Kerala Blasters
0 - 1
Mumbai City
82' A. Chermiti
FT| That's it. Amrinder kicks the ball in the and the referee blows his full-time whistle. It has finished Kerala Blasters 0-1 Mumbai City FC here in Kochi as the Islanders pick up their first win in the opening fixture of ISL. Here is your host, Abhishek Kundu saying goodbye. Do follow Sportskeeda to get the latest updates on ISL!
90+5' SAVE! What a save from Amrinder. Easily one of the best saves in the history of ISL.

Sahal goes into the box and finds Ogbeche. The Nigerian takes one touch to control it and with the other blasts his shot. But, Amrinder, from 5 yards out, parries it away for a corner kick. The Punjabi lad collects the resulting corner kick comfortably.
90+4' Sahal dribbles past one player and looks to find Mohammad Rakip on the left flank. But, the pass is wayward and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
90+3' Amine Chermiti is awarded the Hero of the Match for his goal and his splendid work rate.
90+2' Amrinder Singh takes all the time in his world to take the goal-kick and the same is seen from Modou Sougou who falls down on the ground cheaply holding his head as Mumbai City FC look to run down the clock.
90+1' Jessel Carneiro takes it and finds Moustapha Gning. But, he loses his balance and his header goes wide for a Mumbai City FC goal kick.
90' Kerala Blasters get a corner as the referee signals five additional minutes.
88' Mumbai City FC break on the counter again but Modou Sougou is flagged offside as he mistimes his run by a second.
86' Another Mumbai City FC official gets a yellow card.
84' How did Mumbai City FC miss that? That is the worst miss of the season so far.

Gianni Zuiverloon and Jairo Rodrigues end up tackling each other. Bilal Khan comes off his line and misses the ball completely. The Gabonese has an open net to take a shot at from edge of the penalty area. He goes for a low cross but there is no Mumbai City FC player to slot it home. What was he thinking?
82' GOAL! Amine Chermiti gives Mumbai City FC the lead.

Souvik Chakarabarti on the overlap delivers a low cross and the Kerala Blasters defenders miss it completely. No one marks the Tunisian and he buries the ball into the back of the net. It is Kerala Blasters 0-1 Mumbai City FC here in Kochi.
81' And, another wasteful effort. Utterly shambolic from the Tunisian.
80' Mumbai City FC win another free-kick. Larbi prepares to take it. Let's see his delivery this time.
78' Modou Sougou takes a shot from distance around 40 yards out. But, it is no trouble for the Kerala Blasters goalkeeper Bilal Khan as he sees the ball go away for a goal-kick.
77' And, the cheer from the crowd can mean only one thing. Last year's ISL Emerging Player of the Year comes on.

OFF- Prasanth K
ON- Sahal Abdul Samad
76' OFFSIDE! Bartholomew Ogbeche tries to release Raphael Messi but then, Pratik Chowdhury steps forward a yard and forces the Cameroonian in an offside position. Good defending from the former Jamshedpur FC man.
75' Jessel goes on the overlap and tries to go past Shouvik. But, the Mumbai City FC full-back shields the ball brilliantly and sees it out for a goal-kick.
74' Mumbai City FC throw the kitchen-sink as they make their final change with 15 minutes left to play.

OFF- Diego Carlos
ON- Serge Kevyn
73' And, that cross from Prasanth just sums up Kerala Blasters' day. Awful one by the local lad as the ball balloons away for a goal-kick.
70' Twenty minutes left to play but the scoreline is still nil-nil. Will it change?
67' Kerala Blasters make their second change.

OFF-Sergio Cidoncha
ON- Raphael Messi Bouli
66' Larbi goes for the outswinger but the ball goes out of the byline. The assistant has seen it and awards a goal-kick to Kerala Blasters.
65' Ogbeche does his defensive duty to perfection as he heads the ball away for a Mumbai City FC corner-kick!
64' Jairo goes in the book for pulling the shirt of a Mumbai City player. Larbi takes it. What can he do now?
So, a Mumbai City official gets a yellow card now!
62' Cido goes for glory! The ball hits the wall and Kerala Blasters have a corner.
61' Sarthak Golui goes in the book now as he concedes a free-kick in a dangerous position. What can Kerala Blasters produce here?
58' Subhasish flicks on the ball with his head from the free-kick but Bilal Khan collects it safely.
57' And now, Rahul KP concedes a cheap free-kick. He takes down Mohammed Larbi from behind and Mumbai City has another set-piece to take.
56' Nothing comes from the corner as Sergio Cidoncha fail to beat the first man.
55' And, the youngster shows it by winning his side a corner-kick. Rahul KP swings in a cross from the left wing but Mumbai City defenders save the day.
54' The local lad comes on as Halicharan had a pathetic game.

OFF- Halicharan Narzary
ON- Rahul KP
53' MISS! How did Modou Sougou miss that?

