfield but again, the final ball is just overhit by Kagawa. To beat a team of such mobility and aerial prowess, that pass and the run need to be inch perfect. Just isn't happening for the Blue Samurai...
28' So far, the Senegalese will be pretty happy with how they've kept the Japanese under the wraps. Just too dominant in set pieces, and they've cut the threat of Kagawa with some good pressing...
27' N'Diaye is penalised for grabbing Haraguchi's shirt. The corner comes to nothing in the end...
26' And Senegal break to get a corner! Niang on the deadball...
25' Nagatomo and Inui combine well on the left before the former's cross is again easily cleared by Sane. This crossing can be dangerous if they can get a bit more pace on them. So far, the Senegal keeper has had a walk in the park...
24' Keep ball from the Senegalese. The Japanese will have to be smart with their positioning,. They know they aren't going to win that many headers. But they'll have to target the second ball...
22' And Senegal break after Japan try to play it short. Mane released Niang with a beautiful pass on the left but the latter's cutback is cleared by Japan. The Africans win the second ball and Wague's cross is nearly turned in by Sarr! Routine save by Kawashima...
21' A corner for Japan. They'll keep trying...
20' Nothing doing. Senegal get it away with relative ease. The height and the strength they've got, mere headed clearances from their own box are crossing the damn half way line! Mad stuff...
20' Freekick to Japan in a dangerous area. Shibasaki on the ball...
19' The Japanese though they had a break there as a long ball was played into Osako, but jeez, Sane just burst forward to make the best front-footed tackle of the game. The man is a monster. Schalke have landed a gem...I mean a brute.
17' A bit if possession here for the Senegalese as Japan have pushed up a bit. Koulibaly and Sane play in their own half, waiting for someone to fall deeper...
16' A sweeping Japanese move! Smashing little piece of skill by Inui to first cut in and backheel it for Kagawa. The BVB star's cut back to find Hasebe was perfect but the latter's shot is blocked by a pile of Senegal players in the box!
14' Japan just can't deal with the strength and pressing of the Senegal midfield. Kagawa there had the ball in his own half but Ndiaye did the pressing and Wague joined in to win force the Japanese into giving away a throw...
13' A lot of pressure by Senegal here as Niang is now getting a lot more involved. Kawashima this time makes the save. A straight shot.
Not the way Senegal wanted to take the lead, but well, a goal is a goal. Sarr and Wague did well to combine on the right again and the latter's cross was half cleared by Hasebe. The ball fell for Sabaly on the left and his shot was punched into Mane by the keeper Kawashima! Elementary error, that! Senegal lead!
11' GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! A horrendous mix-up from the Japanese defence. Mane claims the goal!
10' Ten minutes have gone, no keeper has been worked yet.The two sides are still settling here with a lot of movement on the wide areas. Nothing central yet...
9' Wague and Sarr combine well on the right but the former's cross is disappointing and easily cleared by Shoji...
8' Freekick to Japan in the Senegal half, Shibasaki on the ball...he launches it deep, but Senegal again get it away so easily! This is going to be a daunting prospect for the Japanese, getting anything out of setpieces or defending them, even...
7' Kagawa nearly with a good cross to find Inui on the right! The Japanese haven't threatened yet as Senegal are doing well to use the wings. This time, Sabaly made the run on the left, breaking from the Japanese move, but the cross is collected well by Kawashima...
6' Bad corner this time as Niang's cross fails to clear the first man at the near post. The ball fell kindly for Sabaly, but his shot was way over the bar. Too ambitious, from about 30 odd yards out...
5' Another corner for Senegal. Japan did well to break with a neat few passes but this Senegal team sure can break as Sarr again makes a run on the right and wins a corner off Kagawa...
4' Niang of all people took the corner but it went straight through everyone and the Japanese get away with it. They try to break, but Kagawa has no one to pick as everyone was in the box, defending the aerial threat of the Africans!
3' First corner of the game for Senegal as Sarr made a good run on the right. Defended well by Nagatomo but at the expense of a corner. Senegal with all their height in the box...
2' Half a chance for the Senegalese as Wague marauds down the right and cross it for Mane. The ball was just beyond him as he couldn't control it well enough...
1' Straight away, Japan try to get forward and launch a long ball that is so easily defended by Koulibaly. He chests it and easily plays a pass forward...
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Kickoff! Japan get us underway in their deep blue kit, shooting from right to left. Senegal are in their white strip! Let's go!
The teams are out and kickoff is moments away!
Folks, Japan have never beaten Senegal. The two teams have faced each other twice, once in 2001 and the other in 2003. Both the times, the Senegalese emerged winners, without conceding a goal! Will that change today?
Japan vs Senegal - Preview

Two sides with the same number of points but boy did Japan have to work hard for their win. The Blue Samurai were the underdogs heading into the game against Colombia but an early red card for the South Americans and a subsequent penalty helped them. Of course, confidence will be high considering they still had to score and beat the Colombians in the second half, but this is going to be a very tough game.

This isn't quite the Senegal team of 2002. They've got quite a few players plying their trade in the top five leagues around Europe and will be a daunting proposition for any side. They've got the pace and quality up top, and their passing is pretty good if not the best in midfield. The defence is strong. STRONG.

Kalidou Koulibaly just had another stellar season with Napoli and Salif Sane's mercurial performances for Hannover have helped him earn a move to Schalke who finished second in the Bundesliga. Not bad, huh?

Against that Senegal defence, Japan will have to rely on the quality of Inui, Haraguchi and Kagawa. While Kagawa can pick a pass, Haraguchi is one player who can set the game on fire with his technical dribbling. A few months ago, he left the likes of Boateng and Hummels flat on their arse, so he has the ability. Inui again has a lot of pace to burn and will be a threat on the left.

This is Amit Mishra, and I’ll be your host for the game! For feedbacks, you can reach me @DerStoic on Twitter or drop an email to amit@sportskeeda.com. Let’s hope for an open game, fellas!

Japan vs Senegal – Team News

Both the teams will be high on confidence after their opening game. The big news for Senegal is they have no injury concerns and are expected to name the same lineup against the Blue Samurai. Niang and Diouf up top will be some proposition for the Japanese to stop and the in-form Sadio Mane on the wide area is an equally daunting prospect.

Japanese manager Akira Nishino revealed before the game that physical approach of Senegal will be hard to stop, but the only way of doing so will be to move the ball fast. Mind you, Senegal themselves have some fast players.

The Japanese might have to take to the pitch without Keisuke Honda who has a bruised thigh. Haraguchi and Inui once again will have to make the best use of their opportunities considering they have pace to burn. Kagawa’s impact in the second half against Colombia was seen as the South Americans dropped back, trying to play for the draw when they were arguably better equipped to play on the front foot.
