This pic, though! WOOF!
Some excellent post-match reading for you guys right here-
This is that second goal - Vineeth's first. WHAT. A. PLAYER. that lad is
That game was marred by some poor refereeing, but the decisions arguably cancelled themselves out - one for Chennai, the other for Kerala. Preposterously poor, though, both of them.
Kerala are upto SECOND now in the league! CK Vineeth has given them a cutting edge that they have so sorely missed in the early stages of the season. Another positive from the match maybe that this is the match that finally convinces Coppell that Chopra shouldn't start - no matter what Steve Derby 'experts' on TV. The moment the Englishman left the field of play, Kerala became 10x more dangerous. This outfit could go a long way into the tournament now.
It didn't help Chennai that their team played into the hands of the Malayalees, sitting deep and inviting trouble - for which they were duly punished. Materazzi's men have a lot of improving to do if they are to have a chance in hell of defending their hard-won title!
All said and done, it was a fantastic match - and it was a pleasure bringing it to you!
Thank you for reading, and for your mails! Anirudh Menon signing out!
Peep! Peep! FULLTIME!
Kerala's adventurous approach in the second half pays dividends as they rampage home 3-1 winners
94' German tries to play in Vineeth for his hat-trick, but SABIA DOES SUPERBLY TO CUT IT OUT!
93' YELLOW for Mulder. Frustration showing there
92' Jayesh Rane has a very decent strike at goal, but what it has in power, it lacks in direction - and Stack saves comfortably.
91' German OFFSIDE!!! Josu tries to play in German, but the Haitian is correctly called offside.
89' Rino breaks up play and then sends the ball harmlessly back. The volume of the crowd is INSANE! Chennai have it all do here, and they have four minutes to do it in.
A perfect counter attack, that. Jhingan stops Dudu in his tracks, and feeds Hossain. The playmaker in turn plays through German who slides a superb ball into an unmarked CK Vineeth. The Malayalee side-foots home with an IMPECCABLE finish.
86' SUBSTITUTION - Riise OFF, Succi ON. Kitchen sink being ripped out by Materazzi here!!
That was horrible from Kerr. Josu swings in a good-looking, but essentially harmless ball into the box. Dwayne Kerr lets the ball run THROUGH his hands and ends up at the feet of who else but Vineeth. He scissor kicks an AWESOME finish in! THIS IS ON NOW!
82' Rino and Kadio have injected some insane energy into this Kerala outfit. German tries a Zidane-turn at the edge of the box (sorry for the Zizou reference, Marco) but Chennai bat it away!
81' Dudu wriggles away from Jhingan, gets a shot a away and it almost deflects off the Kerala defender into the net. It wriggles just wide
80' Chennai are slowing the game down as much as they dare. Zakeer and Mulder exchanging passes as they to play in the strikers.
79' Rino bombs forward again, and puts in a dangerous deep cross to Vineeth, but Riise and Sabia hold firm. The crowd can sense a winner here, and the tempo of the game is increasing. Perfectly set up for Chennai to poach it on the counter, then
78' This is lovely football from Kerala. Mehtab pings a beautiful ball to Anto, who swings in a very nice cross that just eludes German
77' Kerala can smell the kill and are attacking at every opportunity. Mulder has come on to try and steady things for Chennaiyin, but as it stands the game is passing by faster than an out-of-control Ernakulam local bus.
75' Anto, who started the AFC Cup final, is an excellent resource on the right and is a quite a handful bombing forward!
74' SUBSTITUTIONS - Mohammed Rafique OFF, Rino Anto ON; Hans Mulder ON, Jeje OFF
73' Kadio almost plays in German, but a desperate Riise tackle clears the danger.
72' The change since Chopra has gone is palpably obvious. The men in yellow are playing faster, slicker, easier-on-the-eye football. Why cant Coppell see the light of day!
71' Rafique almost plays in German, but the pass has way too much juice on it. Kerr advances promptly to clear.
70' The crowd, so quiet for so large a portion of the game - have found their voice again. Rafique keeps in a hopeless looking ball, and Kerala spring an attack again. Mehtab Hossain gets caught in two minds and pass-shoots the ball back to Kerr. The usually excellent Kolkata man has been very poor today.
69' SUBSTITUTION - Bernad Mendy ON, Baljit Sahni OFF. Looks like Materazzi wants some protection in the middle of the park - especially from the rampant Boris Kadio.
68' Josu undersells Stack with a loose backpass that the Englishman struggles to hack clear!
67' Kerala are throwing themselves forwards now - adrenaline pumping through veins here - and Rafique almoooost finds German with a peach of a cross
Josu plays in a beautiful ball to German. The striker bullies Sabia off the ball - unfairly it appears! PREPOSTEROUS NOT TO GIVE A FOUL! He then drives in to the box, and squares it to Kadio, who has the simple task of tapping in from half a yard.
64' Kadio tries to drive it - attempting to power it into the roof of the net. It flies miles wide.
63' Kadio and Mehtab exchange neat passes down the left before Kadio is clipped by Raphael Augusto. A freekick in a dangerous position here - Kadio, Josu and Hossain are holding a conference over who to take it.
62' Just as i type that, he misplaces a simple ball to Rafique. *Sigh*
61' Kerala have the ball back again, and are trying to work some patterns of their own. They are clawing their way back into this, and Kadio's driving energy is essential to this.