Diego Carlos swings in a low cross from the left-wing, Chermiti dummies it, and lays it off for Sougou. But, the Senegalese misses to find the open net. We have seen Sogou bury that countless times last season.
52' Mumbai City FC's Larbi swings in a corner but Bilal takes no chance and punches it away for another corner. Nothing comes from the subsequent flag kick as the ball loops away and the ball nests on the top of the net.
48' Nothing comes out from the free-kick but Mumbai City FC still have the ball in the final third. The run ends with Modou Sogou flagged offside. A stat for the nerds. He was offside a whopping 45 times last season.
47' Subhasish wins a foul for Mumbai City FC as Zuiverloon puts his leg on his ribs.
46' PEEP! We are underway again at Kochi.
HT| There is the half-time whistle and Mumbai City FC would be the most relieved team. They were lucky not to concede from set-pieces in the dying embers of the first half as Kerala Blasters looked extremely dangerous. Jorge Costa needs to give a good pep talk to raise their morale.
45' 2 Minutes added on!
45' Moustapha Gning goes into the book for handling the ball.
45' MISS! Jessel Carneiro takes a good corner-kick. Jairo heads it the first time, trying to find Gning on the far post. But, the Senegalese hands it.
44' SHOT! Jairo heads it down from a Sergio-Cidoncha free-kick but then Amrinder saves Mumbai City FC's day and parries the ball for a corner-kick.
43' Kerala Blasters have another free-kick from a dangerous situation as Pratik pulls a soft foul on Ogbeche.
41' An early double change for Mumbai City FC as Paulo Machado and Mato Grgic go out owing to injuries. Mumbai City FC playing with an all-Indian backline now.

OFF- Mato Grgic, Paulo Machado
ON- Modou Sougou, Pratik Chowdhury
40' And, we have the first yellow card of the game finally. Mato Grgic goes in the book for a high foot on Halicharan Narzary. Narzary is on the stretcher and is down.
39' Machado takes a shot but misses it completely in his first attempt. Luckily for him, the ball falls on his feet itself and the Portuguese takes a second attempt only to see it sail wide.
38' Machado gets clipped here by Prasanth but the referee keeps the card in his pocket! The refereeing is pathetic in this game.
36' Nothing comes from the corner-kick either. Mohammad Larbi takes it and the Tunisian fails to beat the first man itself.
35' CHANCE! Diego Carlos swings in a good cross from just outside the box for Mumbai City FC on the counter. But, then Zuiverloon stands tall and flicks the ball with his head for a corner.
34' Nothing! Nothing happening here. The defenders are standing tall in each of the occasions.
32' The Mumbai City defense is extremely compact. They are not giving the Blasters any breathing space. We get a glimpse of it here in the right wing as Raynier Fernandes and Subashish sweep the ball from the feet of Kerala Blasters' player.
31' A cross comes in from Mohammed Rakip but Shouvik Chakrabarti safely gives it to the legs of Amrinder who clears the line as Ogbeche was lurking at him.
30' Kerala Blasters sigh a breather. Bilal Khan spills the ball with no one closing him. But, thankfully for him, Mohammed Larbi fails to get at the end of it.
29' Moustapha Gning heads it away for a corner. Jairo clears the danger this time.
28' Mohammed Rakip commits a cheap foul after being nutmegged and Machado is gearing up to take a free-kick from near the corner flag.
26' FOUL! A nasty foul by Rowllin on Gning. The Mumbai City FC defensive midfielder gets his knee on his ribs and is lucky not to be booked.
25' Now, we have Kerala Blasters taking a free-kick at the opposite end! Sergio Cidoncha swings in a dangerous cross with his right foot and Ogbeche dives to get his head to it. However, it lacks direction and Amrinder sees it go away for a goal-kick comfortably.
23' OFFSIDE! Machado pulls up his short and delivers a cross from a free-kick. Shambolic marking from the Kerala Blasters defenders as their front three got a leeway. Chermiti even gets his head to it but it is inches away from goal. The assistant raises his flag, nonetheless.
21' The early stat favours Kerala Blasters actually. They have made around 111 number of passes as compared to Mumbai City FC's 93. The possession battle is also in their favour at 53-47. But, all these stats don't matter as long as the scoreline remains the same.
20' Larbi whips in a corner to the far post. But, Kerala Blasters defenders scramble the ball away to safety.
19' CORNER! That is a top-notch save from Bilal Khan. Diego Carlos takes a shot from just outside the edge of the box looking for the near post but the Kerala Blasters goalkeeper make a routine save.
17' OFFSIDE! This time Machado tries to release Diego Carlos on the counter. Replays suggest it was marginal but the ball goes out of play nonetheless. Mumbai City FC is giving a glimpse of what they can do in the counter to Kerala fans.
16' Kerala Blasters are missing the cutting edge in the final third. It looks as if there is very less understanding between the players. Rakip asks too much from Ogbeche here and we have a Mumbai City FC goal-kick.
14' What was that from Narzary? Eelco is frustrated and he has every right to be. After a flurry of five-six passes from the back, the ball goes towards his feet. The Assamese swings a cross from 40 yards out with no one in the box, not even the Mumbai City FC defenders and Amrinder can see that type of delivery sail across him all day long.
10' And, Mumbai City FC miss a golden opportunity to take the lead!

A diagonal from the left back Subhasish finds Diego Carlos on the right wing. He goes past one and makes a yard for himself to deliver a looping ball inside. Mohammed Larbi gets at the end of it but the Tunisian's header is inches wide.
9' CHANCE! Ogbeche goes past Rowllin but the Indian international comes from the wrong side to help Grgic in sweeping the ball away from him. Ogbeche goes down nonetheless, hoping for a free-kick just from outside of the box but the referee blows the whistle in the opposite end for diving.
8' Kerala Blasters again trying to play from the back but fail successively. This time the guilty party is Halicharan Narzary, who fails to keep the ball going away from the sideline.
7' OFFSIDE! Chermiti tries to ghost past his marker but the assistant raises the flag. The Tunisian is proving to be a menace for Kerala Blasters early in the game.
4' PENALTY DENIED? That is a carbon copy of a foul on Michael Soosairaj which the referee missed completely. This time the guilty party is Gianni Zuiverloon and the one who falls down is Amine Chermiti.
3' FOUL! Halicharan fouls Mumbai City FC's Chermiti in the edge of halfway line. Nothing comes out from the eventual free-kick.
1' CHANCE! Prasanth delivers a low cross but no one makes a run for it and the ball lands safely in the hands of Mumbai City FC's Amrinder.
1' PEEP! We are underway here at Kochi!
Hands shaken and playing XI exchanged! On the other side of the break is kick-off!
Next up is the National Anthem!
The teams are out. Bartholomew Ogbeche leading the line for Kerala Blasters whereas Amrinder Singh doing the same for Mumbai City FC.
Well, we have replays from their last match against ATK and it is clearly evident, Kerala Blasters are not comfortable playing from the back. Will the foreign trio of Chermiti, Larbi, and Diego Carlos punish them?
Well, we have a stat that will lower the confidence of away fans. Mumbai City FC has never won at Kochi. They have drawn four times and lost once. Will Jorge Costa break the deadlock this season?
We are less than 15 minutes for kick-off and the atmosphere in Kochi is palpable! Will Mumbai City FC succumb to the pressure? We have to find out.
Kerala Blasters need to be wary of Mumbai City FC's threat in the counter-attack. Last season, they reached the playoffs simply on the brisk pace of Modou Sougou, Arnold Issoko, and Rafael Bastos. While none will start the ISL game today, Kerala Blasters cannot overlook the danger. In their game against ATK, they were countered by them 14 times. Luckily, no goal came. But, Mumbai City FC will punish them.
And, we have starting line-ups of both the teams. The surprise is Modou Sougou is on the bench for Mumbai City FC!

Mumbai City FC (4-3-3): Amrinder Singh (GK,c) Subhasish Bose, Sarthak Golui, Mato Grgic, Souvik Chakrabarti, Paulo Machado, Rowllin Borges, Raynier Fernandes, Diego Carlos, Amine Chermiti, Mohammed Larbi

Kerala Blasters (4-2-3-1): Bilal Khan (GK), Mohammad Rakip, Jairo Rodrigues, Gianni Zuiverloon, Jessel Carneiro, Moustapha Gning, Jeakson Singh, Halicharan Narzary, Prasanth K, Sergio Cidoncha, Bartholomew Ogbeche (c)
After picking up an impressive win in their opening fixture, Kerala Blasters would love to enjoy a similar fate against Mumbai City FC today in their ISL 2019-20 match at their Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Despite getting lucky on a couple of occasions against ATK in the first half, Kerala Blasters came out stronger to inflict a 2-1 defeat on them.

A successful season for Kerala Blasters is always backed by a good home run. They reached the playoffs in 2014 and 2016 and in each season, the team only lost once.

The plus point for Mumbai City FC is that they haven't played a game before. So, while their head coach Jorge Costa will know the tactics and formations of Kerala Blasters very well, the same can't be said about his counterpart Kerala Blasters.

The key players for Mumbai City FC will be Paulo Machado and Modou Sougou, who played a pivotal part in their road to playoffs last season and have been retained. Raynier Fernandes and Rowllin Borges will be their mainstays in the midfield.

New signings Amine Chermiti and Serge Kevyn can be dark-horses for Mumbai City FC as very few know much about them but both have played at the highest level for their nation. Kerala Blasters, on the other hand, will rely on the defensive understanding between Jairo Rodrigues and Gianni Zuiverloon in the back in the absence of their stalwart Sandesh Jhingan.

Bartholomew Ogbeche will be tasked to score goals for the Blasters whereas defensive midfielder Mario Arques will miss the game once again.

Can Kerala Blasters add one more victory to their scalp and start a winning run? Or will Mumbai City FC deliver a shocker and go with full three points in their first ISL 2019-20 fixture? Do follow Sportskeeda with Abhishek Kundu to know the answer.
